“You are both stars, don’t forget. And the stars exploded billions of years ago, to form everything that is this world. Everything we know, is stardust. So don’t forget, you are stardust!”
When I saw Guerlain Liu Perfumed Shimmery Powder, this is the quote that came to my mind. Brownie point if you know where it comes from!
What a collection from Guerlain! I hope you won’t mind the upcoming Guerlain spam, because I have so many beautiful pieces to share with you! Today we’re going to start from Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder.
Liu is one of the timeless Guerlain classic perfumes. It was launched in 1929, and the packaging is reminiscent of a Chinese tea caddy. Composed of notes such as aldehydes, rose, amber, and vanilla, Liu evokes the glamour of Shanghai.
The Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder takes on the same bottle as the fragrance, with a black-and-gold spray head and black bulb. When you press on the bulb, a veil of fine golden powder is released onto your skin and hair, leaving a delicate glow.
Not only is Guerlain Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder the ultimate glamour piece on your vanity (I’ve been wanting a fragrance with a bulb ever since I was a little kid! That and a fluffy powder puff), I actually really enjoy this powder. It is scented but not overpoweringly so, and the scent lingers for quite some hours. It smells soft and powdery to me, and it contains floral and woody notes that I can discern.
On top of that, the sparkle is extremely fine. It is not the glittery stuff a teenager might smear all over herself with (nor is Liu something a teenager could afford, just to be very honest). The powder is distributed very evenly onto the skin. You won’t risk getting a very shimmery patch and nothing else around it. I personally wouldn’t use it on my face, just because I don’t usually go for all-over shimmer. However, because of how fine the shimmer is, I believe there is a way of doing it in a sophisticated manner. It is shimmery powder at its best; nothing short of what I would expect from Guerlain!
I hope you will get a rough idea about how it looks on from this picture. Do note that this really doesn’t capture even half of how beautiful the powder is in real life!
To help the powder stay on better, spray it on right after your body lotion/cream. Removing is rather easy (if you wash, the majority of the shimmer will be gone), and the powder doesn’t get all over the place! It may sound silly, but I adore how some of the powder floats around in the air after pressing the bulb. If Tinkerbell really existed, this is what I imagine her twinkling pixie dust would look like!
Bottom line: While Guerlain Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder is by no means a necessity, it is the ultimate symbol of glamour and imagination. The packaging functions well, the scent and effect are adorable, and it just might make a fantastic Christmas present for the most glamorous lady in your life!
Have you seen the Guerlain Liu collection? What is on your lust list? Have you tried any shimmer powder or body lotion?

PS: The quote comes from Before Sunrise. For those of you who have seen the movie, remember the gypsy palm reader? Also, I’m pretty excited about Before Midnight which is coming out next year!
