I’ll admit upfront: I’m not big on gloss. It wasn’t until recently that I started wearing anything on my lips at all, and I prefer hybrid lipsticks that come with a shine but without the gooey, sticky, and tacky mess a gloss can be.
That was before I realized Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss cannot in any sense be associated with the words gooey, sticky, or tacky!
Today I’m showing you Gold Sunrise (224) and Pink Bikini (664) from the Dior Summer Mix Collection, which I have really been loving!
The packaging of the Ultra-Glosses is rather bulky, but I think the shape and weight in my hands make it feel luxurious. I’ve never really bought into the claim of “plumping” lip products, but I was very surprised to find out the Ultra-Glosses do deliver the “volume plumping brilliance” they promise on the packaging!
They have a very faint vanilla scent, but once applied it disappears fast. I’m a big fan of the nimble brush applicator. I have JUST ENOUGH gloss when I take the applicator out, so there is no frantic re-dipping with it! They also go on very smooth and don’t sink into lines at all. As I said in the beginning, there is nothing sticky or tacky about these. They feel like butter on and keep my lips moisturized. Bravo Dior!
Gold Sunrise (224) is a cool lemony gold with yellow, pink, and silver shimmer. The coverage of this gloss is very sheer. As you will be able to see in the picture at the bottom, it makes my lips a tiny bit less pigmented, but the shimmer is absolutely stunning (that’s why it comes in the finish Flash!). The shimmer doesn’t really travel around, but if you spend the whole day wearing it you might find some around your lips. I think this one is great for layering if you want to add some sparkle to your lipsticks, or if you just want to get some glam on without changing your natural lip color too much.
Unless I rub my lips like mad together, I can’t feel the shimmer (but why would you do that? It hurts!). Mostly I just feel how soft and cushion-y it feels. As for plumping? You’ll get it all right, especially with all the shimmer!
Pink Bikini (664) is a watermelon pink with no shimmer (it comes in the finish Glow). When I first saw it I wasn’t sure if the color would show on my pigmented lips, but it does! As you can see in the picture above, with the amount I get on the brush in one go I get decent medium coverage with Pink Bikini.
Oh, and if you remember Dior Vernis Gloss in Cosmo from here, Pink Bikini is very similar in color. In the picture above you can see Cosmo on my fingertips, so you can compare!
The texture of Pink Bikini is just as smooth, buttery, and non-sticky. It does also make my lips look noticeably plumper. I’ve been testing it out vigorously to make sure it’s not a figment of my imagination, and I can tell you confidently it really isn’t!
Here comes the swatches in normal lighting and under the sun, so you can see the shimmer in Gold Sunrise better:
I get around two hours with these, but I’ve read reviews that claim 4 or more. I don’t know if it’s because the two colors I have happen to be sheer to medium in coverage, and if you get a more opaque one you also get more wear time, but it’s my best hypothesis. For non-sticky sheer-to-medium glosses though, frankly I wouldn’t expect any better. The user-friendly applicator and excellent texture make up for the regular wear time in my book.
Here you can see me wearing Gold Sunrise:
Bottom line: The excellent applicator and formula are what make these stand out for me. If you are looking for non-sticky, hydrating glosses that are comfortable to wear, easy to apply, and plumping, I would highly recommend you check the Dior Addict Ultra-Glosses out!
Two other glosses that came out in this collection are Orange Pareo and Rouge Croisiere.
I know it’s horrible, but I want to check them out too!
Have you tried any Dior Addict Ultra-Glosses? What do you look for in a gloss? Have you tried other glosses that claim to be plumping? Did they work?
