Grab Your Purse and Your Car Key, Because You Will be Lemming for Tarte Eye Catchers 6-Piece SmolderEYES And Skinny SmolderEYES Collector’s Set!

If you don’t love Christmas for anything else, you’ve still got to love it for all the amazing value sets that start flooding the shops around now! Today I have a set that is guaranteed to create MAJOR lemming to share with you!

For those of you who have access to Tarte (or for those of you who want to see pretty things), let’s take a closer look at Tarte Eye Catchers 6-Piece SmolderEYES And Skinny SmolderEYES Collector’s Set!

In short, the idea is that 39 US dollars get you 5 full-size Tarte smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liners (1.6 grams, or 0.056oz. Regular price: 25 USD) and one full-size Tarte skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner (1.2 grams, or 0.04oz. Regular price: 19 USD). To make it even more attractive, none of the 5 jumbo pencils is part of the permanent line-up or even repeat from other sets in the past (as far as I can tell)!

All the pencils come with sponge smudgers. I don’t know how long they will last, or even how hygienic it is to keep using them, but they work well. On top of that, I think this is yet another reason why these are great for quick looks. I have tried to blend the pencils out with brushes as well as my pinky, and they also work fine!

Let’s begin with the chubby ones! From left to right: Rainforest Black, Gunmetal, Champagne, Ash Violet, and Gold.

Rainforest Black is a blackened emerald green, Gunmetal is a taupe, Champagne is a metallic icy pink, Ash Violet is a grayed-out purple, and Gold is actually a brassy bronze.

This is Onyx with the sharpener included in the set. The sharpener is only good for jumbo pencils, but I’m relatively sure everyone owns at least one regular pencil sharpener already:

Onyx is a very intense cool black, definitely much more intense than most black eyeliners I have tried (be them liquid, gel, or pencil)!

Here is the 6 of them swatched:

These pencils are really as soft and creamy as you can imagine. They go on smooth and not patchy (I have more of a job making Gunmetal even for some very strange reason. It is not too frustrating, but just so you know). They practically seem wet when they go on, and they remain smudgable for longer than most similar products I have tried (MUFE Aqua Shadow, UD 24/7…). Based on this observation alone, I was really worried it would not stay put on my lids. However, the second they dry down, they aren’t going anywhere!

I have worn them on un-primed eyelids, and 9 hours later the only sign of wear I got was a bit of fading in the innermost corners (close to my lash line when I stretch my eyelids taut). They hold up on my lower lash line as well, and Onyx stays put both on my lash line and waterline better than anything else I have tried before! Too bad my lower waterline seems to have an issue when I go at it with this pencil (I start tearing up a little, and my eyes get a bit red). If I line my lower lash line and smudge it into my waterline it seems fine, just not when I put the pencil directly on there.

Essentially, we’re looking at a set with great value and quality. Four out of the five jumbo pencils are perfect for quick smokey looks, while Champagne can either be used easily as an inner corner highlighter or all over the lids with another shade in the crease. They blend into each other easily. If you want to use them as eyeshadow bases, they do an amazing job. However, I love them because they are so low-maintenance and function incredibly well alone. All the colors contain shimmer, so even if you wear them alone they won’t look dull or flat!

Just as a heads-up, these don’t part too willingly with your lids, especially Onyx. I was very surprised to find out it cannot be efficiently removed with Bioderma Sensibio, which is usually very effective but for waterproof mascara and certain liquid eyeliners. It’s not a drawback, but remember to bust your oil-based remover out!

If I have to nitpick, since the pencils are so soft and creamy, they will need to be sharpened more often than most pencils (especially Onyx since you might want your line to be precise. It does make a great smudgy eyeliner look, but still I’m assuming you’ll want the line to be thin enough). This makes them a little less economical, but the formula is so fantastic I am prepared to overlook this part!

Since this post is getting a bit too long, I’m saving the look for a separate post tomorrow. Make sure you tune in for that!

Bottom line: Great quality, great colors, and great price. Tarte Eye Catchers 6-Piece SmolderEYES And Skinny SmolderEYES Collector’s Set is a real steal! If you want some eyeliners that are particularly good for quick looks, do not let this set pass you by!

Have you tried Tarte liners? What are your favorite eyeliner/jumbo pencils? Have you found anything that lasts on your waterline?

Wowza these are sooooooo gorgeous and PIGMENTED! That black–my goodness!! So glad to hear they stay put on you! Do you have a preference between these and the UD ones, Sunny?

    • Sunny

Hey Becca, I like the UD ones for lining, but these for eyeshadows or when I want something more smudgable. It’s slightly harder to use these as plain liners, since they’re very soft and almost deposit too much color in one pass. These do, however, stay on a bit better than UD for me.

