My First Dry Shampoos: Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo & Matrix Clean Remix Instant Dry Shampoo

Strange as it might sound, dry shampoo is new to me. I have asked my hairdresser back home why it is virtually unheard of, and the answer is powdery stuff could get sticky with the humidity. I am not sure if some might fare better but in any case, I had no experience with dry shampoo till very recently. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on the two I currently own with you, Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo and Matrix Clean Remix Instant Dry Shampoo.

The Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo is supposed to refresh the roots while pumping the volume up. The aerosol contains 200ml (6.73fl) of product, and the spray has a pretty powerful blast.

According to the instructions, it should be shaken and sprayed from a 30 centimeter distance. You can then massage your scalp with fingertips before styling your hair as usual.

What I like about this one is the fact that it does add a lot of volume to my hair as it promises. With this dry shampoo, I can easily fluff my hair up and make it big (though it doesn’t stay that way. You have to fluff it up once in a while to keep it fluffy). I would suggest you hold it from 30 centimeters away, as the powder is pretty white and lot of it tends to be blasted out even if you are careful. While it is not impossible to massage it into disappearance (even on my very dark hair), it could mean more work. The feeling I get in my hair afterwards is also a bit rubbery, which is common for many volumizing products.

What I am not so sure about this dry shampoo is the fact that it seems to really dry my hair out. I try to stick to the roots, but some inevitably gets into my hair, and by the end of the day my hair really could be too dry. This is why I only use it the day before I shampoo my hair, as I can put some oil in it overnight to restore moisture.

Bottom line: If it’s the day before I shampoo and I feel like having glamorous big hair, I would reach for Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo. However, it tends to dry my hair out a bit too much however careful I am, so it’s a bit of a last resort in my book!

The Matrix Clean Remix Instant Dry Shampoo is basic, yet great. The powder is finer with this one (also it’s easy not to blast too much out), so it is much easier to make it disappear in my hair. What’s more, it does not dry my hair out at all! It does take the greasy shine away, and since it doesn’t leave my hair feeling rubbery or dried-out, it is something I grab for some quick refreshing on most days I need some! It doesn’t pump the volume up (doesn’t promise to either), but it’s great for every day. It also has a bit of an apple scent that I like!

Here is the ingredient list in case anyone needs it:

Bottom line: Matrix Clean Remix Instant Dry Shampoo is a great basic if that’s what you’re looking for. It doesn’t offer added benefits like more volume, but at the same time I can use it repetitively between two washes if I need it!

Have you tried any of these two? Do you use dry shampoo? What’s your go-to?

Gotta love dry shampoos! It’ll never be as great as freshly washed hair, but when I’m in a rush I’m always so thankful for these kinds of products.

Yup! Fake it till you make it (or have time to shampoo it LOL)!

I like the Klorane one most so far, but I’m going to try to get my hands on the Furterer one. Looks promising!

Ahh thanks for the recommendations! I’ll look into those once these two are gone :)

I always have dry shampoo on hand for those days when I literally have no time to wash my hair and get out of the house. :)

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Haha I know what you mean! I can’t shampoo mine too often because it’s long and chemically-treated, and that’s why dry shampoo comes in handy!

I have heard great things about the Batiste Dry Shampoo but haven’t tried it yet. I think on my next shopping trip I’ll pick that one up :)

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

I think people rave about it because it really is volumizing! If you don’t like how roots can look a little flat when they’re not fresh, it is worth picking up!

Batiste also do coloured versions for darker hair so you don’t get the dreaded ‘chalky’ effect. I use the one for medium brunettes but the do a black one too. They’re non-volumising so probably wouldn’t have the rubbery effect you mention. I couldn’t survive a week without the stuff – I have a chunky fringe (bangs) that gets lank v quickly so dry shampoo is my saviour!

Hey Sadie, thanks for the comment! I think we get two kinds of Batiste dry shampoo here, and none of them is colored. I can totally see how useful dry shampoo is for bangs!

My daughter LOVES Batiste a lot! Good stuff for sure!

I have never tried dried shampoo too! Wanted to try Lush’s dry shampoo but then I always think again.. I would rather wash my hair literally :P I like the packaging of Batiste. It looks very cute :D

Dry shampoo is great when you’re running out of time, or for people whose hair is dry but roots oily. Of course nothing beats freshly-washed hair!

    I looove Batiste!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Looks like I’ll have to try a different version! I like the volumizing one but my hair gets too dry!

I’ve been using Batiste XXL too, and I thought it was like dry shampoo with hair spray mixed in one product. I agree it dries my hair out… furthermore, hair feels very stiff. I prefer the Original one, because it clears my scalp of oil AND leaves my hair feeling fresh without that hair spray feel…

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Looks like I’ll have to try the original!

Thanks for the informative post. I didn’t know Batiste comes in XXL Volume. I bought a pink bottle last month but it did nothing to volumize my hair. Now then I realized the pink bottle is just for floral smelling hair!

    • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com Sunny

Gah too bad! At least now you can look for this one if you need some added benefit in your dry shampoo!
