Never say never, people. Never say never, because before you know it, it will backfire and your new self will be slapping the old one on the face!
Just a couple of weeks ago, I answered a question on a blog: what would you not purchase high-end? My answer was mascara. It’s something that you are supposed to throw away after three months, plus I had never been amazed by a non-drugstore mascara, so what was the point?
And then I received a baby tube of Diorshow New Look Mascara as a gift with purchase. I was skeptical, but since it was in my hands why not give it a try?
I did.
It was LOVE.
The brush of this mascara is tiny. I have seen the full-size version, and it looks even smaller on a regular wand. The brush is made of rubber, and it is flexible. There are tiny little spikes on the brush. From what I can see on the Sephora website, this is supposed to be a volumizing mascara. Curiously enough, it is also suggested to be layered over the Diorshow Maximizer or any other Diorshow mascara. Since I don’t own any of those, I put it to test by itself.
What I love about this mascara:
+ It lengthens, perhaps not as well as a lengthening mascara, but I actually prefer one that has a balance of the length and volume it adds.
+ It volumizes. Hello thick and fluttery lashes!
+ It doesn’t clump easily. The little brush makes it easy to comb everything out.
+ It holds curls despite the fact that it is not waterproof! I do have to use my lash curler beforehand to curl my lashes, but my curls troop on with this baby!
+ My lashes stay fluttery and soft, not crunchy, stiff, or brittle.
+ It is removed very easily with Bioderma, or any other eye makeup remover of your choice.
What I don’t like so much about this mascara:
- At the end of the day, it does smudge a tiny little on my lower outer corner. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, and I can wipe it off very easily, but I have to be honest about this!
Now behold the magic of Diorshow New Look! From left to right: bare (curled) lashes, one coat on the upper lashes, two coats on the upper lashes and one on the bottom. You can right click to open the link in new tab to see it in all its grandeur.
IMPRESSIVE, no?
Bottom line: Despite the fact that the price tag will probably make me weep, when I go through all the other mascara that I still have to test out, I will seriously consider purchasing a tube of Diorshow New Look. I love the length, volume, curls, and soft fluttery lashes I get with this. Bravo Dior!
PS: Again, as I always tell my readers, even if I am a fan of something, try to get a sample of this before you splurge on it. Especially with mascara, the performance can vary a lot from person to person!
Another gift with purchase I got is a baby bottle of Dior Vernis in 943 Rouge Garçonne (literally means boyish red, though I have no idea what’s boyish about it). Here is a picture of it in comparison with the full-size bottle of Incognito. Cute eh?
Now let’s take a closer look at the color:
It is a very classic blackened cherry red. However, as what is typical about Dior Vernis, there’s always something that sets it apart from other nail polishes. If I look closely at my nail under the light, I see some tiny gold shimmer. You wouldn’t see it from the normal viewing distance, but I think it makes the polish a bit more special. Also, the color is very clean and pure. Even though it has a cream finish, there is nothing “murky” or “heavy” about this color, or any other Dior Vernis I have tried.
Since it is a GWP, it doesn’t come with the regular tapered Dior Vernis brush (so sad! That’s my favorite part about Dior Vernis). But hey, let’s not look at the gift horse in the mouth! The consistency is a bit thick and gloopy. Again, since it’s a GWP, I can’t vounch for the regular formula of this color. With two coats however, I did achieve nice opacity.
It’s an all-time classic color that I associate more with cooler weather, but since we’re really not having a good spring here in Belgium, I could totally get away with it!
Have you tried any Dior mascara? Do you splurge on high-end or luxury mascara? Would you consider doing it if you find one that you really like?
