It’s only mid-July, but I already have the first autumn collection to show you! Inspired by the turquoise against shades of rose, plum, and bronze in the Southwest (think Arizona, Nevada, and Texas), Bobbi Brown is bringing us the Desert Twilight collection!
This collection is available in Belgium as of today, and I have the luck to play with two pieces beforehand so I can share my thoughts with you!
You might have spotted the Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Glosses in the blogosphere, and the general positive feedback has made me very curious. The Desert Twilight collection comes with two new shades, Bronzed Heather and Firefly.
Bronzed Heather is described as a “pink nude with gold flecks.” Usually whatever is described as “nude” or “bronzed” does not work on my lips, and to be honest the first time I tried it on I was shocked! It is so sparkling that it almost looked frosty on me!
Never one to be discouraged so easily, I walked back to the mirror 5 minutes later. To my utter relief, the “frosty” look disappeared, and I was left with a beautifully sparkling nude lip instead!
(See all that crazy shimmer?)
Bronzed Heather is a bronzy pink with a lot of shimmer and high shine. The applicator is a standard sponge doe-foot one that I find easy enough to use. It has a sweetish mint scent that I find pleasant. The formula is of medium thickness (not buttery or runny, but not sticky and heavy either) and medium opacity. It is not sticky, and even as the gloss dries it just gets a tiny bit tacky. The shimmer doesn’t travel that much at all for a lip gloss that is so shimmery! If I talk or eat/drink, I might end up with two flecks around my lips, but nothing that I’ll see halfway up my cheeks later (it has happened before). The wear time is impressive for something so comfortable to wear: we’re talking about at least 4 hours here! It will tolerate some drinking and light snacking as well.
I like how Bronzed Heather does not give me concealer lips, yet it is opaque enough to make a visible difference to my naturally pigmented lips. It is comfortable to wear, very shiny and sparkling, and doesn’t dry my lips out. Despite the fact that it is coming out with the autumn collection, this is a shade I will start wearing from now on!
Twilight Shimmer is a blackened plum with beautiful multi-chrome shimmer that you will only see at certain angles under the light. The base color itself is indeed something that is very appropriate for autumn, but all the shimmer is what makes this polish interesting for me!
I find the formula and brush easy enough to work with. This is actually opaque/smooth enough to get away with one coat, but to achieve maximum evenness and opacity I did two.
I think this shade is very “Bobbi Brown.” It might seem uninspiring and commonplace at the first glance, but once it’s on your fingertips you might start appreciating the depth of it!
Here is my best shot at capturing the shimmer:
It wears well on me (my nails have finally stopped peeling so much so I can test nail polishes out for wear again); around 4 days with minimum chipping and tip wear. It might not sound impressive, but this is the BEST nail polishes can last on me!
Bottom line: If you are big on nude lips but want something extra sparkling, you should definitely look into Bronzed Heather! For a nail polish that is vampy enough for fall but not a boring creme finish, Twilight Shimmer might fit the bill! This collection also comes with a blue Long-Wear Cream Shadow (Blue Moon), a turquoise nail polish (Turquoise), and two Cream Color for Lips and Cheeks (Honeyed Tea and Pink Truffle) among other interesting pieces that will take you from summer to fall!
Are you a fan of nude lips? How about shimmery glosses? Is there anything from this collection you might want to take a look at?
