I don’t know how this came about. I was just supposed to pick something up for a friend in the department store, but before I realized what was going on, I was swatching some more Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows (RRP in Belgium: 25 euros). And then I heard myself tell the lady: ” I would like No. 09, Rosewood, thank you very much.” Oops!
Oh well, it’s not as if I didn’t know I would go back for more after Pale Barley (this baby is so well-loved)!

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows comes in solid, hefty, and luxurious-feeling packaging. You can see the famous checkered pattern on the compact, the velvet pouch, and even the eyeshadow itself. I wish the enclosed applicator would be a tiny brush instead (like one of the applicators included in their Complete Eye Palettes), but even in that case I don’t think I’ll reach for it often.
Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows contain a healthy amount of 2,5 grams (0.088 oz).
Rosewood is another shade that is very “Burberry” to me. It looks simple, understated, and nothing much in the pan, but once you swatch it you will know why so many have become obsessed.
Rosewood is a light taupe with some pearl and a slight shimmer. It is creamy and soft, goes on smooth and even, yet it has this translucent quality that makes it very delicate and pretty. Much like Pale Barley, Rosewood is a shade that will look different depending on your skin tone and what you pair it with. The undertone is also rather neutral, so I think most people will be able to pull it off with ease.
This is how Rosewood swatches on me. Do note that my arm is slightly darker and has more olive undertone, so it looks grayer and plummier somehow:
For the look, I used Rosewood for the inner half of my lids, and the plum from Burberry Plum Pink Complete Eye Palette on the outer half. I used the beige in Plum Pink to highlight my inner corners, and the taupy gray to go over my lower lash line. I have Burberry Antique Pink Lip Velvet on my lips:
Bottom line: Most Burberry eyeshadows seem quite unassuming, but if you love and wear neutrals often, give them a swatch because you will know how special they are. No. 09 Rosewood Sheer Eye Shadow is yet another one that I see myself reaching for all the time, and something I think will work for everybody!
Have you tried anything from Burberry? Is Rosewood something you see yourself wearing or is it too safe for you?
