I remember when I first started getting into makeup, one of the things on my priority to-learn list was a smokey eye. I have definitely made my mistakes blending the shadows up too high, trying bases that creased on me within a minute or two, and getting powder fallout all the way down my cheeks. That was before I discovered a good hybrid/cream eyeshadow practically does all the work for me! If you want a navy blue smokey eye, take a look at Chanel Apparition Illusion d’Ombre (91. RRP in Belgium: 30 euros).

Chanel Apparition Illusion d’Ombre come in the standard glass pot. It has the typical bouncy texture of Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, but for some reason it seems much creamier than the ones I own. It also feels somehow wetter, which made me slightly skeptical about its lasting power. However, both with and without a primer Apparition holds up like a champion! With a primer it lasts all day, and without a primer I can see very slight fading (but no creasing) in my inner corners after 6-7 hours. It is impressive, but I would still suggest you use Apparition over a primer, as it is opaque in one swipe that way!
Apparition is a shimmery navy blue with a gray undertone. At certain angles it looks a little like a blurple as well, which gives the color incredible depth. It is creamy and smooth. You definitely have enough time to blend it out properly on the lids, but as I have said once it sets it’s there until you remove it. Despite the fact that it is shimmery, there is no fallout at all. It’s hard to imagine a better way of achieving a shimmery navy smokey eye!
Here I am wearing Apparition all over my lids with some black gel liner patted into the roots of my lashes. I have Chanel Bleu Exquis Stylo Yeux Waterproof on my lower lash line, which will be reviewed separately soon!
See how the outer edges seems more gray? The gray in Apparition does that when it is blended out. You don’t even have to blend a neutral shade into your crease!
Easy breezy navy blue smokey eye that takes a minute to do, lasts all day, and doesn’t even leave you a whole bunch of dirty brushes to clean up afterwards. What’s not to love?
Bottom line: Chanel Apparition Illusion d’Ombre is not my first Illusion d’Ombre, but it certainly is my first Illusion d’Ombre that works so beautifully on its own. Are you running out of time to do your makeup for a party? Swipe this on and you’re good to go! It’s that easy, and it will stay with you until you want it to be gone!
Have you tried a Chanel Illusion d’Ombre? Does the formula wear well on you? Does Apparition look like your color?
