I’ve Got Coral Where You Didn’t think I Would… On My Lids with Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Couleurs!

It’s no secret that I am very partial to coral. For someone with a warm undertone, it’s just so an easy color to wear. This time however, I have outdone myself with Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Coleurs by wearing coral on my lids! Coral/reddish-brown eyeshadows are challenging for me, as I believe they are for many, to wear. Therefore, besides showing you the swatch, review, and the look, I’m sharing the tricks I figured out with you!

Guerlain Ecrin 4 Coleurs comes with a black velvet pouch that is standard with luxury makeup. I adore the hefty white gold packaging with Guerlain etched on it, though it does hold fingerprints. The magnetic closure and generously-sized mirror are a nice touch too.

Les Fauves come with (from right to left, top to bottom) a metallic coppery champagne with reddish undertone, a medium brown with strong orange/red undertone and a bit of a sheen, a coral that is mostly matte (I see a tiny amount of sparse shimmer in there), and a shimmery dark brown with a copper sheen and red undertone. The color payoff is excellent with all four of them, though the coral shade is a bit drier and powdery. I have, however, not experienced fallout with it. Just remember to flick the excess off before you apply! They all blend extremely easily and there’s no fallout whatsoever, so that’s a big plus!

Now here are some of the things I figured out with this quad:

1. The coral shade is very pigmented, so if you use it directly on your lids, it might pack more ka-pow than you’d like. Therefore, I prefer to use the coppery champagne all over my lids as base before incorporating the coral. You can most definitely use it as a blush as well.

2. Eyeliner is important for a look like this. Besides lining my upper waterline/lash line thickly with a gel liner, I also use whatever is left on the brush and line my lower lash line with it. I also prefer to go over the line with a near-black shade instead of the darkest brown in this quad (as it also has a red undertone and could really make my eyes too red).

3. More eyelashes are always nice, but probably particularly important here. It helps you balance all that red out!

For the FOTD, I first swiped on the coppery champagne as a wash all over my lids. I then proceeded to popping the coral on the center of my lids, and the darkest brown for the outer third/into the crease. I used the medium brown in my inner corners more or less just for the sake of incorporating all the shades. You can definitely make it less dramatic by using a more neutral one! I lined my upper and lower lash line with a black gel liner, and went over the lower lash line with a near-black eyeshadow.

I wanted to coral all the way with Chanel Enjouée Rouge Allure here (swatch/review coming soon), but it might be a bit of an overkill. Later I tried my recent “my lips but better” go-to, Chanel Troublant, and the look made more sense. In any case, I personally need a pinch of color on my lips to balance such strong eyes out.

I went out for a coffee with some girlfriends that day, and here are the pictures my bestie took of me in the cafe:

Granted these are not colors that I would normally reach out for, I think they’ll look good with paler winter skin!

Bottom line: Guerlain Les Fauves Ecrin 4 Coleurs is a quad that packs 4 quality shades. They might not be a breeze to pull off for everyone, but I believe they can work so if you’re intrigued you should go for it!

Have you seen Guerlain Les Fauves? Have you tried any coral/reddish brown eyeshadows? If so, what are your trips of making them work?

Wow, the pigmentation does look amazingly good! It looks like a tricky palette to me, but I do think this would look great on certain skintones. You really made it work with the liner tho!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks Teri! It takes some careful calculation, but it can work!

LOVE it! You look gorgeous Sunny! I bought this for my daughter for her birthday-I might have to steal-I mean borrow it haha! :)

Thank you so much Tracy! I can actually really see it working BEAUTIFULLY on your skin tone. Please consider doing a look!

Ahh, Sunny, I love your Guerlain posts 😀 I love Guerlain! 😀 The e/s palette looks pretty on you, the colours are warm but I like them on me as well, the combo is not boring at all (what I thought in first place). I love the pic with your coffee (just drinking coffee myself, haha).

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks Claire! The combination is SO not boring! I don’t think we see a lot of coral eyeshadows around (but perhaps I never paid proper attention). I NEED a coffee in the morning, but usually if I take another one I limit it to one :)

Actually I have never seen coral eyeshadows before, ot looks very nice on you!love lipcolour too, or is it your naturel color?

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thank you Yak Man! In the last picture it’s pretty much my natural lip color, since the coffee (and carrot cake *cough*) finished my lipstick off!

This is one “scary” looking palette in the pan that I wouldn’t dare to wear. But you pulled it off really well, now I’m getting intrigued. BTW, the shirt or was it a dress matches the coral lids nicely ^^

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Haha thank you so much! I have yet another Lavand dress on here. It’s from a couple of years back but still one of my favorites :)

I don’t know how I feel about coral eyeshadows… The colour looks great on you but I really would find it difficult to combine coral with my skintone.

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

I think coral is a bit of a challenging color to wear on MOST skin tones. Perhaps if you have a coral blush you can try to play with that and see how it works?

  • http://mybeautyhoard.blogspot.com/ mjacqueline

Sunny, it looks so good on you!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks so much Jacqueline! Took me a couple of trials to make it work!

You look fabulous, Sunny! I love the shot with you and your mug, hahaha! These colors are too warm for me, but they do seem really wearable on the right complexion!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks so much Larie! I think this is indeed a bit of a picky quad!

Cute photos! And good job making it work! Those colors would make me look tired or like I was crying! Lol.

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks Joyce! You just need enough black to balance the red out, seriously!

  • http://www.nymphette.be marijke

    Pretty pictures!!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks so much Marijke! It’s not every day that I get to go sit in a cafe with friends though. What a pity!

glad to hear that there’s no fall outs! It’s pretty difficult to find eyeshadow that has no or very less fall out :) Although you rarely wear coral on your eyes, I guess coral suits you very well!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks girly! I was definitely pleasantly surprised by the lack of fallout, particularly with the coral shade since it swatches a bit powdery.

The other day I’ve used the coral/orange colour as a blush..and surprisingly it was nice!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

That’s what I thought too! When I swatched it I wished it were a blush LOL

  • http://mybeautysample.com/ Becca @ The Beauty Sample

I seriously love this palette–I think it was one of the most well-executed, most unique, prettiest palettes thats come out recently. It’s just so beautiful! Oh, and love those cute shots of you with the cup and the side shot–you are stunning, Sunny!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Thanks so much Becca! I totally agree with you about how unique this one is. Whether high-end or drugstore, I don’t have the impression that you see many similar colors around.
