I know that many, especially those who live in a colder climate, start complaining about duller skin this time of the year. The colder/drier air strips the skin of the usual smooth, even, and plump appearance. What’s more, the bleak winter light certainly doesn’t help either. Well, what is a girl to do?
Over the past month, I have been introducing new skincare products to my routine. While I’m not ready to review most of them in detail just yet (don’t worry. They definitely will be!), together they have certainly contributed to a radiant complexion. If you’re looking for something that will give your skin some extra boost, consider the following!
Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser:
Yes, smooth, healthy, and plump skin starts from cleansing it right. Pai is certainly right about this one being gentle and hydrating! The cleanser has a creamy consistency. It is supposed to be massaged onto damp skin and then taken off with a warm damp muslin cloth. I purchased the Pai Organic Muslin Face Cloth along with it, but any muslin cloth or even a towel will do (please be gentle, dear people. Don’t rub it all over your face or tug on your skin with it).
The result? I can’t believe my eyes! My skin is perfectly cleansed, smooth, and plump. My complexion also looks really bright and creamy. It can also be used as an eye makeup remover, and I can vouch for how gentle it is for the eyes. I have rubbed it in pretty deliberately, and my eyes don’t sting at all! If you want to try something from Pai, I would strongly encourage you to start from the Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser!
REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask:
The short version? This mask contains glycolic, lactic, citric, and tartaric acid which gently removes dead skin cells. The long version? This is probably the most awesome chemical peel I have tried, as it does not contain enough alcohol to get you through another Prohibition! The first couple of times I used it I didn’t see any immediate result. I purged a little, but I could tell this wasn’t the usual allergic reaction I could have to acids. After those couple of times, my skin literally lights up right after I remove the mask. It also becomes incredibly smooth. If I want to put my best foot forward the next day, this is the product I reach for before bedtime. Coupled up with the products I’m going to mention, you can rest assured you’re going to have the most beautiful skin you didn’t know you could have!
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum:
My bottle is disappearing fast, and already I know I will repurchase! It’s too soon to tell if my sun spots will actually fade with this serum, but the brightening and hydrating effects are definitely there! I find the serum is absorbed the most easily when there is a tiny trace of humidity on my face or palms. They don’t have to be wet at all, but as long as there’s a bit of humidity it is so easy to pat this serum in. After you are done, you will see that your skin is more even-toned, and there will be an undeniable glow. I don’t normally have problems with redness, but this one does a great job taking the redness away if there is any!
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Day Perfecting Fluid:
With the chemical peels I use, sun protection is vital even in winter. I was looking for a day cream that will be good for my combination skin, and since my experience with the Vinoperfect Raidance Serum is very positive, I went for the Day Perfecting Fluid (SPF 15 PA++) in the same line.
The consistency of this fluid is very thin and liquidy. It has a tiny bit of tint, though I would hesitate to call this a tinted moisturizer. It might even out the skin tone a tiny bit if I really look, but that’s about it. It dries down to a smooth and velvety texture and it hydrates well. My oily T-zone doesn’t object to this one, though as it is with most creams that don’t claim to mattify, after several hours there will still be a bit of shine. I have to test this one further, but in the meantime suffice to say I consider this a great day cream! There is also a cream version for those with drier skin.
Last but not least, if I love dry oils in spring/summer, I simply can’t live without it in autumn/winter. The Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment has been rigorously tested out and reviewed in detail here, and it remains the dry oil I reach for when I want to give my skin a nice treat. I have literally just started testing the Sophyto Tocotrienol Super Skin Concentrate, but so far so good! I’ll report back to let you know if it is capable of taking the crown of my favorite dry oil!
Besides these products, remember to stay hydrated in winter if you want good skin. I know it could be hard to think about drinking water when “room temperature” feels freezing in the stomach, so why not spice things up with herbal infusion? I’ve always been a big drinker of herbal infusion, but in winter I practically drink one mug after another! Especially with all the heating, even if you’re not moving around you are losing water, so keep that in mind!
What are the skincare products that have impressed you recently? Is your skin suffering from the weather? Do you have a lot of radiance-boosting products in your arsenal?
