I might have mentioned that “organic” or “all-natural” skincare brands are a bit of hit or miss with me. Today I’m showing you a brand that is a big hit, Aesop. I got to know Aesop years ago with Animals (pet shampoo. Tango has needed some baths in his life, but much to his relief the bottle a) is at its end and b) now mostly serves as my brush detergent) and a face cream, but then the brand was promptly forgotten until I rediscovered it some months ago. After having spent some time with the Geranium Leaf Body Balm and Rosehip Seed Oil Lip Cream, I am ready to share my thoughts with you!
Geranium is no doubt an acquired taste, but once you learn to like it you’ll probably be hooked. Aesop’s Geranium Leaf Body Balm smells just like what you would in the garden. There is nothing strange or chemical about the smell, and you can trust me because my nose is picky! The smell is not very potent however, and it doesn’t linger in an “in-your-face” way for long. Still, if you dislike geranium I wouldn’t encourage you to take a chance with this!
If the smell is great, the formula is only greater. Unlike most lotions that are easily available, there is no silicone or alcohol in Geranium Leaf Body Balm. This means that the balm will not make your skin “silky smooth,” and nor will it be “absorbed fast.” Those are usually illusions silicone and alcohol create. The texture of the cream is not thick, but not running either. It takes a little more time to massage it in, but the whole process doesn’t take too much longer than your regular body lotion. Once massaged in, your skin won’t feel “silky smooth,” but nor is it sticky. The best description I have for the feeling is “nourished,” like my skin just got fed properly. I know it sounds ambiguous, so if you have the chance to try this at a counter you really should!
Here is the ingredient list if anyone needs it. As you can see, it contains a variety of oils!
Packaging-wise it’s a aluminum tube with a twist-off cap, so I would suggest you to squeeze from the end and slowly fold it up to avoid wasting any. If you get it in the big packaging (500ml) however, it comes in a bottle with a pump, which I imagine will be much easier to use!
The Rosehip Seed Lip Cream is another little miracle. To be honest I am not the biggest fan of the smell, as I can really pick out the ylang ylang. For some reason that is one scent I can’t seem to love! The packaging is slightly problematic with this one, as the product will keep oozing out slowly however carefully I barely squeeze the tube. Just remember you need to squeeze out less than you actually need, and you really need the tiniest bit for it to work!
The cream is light and absorbed by the lips easily. It basically melts into oil once it gets on the lips, and it does leave a very thin film of oil behind. It prickles a bit if there are small cuts on the lips, but not very badly and I can live with that.
I stand by the fact that I have found my holy grail lip balm with NUXE Honey Lip Balm, but this one serves a totally different purpose and is used for different reasons. The NUXE one, great as it is, is more preventive. If I stick to it every night, I will wake up with soft lips. If I don’t however, it won’t really solve the problem, at least not fast enough. The Rosehip Seed Lip Balm can be used generously at nighttime. I did have doubts about it drying out by the time I get up, but it did not, and my lips were velvety soft in the morning.
What makes it special is if I did not use lip balm at bedtime (I always do, but I chose to skip it several times just to see what this one can do), this lip balm remains the only one I have tried that can do some emergency repair. Just put some on and rub it in a bit. It is absorbed fast enough and restores my lips to a decent condition within minutes! If you want to follow up with a lipstick or gloss, just gently blot out the film of oil and you’re good to go! Don’t forget to choose a more forgiving/hydrating formula in this case.
Here is the ingredient list if anyone needs it:
While it might be too pricey for daily use, this is something I want to always have around. You never know when you’ll need some emergency lip repair! Next time I get on a long-haul flight it is definitely coming with me as well. It leaves no awkward white residue on the inner rim of my lips, and I think my fellow passengers will appreciate it.
Bottom line: These two products get nothing but love from me! The packaging could be better, but for the content I am willing to let everything else go. If you are serious about feeding your skin rather than slathering something that will make it look like all is well, Aesop is a brand you have to look into!
Have you heard about Aesop or tried anything from them? Did any of the two pique your interest?