Wow, I’m impressed ! The green colour really pops out for me !

    • Sunny

Yeah that green one is REALLY intense!

Oooh these look so pretty! :) I like the green and violet ones the most. This brand is not available locally (for me), unfortunately!

    • Sunny

Yeah Tarte should really think about expanding soon, because they do make good stuff that women around the world lust after!

I am addicted to the Milani Champagne Toast Shadow Eyez eye pencil which looks a lot like the champagne in this tarte set. The problem is, the Milani line doesn’t have any other colors I like. These pencils look beautiful.

    • Sunny

OOO I’ve heard great things about Milani ones as well! If you like the colors you should definitely give this set a chance!

  • http://mybeautyhoard.blogspot.com/ Jacqueline

I totally dig the gold and purple shade. They look so gorgeous. This would make a totally lovely Christmas pressie!

    • Sunny

I agree, Jaqueline! I think these are great for beginners as well, since you have more time than usual to play with them before they set!

What a gorgeous and well-valued eyeliner set!! Been wanting to try Tarte Eye Liners since Temptalia raved about them, and now you!!! Pity we don’t have Tarte in Singapore yet. :(

    • Sunny

Aww yeah that’s a real bummer. I hope you will be able to lay your hands on some one day!

  • http://miaka-mylife.blogspot.com Ruby

The colours look quite unique but too bad Tarte is not available in Singapore

    • Sunny

Yeah I know, it’s a real bummer. I feel bad for showing something that isn’t widely available. Maybe you have a friend who is going to/lives in North America…?

  • http://mylucitedreams.com Taylor

Oh wow! These are gorgeous. I love the Ash Violet. These look great for easy application! I love Tarte. Can’t wait to see the looks! Xx

    • Sunny

Thanks Taylor! The look is done with Ash Violet so you can see how it looks on me :)

  • http://thenotice.net Rae // theNotice

Oh my god, those shades. //dies

    • Sunny

I know. I took a bit of a chance because when I purchased the set there weren’t a lot of swatches available, but I’m really glad I did!

  • http://www.bellachique.be Teri

Oh wow, that pigmentation is amazing! Also love the shades soo much! If I need another pencil, I will be definitely consider this!

    • Sunny

      You definitely should, Teri!

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

Damn. Now I really wish I had picked up this kit during the #FF! These shades look amazing, and when you say you could blend them out with a brush…*sniffle*

    • Sunny

Aww but even without the discount this set is a pretty good deal to be honest! You can blend them out with a brush, finger, or just a Q-tip. Anything goes really!

  • http://www.beauty-reflections.com Tracy@Beauty Reflections

Pretty pretty! I should have picked these up during the #FF too! I tried one when they first came out, but didn’t like them. Sounds like they are so much better now!

    • Sunny

Hey Tracy, I found your review and I think the formula is definitely very different now. It is probably the most smudgable formula I’ve tried, but at the same time once it sets it stays put! Don’t know how they do it!

  • http://www.gettingcheeky.com Jessica

Aaaah those swatches! Those are so metallic and beautiful … I can’t decide which I like best!

    ♥ Jessica

    • Sunny

I know! I’ve been playing with them for a while now and I still can’t decide to be honest!

What a beautiful set!! The pigmentation looks amazing and it looks kinda shimmery too which I like! If this stays as long as MUFEs, I think it’s a really good buy considering that this is cheaper than MUFEs. Thanks for introducing this Sunny :) XOXO

    • Sunny

Hey girly, I hope they’ll last well on you, but they really do on me even without a primer. That doesn’t happen every day!

  • http://makeupmew.com/ Sue Lin

Nice swatches, Sunny! Oh my holly! The colors are caroling to me.

    • Sunny

Thanks Sue! It’s a pretty set eh :)

I usually only use a black and a brown pencil but now I really really really want these !

    • Sunny

Haha I use these mostly as eyeshadows, but I’m sure you can line with them as well. You just have to sharpen them more often!

  • http://www.strawberryblondebeauty.com/ Strawberry Blonde

    OMG want!!!!

    • Sunny

I know!!! I was looking at similar offers, but when I saw this I was like “this is IT!”

  • http://www.sprinklesonacupcake.com petra

    Thanks, now I want them!!!
    So pretty!

    • Sunny

      They are! Excellent quality too!

oooh maybe i should not have ignored this kit. it is going back on my list for sure! i love the middle colors – champagne, gunmetal, ash violet. I’m glad to hear they are still creamy – i know i didn’t think the kit they did last year was up to par with their normal smoldereyes, at least based on the testers at stores that i saw.

    • Sunny

Oh yeah put it back on! These are SO incredibly creamy, but once they set they aren’t going anywhere. I have no idea how Tarte did it!
