I’ve Got Coral Where You Didn’t think I Would… On My Lids with Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Couleurs!

It’s no secret that I am very partial to coral. For someone with a warm undertone, it’s just so an easy color to wear. This time however, I have outdone myself with Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Coleurs by wearing coral on my lids! Coral/reddish-brown eyeshadows are challenging for me, as I believe they are for many, to wear. Therefore, besides showing you the swatch, review, and the look, I’m sharing the tricks I figured out with you!

Guerlain Ecrin 4 Coleurs comes with a black velvet pouch that is standard with luxury makeup. I adore the hefty white gold packaging with Guerlain etched on it, though it does hold fingerprints. The magnetic closure and generously-sized mirror are a nice touch too.

Les Fauves come with (from right to left, top to bottom) a metallic coppery champagne with reddish undertone, a medium brown with strong orange/red undertone and a bit of a sheen, a coral that is mostly matte (I see a tiny amount of sparse shimmer in there), and a shimmery dark brown with a copper sheen and red undertone. The color payoff is excellent with all four of them, though the coral shade is a bit drier and powdery. I have, however, not experienced fallout with it. Just remember to flick the excess off before you apply! They all blend extremely easily and there’s no fallout whatsoever, so that’s a big plus!

Now here are some of the things I figured out with this quad:

1. The coral shade is very pigmented, so if you use it directly on your lids, it might pack more ka-pow than you’d like. Therefore, I prefer to use the coppery champagne all over my lids as base before incorporating the coral. You can most definitely use it as a blush as well.

2. Eyeliner is important for a look like this. Besides lining my upper waterline/lash line thickly with a gel liner, I also use whatever is left on the brush and line my lower lash line with it. I also prefer to go over the line with a near-black shade instead of the darkest brown in this quad (as it also has a red undertone and could really make my eyes too red).

3. More eyelashes are always nice, but probably particularly important here. It helps you balance all that red out!

For the FOTD, I first swiped on the coppery champagne as a wash all over my lids. I then proceeded to popping the coral on the center of my lids, and the darkest brown for the outer third/into the crease. I used the medium brown in my inner corners more or less just for the sake of incorporating all the shades. You can definitely make it less dramatic by using a more neutral one! I lined my upper and lower lash line with a black gel liner, and went over the lower lash line with a near-black eyeshadow.

I wanted to coral all the way with Chanel Enjouée Rouge Allure here (swatch/review coming soon), but it might be a bit of an overkill. Later I tried my recent “my lips but better” go-to, Chanel Troublant, and the look made more sense. In any case, I personally need a pinch of color on my lips to balance such strong eyes out.

Granted these are not colors that I would normally reach out for, I think they’ll look good with paler winter skin!

Bottom line: Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Coleurs is a quad that packs 4 quality shades. They might not be a breeze to pull off for everyone, but I believe they can work so if you’re intrigued you should go for it!
