Femme Boulevard December: Ushering New Year 2013 With Style

Hey everyone!

As you might already know, there’s a new band of beauty bloggers on the block called Femme Boulevard (the members include Teri, Lily, and Joey). I haven’t run away with the circus, but for December they exceptionally decided to collaborate with non-members for the New Year’s Eve look. The theme is metallic lids and bold lips. While I wear both separately with ease, I have never combined them previously so let’s take a look to see how it turned out!

I started out with the eyes since I knew there would be a bit of fallout. I laid Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #25 all over my lids before busting the Bobbi Brown Rich Caviar palette out. I used Bone to highlight my brow bones and Candlelight in the inner corners. I patted some Olive Sparkle in the center of my lids, and blended Black Topaz in the outer corners. I lined my eyes with Bobbi Brown Black Ink and went over the lower lash line with Rich Caviar. Some lash primer and mascara (Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara) later the eyes were done!

Since the look was going to be heavy, I needed my skin to look its best. I started out with Becca Resurfacing Primer(still testing it out. I’ll review it as soon as I can form an opinion), and did a careful layer of Guerlain Parure de Lumière. Some concealer later, I set everything in place with Guerlain Perles du Dragon Météorites. I opted for Chanel Rose Initiale on my cheeks (it’s my go-to when I want to do a red lip), contoured with Chanel Notorious, and highlighted with Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder.

For my lips, I applied the first layer of Dior Diorling Diorific Lipstick carefully with a lip brush. After I perfected the shape and edges, I dabbed on a second layer to give it some more oomph. I also patted some Guerlain Altoum Shine Automatique on the center of my lips for some extra poutiness!

I’m a total dummy in the nail art department, so I always cheat by finding interesting stuff to wear. This time, it’s ncLA I am your Muse Nail Wraps. It has black lacy design and a red base. What’s more, the shimmer in the red base comes to life with some top coat on. Dr. D usually couldn’t care less about my makeup experiments, but he came into the room halfway through my nail wrap application and asked:” What’s that?” “They’re nail wraps, like stickers for your nails.” “They’re really nice! You should wear them on New Year’s Eve!”

I guess that says a lot about how cool these are!

I wish you an early happy new year, everyone! 2012 has been good to me, and it wouldn’t have been the same without you! Thank you SO much for reading, commenting, and for simply being there! I hope I bring you as much joy as you do for me, and we’ll continue to have fun together in 2013!

What are your plans for the New Years Eve, or more importantly, what do you plan to WEAR? Do you ever combine heavy eyes and bold lips? Have you tried nail wraps?

Sunny, your beauty culture translator xx

PS: Check out everybody else’s posts here:

PPS: You can find ncLA on Zuneta. The nail wraps cost around 16 euros (Zuneta bills in GBP, so it will depend on the conversion rate). There are 22 wraps and a nail file in the package. I’ll have to play with mine one more time before I can tell you about all the details, so it will be for another post.

Oh Sunny, you are looking gorgeous here! I love the green eye eyes with the lip, it’s perfectly balanced! And the nails do look very interesting idd! Funny how D has a special taste about those, haha ;).

    • Sunny

Thanks so much Teri! Anything that can pull green pulls pretty green on me eh ;) Dr. D likes funky nail polishes, so it wasn’t TOO surprising but still!

  • http://musingonbeauty.blogspot.com Mariella (Musing on Beauty)

    So flawless, and just beautiful!

    • Sunny

      Thanks SO much Mariella! xx

  • http://www.s-bitsandbobs.com Sukie

Hello Sunny! Love how your eyes turned out and the fact that we both used Guerlain’s Altoum Shine Automatique on our lips! I wanted to do my nails too but I’m really clumsy when it comes to painting my nails so I guess I’ll be looking at those pretty nail wraps thanks to you! xx

    • Sunny

Hey Sukie, high five for Altoum wearers! I have never ever attempted any nail art (not even with a dotting tool), so nail wraps are a great alternative. I’m going to do one more wear test soon but they hung on reasonably well for the first go!

  • http://beautiesatwork.wordpress.com/ beauties

    the lipstick looks gorgeous :D

    • Sunny

Thanks girly! It’s really low-maintenance as well, which is why it’s so awesome!

  • http://joeychong.com Joey Chong

    Hi Sunny,
Hope you had lots of fun =)
I love the nail wraps!! And your look is very elegant and wearable, you should wear bold lids and lips more often xx

    • Sunny

Hey Joey, I had waaaay too much fun! This is not something I’d wear running errands, but for a night out I’d totally do something like this :)

  • http://followmarla.blogspot.com/ Marla

Lovely look on you. Love that eyeshadow shade and the red lips. I agree with Dr. D, those nail wraps are awesome.

    • Sunny

Thanks Marla! I’ll get a more detailed review up soon, but they wore reasonably well!

Hello Sunny! :) I have to say that’s a really lovely look you got there! And yes, the nails are a great touch too! :D

    • Sunny

Hey Stephanie! Thanks so much for dropping by! I love your look as well :) The nails are particularly fun because I’ve been getting quite a kick out of lacy stuff!

This makeup looks and lip combo is so beautiful. And please do a full review on the Becca Resurfacing Primer. I’m really interested in this.

    • Sunny

Thanks Angela! I will do a detailed review once I have some time to test it out properly!

  • http://www.chloeash.com Lily (@ChloeAsh)

You’re making me want the Bobbi Brown palette. Good thing it’s limited edition and I’m on a no buy for 2 months! I love this look. You look absolutely glamorous.

    • Sunny

Haha sorry Lily. This palette is one of my most-used this year for sure! It just has too many of my favorite elements in one place!

  • http://www.myfashiontrendencies.com Chris El

You look stunning!! I have no clue what I’ll be doing for my NYE makeup. It’s a toss up between a bold red lip (very likely), or glittery/sparkly eyes and berry lips. I can’t believe I’m saying, have a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Where has 2012 gone? ;)

    • Sunny

Aww thanks so much Chris! Have fun on your holiday (and yes, at the end of EVERY year I wonder where my year has gone)!

  • http://www.lenallure.com L e n a

you came up with a great party look!

Oooh, I love the blackened gold look! Very sultry, indeed! I love your earrings, too!

    • Sunny

Thanks Larie! I’m so glad I picked #25 up. It’s so totally my shade! I’ve got these earrings for years now. They’re great for parties, but they dangle so much and wouldn’t be still for pictures ;)

  • http://www.glittergeek.ca Arianne

Gorgeous, Sunny! The whole look is so sultry and sexy. :) I love how you did your eyes here. The eyeshadow placement is PERFECT on you.

    • Sunny

Eee thanks so much Arianne! I might have blended the eyeshadows a bit higher than usual. After some mascara it balanced out :)
