Bobbi Brown Secret to Perfect Skin Workshop & 2012 Holiday Collection Preview

Hey everyone! A little while back I got the opportunity to follow the Bobbi Brown Secret to Perfect Skin workshop taught by their international makeup artist, Eliano Bou Assi. Besides some new tricks I learnt to achieve flawless skin (the after picture you see above says quite a bit, considering I was actually breaking out a little), I also got to see some pieces of the holiday collection as well as the Creamy Matte Lip Colors! (Have I told you I really love the Bobbi Brown brushes I own? On top of the quality, I like the fact that all the brushes are labeled clearly. Even if you know very little about makeup you won’t feel lost)

Skincare is definitely the biggest secret to perfect skin. Besides having a clean face to begin with, proper moisturization is key to having your foundation properly blended in. Start tapping in that serum and moisturizer, girls (yes, tapping in. Don’t just smearing the product around and calling it a day. If you use a tapping motion, the product sinks in more easily and can fulfill their potential better)! Bobbi Brown says that concealer is the secret to the universe, and I have to say she doesn’t exaggerate! We tried the corrector (light peach is my shade) and concealer duo (natural) before the foundation to cover up our dark circles. It might seem like a lot of work, but it’s really worth it!

Once all that prep work is done, we’re ready to move onto foundation! I think it might be common knowledge to a lot of you, but foundation is really something you have to try on your face to see how it blends in. I’m a warm natural in Bobbi Brown, and I applied the Foundation Stick with a traditional foundation brush. There is no need to use the same amount all over your face, as some parts don’t need that much coverage. Some bronzer and blush later, I was all set (Bobbi Brown would also suggest some mascara, but I went with eye makeup and didn’t have anything on my upper lids removed)! Eliano Bou Assi did some final adjustment of thickening the inner part of my eyeliner with their famous Black Ink (for some reason I had been keeping the inner half of my eyeliner thin, but I could definitely see a difference after he thickened it and have been doing it that way) and choosing Razzberry Creamy Matte Lip Color for me. My initial impression of the formula is fantastic! It was comfortable on and lasted well. I can’t wait for the line to come out so I can get a shade or two to play with! This is part of the Creamy Matte Lip Color range.

For the holiday collection, I can already tell you there is stuff you can really look forward to. Here you’re seeing the Black Pearl Eye Shadow Palette (the cool-toned version of the eyeshadow palette) and the Uber Nude Lip & Eye Palette.

The Bellini Lip & Eye Palette

Have you read any Bobbi Brown books or attended any of the workshops? Many of these workshops are free, so it’s worth looking into them! I am a believer of her philosophy, and I like the message of empowerment this brand promotes! PS: Keep an eye out on the review of the Rich Caviar Eye Shadow Palette that you will see here soon (the warm-toned version of the holiday palettes)! I had a REAL moment swatching it! PPS: Look at this cute little guy! He’s the Lonely Makeup Bag, and he’s been touring Belgium looking for friends since late August. Follow his journey here!

Oh wow, it’s like you have little stars in your eyes in the first picture, lol! I really enjoyed the work shop and I love the whole idea about having good skin even more!

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

LOL I so want that makeup bag! Too cute!

  • Rainy Days & Lattes

I love Bobbi Brown! It’s my favorite makeup brand… her concealers are amazing! :) I love her philosophy and her sophisticated makeup palettes 😀

  • Joyce (bronzerbunny)

Haha the lonely makeup bag is adorable. I got a Bobbi brown book as a teen and always loved reading her books. My current fave is the makeup manual from a few years ago. :) never attended any workshops though – not sure that we have them as often as you do?

  • Dovey

I love Bobbi! I have two of her makeup books + a bunch of random products and brushes. I used to be a holiday palette junkie when I was building my collection, but now I like to focus on the singles more. The creamy matte color sounds interesting, though counterintuitive. How can a creamy color be matte? I’ve tried her creamy colors and they seem quite emollient and shiny…

The lonely makeup bag is too cute, though it does make me feel quite sorry for it! Poor bag :/

  • ValleyDoll

The lonely make up bag is so cute ! I love BB correctors and concealers. It’s been such a long time since I bought a new one. !

  • claire

awww, that lonely makeup bag makes me kinda sad, he really looks lonely. I love the picture of you! so fresh and full of life 😀 I only like their gel liner, any other product just hadn’t worked out for me but they do have some nice colours and I am willing to try some more products in future (I really like the look of their glosses).

  • marijke

That make up bag is so cute!

  • BeautyReflections (@BeautyReflectTS)

HAHA that makeup bag at the end made me laugh! Sounds like a great time-I’ve never gone to something like this! You sure learn a lot!

    • Sunny

Hey Tracy, you should see if the Bobbi Brown shops near you offer workshops like this. It’s a good way to experiment with their products and learn a trick or two!

  • Sunny

Thanks so much Claire! Bobbi Brown glosses are great! You should also take a look at their blushes. I tried one that day and it’s totally on my wish list!

  • Sunny

I am a believer of her philosophy as well! I like the message of empowerment :)

  • Sunny

Yeah it feels a bit like adopting a puppy from the shelter LOL

  • Sunny

Thanks Teri! Good skin instantly makes a big difference eh :)

  • My Lucite Dreams

You look gorgeous! Love Bobbi brown, her skin care smells so good! I really want to try her BB cream. Cute little sad makeup bag :-(

    • Sunny

Thanks Taylor! I’m curious about the BB cream too, but it’s not here yet. The makeup bag looks like a sad puppy!

  • The Procrastinator

I’ve been lemming one of those Bobbi Brown foundation palettes since I was 15. I can’t wait to check out the holiday palettes in person!

    • Sunny

LOL I was a foundation hater at the age of 15, and still now I’m plain lazy. I prefer to find a shade that works rather than having all these mixing options available. I’m going to blog about the palette I have soon, but trust me you’ll want to see it in person!

  • Kristi C. (@lov2read68)

Bobbi Brown was my first ‘grown up’ makeup years ago! Even though I’ve found other brands that I really like, I’m still a BB girl at heart! I’ve read several of her books. Her focus on a polished look & enhancing your own beauty not doing a cookie cutter look like everyone else was part of what drew me in in the first place!

    • Sunny

I totally understand, Kristi! Bobbi is the queen of neutrals, and I like her philosophy!

  • Sunny

I know! It’s such a sad little thing!

  • Sunny

LOL Goooo Eva! I’ve been following The Lonely Makeup bag on the Facebook page. It’s nice to see where it’s been!

  • Sunny

Hey Dovey, the Creamy Matte has some kind of creamy sheen, but no shimmer or obvious shine. You should check the line out because I really like the texture!

The bag is so sad and cute that everybody should adopt one :)

  • Sunny

I have read most of her books as well! From what I know Bobbi Brown stores offer them and you can just make an appointment, at least that’s how it works here :)

  • Joyce (bronzerbunny)

Oh cool. I’ll have to look into it and see what they do here!
