Quick Christmas Present Idea: Bodhi Essential Skin Care Set

Here’s the thing: every year before Christmas you painstakingly make a list that includes everybody you can think of and buy the presents, only to find out someone you really didn’t expect to be invited… at your Christmas dinner table. Your godmother, her daughter, an aunt… Oh look, she has a present for you!

This is why it might be a great idea to grab the Bodhi Essential Skin Care Set for such emergencies. Let me tell you something: I hope that you won’t have to resort to giving it away, because this set is so truly adorable that you will enjoy it enormously yourself!

Bodhi is a relatively new UK-based brand that is dedicated to creating natural products that are free of synthetic ingredients. They started out with shower/bath gels and body lotions, and they have recently launched their first skincare product (it’s a dry oil that smells like roses. I don’t know what else it can do for me to like it more).

Bodhi Essential Skin Care Set contains two 50ml bottles of Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Bath & Shower Therapy and Palmarosa Verde Purifying Bath & Shower Therapy, a 40ml tube of Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Body Moisturizer, a 5ml bottle of their new Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil, and a Bamboo Cotton Eco-Luxe Body & Face Flannel.

If you like essential oil, chances are you will love Bodhi Bath & Shower Therapy. I don’t have a bathtub so I couldn’t test these out in a bath, but it is quite a treat to pour some on the Bamboo Cotton Eco-Luxe Body & Face Flannel and start showering away. The flannel has two sides, one rougher and one smooth. You can choose depending on how much exfoliation you need!

Truth be told, I am not a fan of ylang-ylang. In most cases it is simply too overpowering, and my head just starts spinning. Luckily for Bodhi, all their products contain a blend of essential oils. Take Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Bath & Shower Therapy for example, the notes include honeysuckle, hyacinth, ylang-ylang, neroli, pink peppercorn, Roman chamomile, and patchouli. While I can certainly detect the ylang-ylang, the blend is delightful and I actually enjoy using it! You only need a tiny bit (especially if you use it with the flannel), and you can feel the aroma really working on your senses.

The Palmarosa Verde Purifying Bath & Shower Therapy has a refreshing scent consisting of grapefruit, elemi, palmarosa, bourbon geranium, clary sage, jasmine absolute, ylang-ylang, Bulgarian damask rose otto, and opopanax. I like the zestiness, and I can definitely pick the geranium out, which wins this one a big bonus point!

The Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Body Moisturizer smells just like its shower partner. The texture isn’t heavy, and just like my favorite kind of body lotion, it takes a tiny bit more work to rub it in (because it doesn’t contain silicone or alcohol, the usual ingredients companies put in lotions to make you believe their lotions are “absorbed fast” and leave this “silky feeling”). The scent is very present in the beginning, but it disperses fast. It doesn’t leave a greasy or waxy film, but you can feel your skin is moisturized. I don’t really have enough to test the formula out thoroughly with the tube, but I definitely plan to purchase a full-size bottle at some point and give it a proper go. For the past week, my skin has appreciated this new ally in fighting the cold outside and heated air inside!

I seriously can’t “review” any skincare products along this line after having used it for roughly a week. Therefore, this is going to be more like a first impression evaluation of the new Bodhi Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil. I will come back with a detailed one when I’ve had enough time to formulate a definitive opinion!

Bodhi Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil contains a blend of numerous different oils (among which argan kernel, kukui nut, jojoba, sweet almond…). It smells lightly of rose (from the rose flower oil). What sets this oil apart from the others I have tried is how fast it is absorbed. I have got used to thick and heavy oils, but I can understand not everybody wants that. If you have wanted to try dry oils but are a bit unsure of the “greasiness,” I would recommend checking this one out. It is great for beginners as it is absorbed fast into the skin with very little residue. Still, I wake up with plump and soft skin the next day!

Here are the ingredient lists if anyone needs it:

Bottom line: I would highly recommend Bodhi Essential Skin Care Set. Whether you want to give it as a present or keep it for yourself, you will be making someone happy! On top of that, it’s a great opportunity to sample Bodhi‘s new Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil, which I would highly recommend to dry oil beginners!

Haha it’s a relatively new brand, but I really love smaller independent brands that are great at what they do!

I am a huge fan of essential oils. My favorite bath soaps are made from essentials oils and I love them.

Sounds indulgent, but I’m not the biggest fan of essential oil type smells.

    • Sunny

Aww too bad. Well I have another set coming up soon and it doesn’t smell like essential oil :)

Hi Sunny, I’m not familiar with Bodhi, but ylang ylang always sounds good in my book :)

    • Sunny

Hey Dovey, you might want to check Bodhi out. That ylang-ylang one smells GOOD!

I’m not a fan of essential (fragrant) oils, they can be quite irritating. The face oil sounds good though. Lots of good emollient non fragrant oils. I have an oily skin so it wouldnt be a good idea for my face but I would definitely use it for my cuticles

    • Sunny

Hey Anna, I personally think most skin types can benefit from dry oils. You just have to find one that your skin likes! If it’s just for your cuticle you should definitely look for something cheaper. This Desert Rose Rejuvenating Oil is way too luxurious to be used for that purpose ;)

I’m not familiar with the expression “dry oils”. From the ingredients I see that it contains Argan oil, kukui nut oil, jojoba oil all very problematic for oily skin that already produces excess of sebum (oil).
Fantastic for dry skin though that doesn’t produce enough oil.
I’m an esthetician and I think the dry oil description comes from the fact when small molecular oils are used they can absorb very quickly and they don’t usually leave a greasy residue on the skin. Non the less they are not recommended for oily, breakout prone areas of the skin

        • http://www.polished.ca Anna

I meant “small, low molecular weight oils “

          • Sunny

Hey Anna, yeah I think dry oil is absorbed faster without as much residue. I would approach the breakout-prone skin type with a lot of caution as well, but I have combination skin with oily T-zone, and I still think those areas benefit from good oils. It probably is a very case-by-case thing, and it will largely depend on which one you try as well!
