I blame it on the beauty blogs. Even though I own so many eyeshadows out of which the grand majority is neutral, I gave in to the temptation and swatched the single eyeshadows at the Burberry counter. All of them impressed me with their quality, some of them spoke to me, but the first one I “needed” was No. 22 Pale Barley!
Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows (it beats me why they call these sheer) come in extremely hefty and luxurious compacts with the classic trench pattern on top. The compact opens to a mirror, the eyeshadow, and a sponge applicator.
The trench pattern is also embossed on the eyeshadow. I read that many people start using these from the upper left corner, and I can definitely see why. The eyeshadow weighs 2.5 grams (0.088oz), which is a generous amount of product in comparison with most eyeshadows on the market.
Pale Barley is a pale taupe with tiny pearl and the softest sheen. If you don’t like very shimmery eyeshadows but want something that is not completely matte, Burberry Pale Barley is just that. The texture is amazingly soft, and the pigmentation is out of this world. There is no fallout whatsoever whatever brush I use (both a flat paddle brush and a fluffy blending brush), and with one swipe it gives the eye the prettiest glow!
I personally can’t get enough of this shade because it’s not just another boring neutral. It has real quality, depth, and dimension. At the same time, it’s extremely practical. I could use it as a light wash on the lids just for brighter eyes on a lazy day, and it works so so well when I want to wear a bright lipstick!
For the look I used Burberry Pale Barley on the inner half, Bobbi Brown Wheat to contour, and Bobbi Brown Candlelight for the inner corners. A lot of Bobbi Brown Black Ink Gel Liner and a bit of Bobbi Brown Rich Caviar on my lower lash line later (all the Bobbi Brown eyeshadows come from the holiday limited edition Rich Caviar Palette), the eyes were done!
Oh you want to know what that lipstick is? It’ll be up here soon!
Bottom line: Burberry Pale Barley Sheer Eye Shadow is something to take into serious consideration if you wear neutrals quite often. It is fantastic quality, the color is universally flattering, and there just is no way you can use this wrong!
Have you tried anything from Burberry? What would you recommend? What are some of your favorite “can’t go wrong” eyeshadows?
