One More for the Neutral Eyeshadow Connoisseurs: Burberry No. 09 Rosewood Sheer Eye Shadow

Burberry Rosewood, Plum Pink FOTD

I don’t know how this came about. I was just supposed to pick something up for a friend in the department store, but before I realized what was going on, I was swatching some more Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows (RRP in Belgium: 25 euros). And then I heard myself tell the lady: ” I would like No. 09, Rosewood, thank you very much.” Oops!

Oh well, it’s not as if I didn’t know I would go back for more after Pale Barley (this baby is so well-loved)!

(You see a miniature Antique Pink Lip Velvet next to Rosewood Sheer Eye Shadow in this picture)

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows comes in solid, hefty, and luxurious-feeling packaging. You can see the famous checkered pattern on the compact, the velvet pouch, and even the eyeshadow itself. I wish the enclosed applicator would be a tiny brush instead (like one of the applicators included in their Complete Eye Palettes), but even in that case I don’t think I’ll reach for it often.

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows contain a healthy amount of 2,5 grams (0.088 oz).

Burberry Rosewood eyeshadow

Rosewood is another shade that is very “Burberry” to me. It looks simple, understated, and nothing much in the pan, but once you swatch it you will know why so many have become obsessed.

Rosewood is a light taupe with some pearl and a slight shimmer. It is creamy and soft, goes on smooth and even, yet it has this translucent quality that makes it very delicate and pretty. Much like Pale Barley, Rosewood is a shade that will look different depending on your skin tone and what you pair it with. The undertone is also rather neutral, so I think most people will be able to pull it off with ease.

This is how Rosewood swatches on me. Do note that my arm is slightly darker and has more olive undertone, so it looks grayer and plummier somehow:

For the look, I used Rosewood for the inner half of my lids, and the plum from Burberry Plum Pink Complete Eye Palette on the outer half. I used the beige in Plum Pink to highlight my inner corners, and the taupy gray to go over my lower lash line. I have Burberry Antique Pink Lip Velvet on my lips:

Bottom line: Most Burberry eyeshadows seem quite unassuming, but if you love and wear neutrals often, give them a swatch because you will know how special they are. No. 09 Rosewood Sheer Eye Shadow is yet another one that I see myself reaching for all the time, and something I think will work for everybody!

Have you tried anything from Burberry? Is Rosewood something you see yourself wearing or is it too safe for you?

  • Lily (@ChloeAsh)

Rosewood looks a little more pink on my arm, for some reason. I picked up Midnight Brown and Pale Barley instead :-) Love both of them. I also have Mulberry which I think will look different on everyone. My fave has to be Mulberry!

    • Sunny

Oh that’s interesting. I do think shades like these pull different with different skin tones though. Now I have to check Mulberry out!

  • lippylash

I think that lipstick looks GORGEOUS!!!!

    • Sunny

Thanks! I’ll review the formula soon! It’s really pretty amazing!

  • beauties

love this kind of shade :)

    • Sunny

Yup it’s so subtle and sophisticated!

  • Teri

Oh yeah, it’s very Burberry idd but such a perfect neutral shades. I think Burberry does those shades perfectly! You look lovely hon! ^^

    • Sunny

Thanks so much, Teri! We should visit the counter together again and see how much damage that can do 😉

  • L

burberry makes such beautiful neutrals!i actually dont own any burberry because the department stores in my immediate area dont carry them which is probably safer for me wallet wise 😛 but if i dont happen upon them i’d probably picked up that very gorgeous shade on your lids^^.

    • Sunny

LOL there is ONE Burberry counter in the entire Belgium, but every time I’m in the area I drop by “just to look.” You should definitely check the counter out when you can!

  • Kiss & Make-up

I don’t wear neutral shades often (or at all, even…) but I do like them on other people. If that makes sense :-) I think this looks suits you really well.

    • Sunny

Haha yup it makes sense. Thanks girly 😉

  • Jacqueline

Rosewood looks gorgeous on you Sunny, I love the whole look. That reminds me to use my Rosewood more.

    • Sunny

Thanks so much, Jacqueline! You should give Rosewood more love!

  • Procrastinator

I can’t believe I’ve been able to resist Burberry shadows for SO long. Must…hold…out.

    • Sunny

You know resistance is futile right? LOL

  • patuxxa

I adore Rosewood! I’ve owned it for about a year and I’ve dug a little valley in the pan already… It’s very much the epitome of effortless chic at which Burberry excels.

    • Sunny

Haha a little valley in the pan 😉 Burberry makes shades like these like no other!

  • Sofia

With the name rosewood I was expecting a darker pinky brown colour (like a blush). Not at all. Its so lovely. And with it you look, well, perfect!

    • Sunny

Aww thanks so much, Sofia! It’s actually great for a light wash of color!

  • Jasmine

Beautiful shade. I think it’s so neat how light it looks but swatched looks darker. ^.^

    • Sunny

Hey Jasmine, I think it looks lighter on the lids. It has a lot to do with the slightly different skin tone I have on my arm and the fact that I didn’t swatch with a brush.

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

What a gorgeous Burberry look! I have been wanting Rosewood for FOREVER! And you got Plum Pink?!! EEE WANT SO BAD!! 😛

    • Sunny

Thanks Becca! Yes I have Plum Pink as well. I’ll show it ASAP!

  • Rose

I love Rosewood! I use it as a subdued daytime smokey/cat eye, a la Barbara Streisand in Funny Face, with Chanel’s Santal and Taupe eyeliner. Never real thought about Pale Barley, but you make me want to go look when I *ahem* need to shop for my Mum!

  • Rose

Ack! I meant “really thought”, not “real thought”. I hate auto-correction!!

    • Sunny

LOL you’re funny. Pale Barley is a shade I keep going back to, and that says a lot about it! I think it’ll be relaunched this autumn, so take your chance!

  • Makeup Morsels

*dreamy sigh* methinks I would start with Pale Barley, but this shade is gorgeous as well. Love how it looks on your lids, Burberry eyeshadows are just so sophisticated.

    • Sunny

Oh yeah Pale Barley is a great place to start! Sophisticated is a great word for Burberry beauty 😉

  • Beauty Box

What a gorgeous taupe! It’s calling my name. I wish Burberry were accessible to me.

    • Sunny

Aww yeah the limited availability is a bit of a pain! You should do what I do when a brand is not available here: give a nice friend puppy eyes and see if he/she is nice enough to send some over!

  • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

I have both of these and LOVE them. Then again I love ALL Burberry haha! They both look lovely on you!

    • Sunny

Thanks so much, Tracy! I do hope Burberry will add more shades to the Lip Velvet line soon. I love the texture to bits, but I don’t think I’ll pick up a full-size one anytime soon because I don’t see anything too compelling for the moment.

  • Dovey

    Hi Sunny,

Just gorgeous! I really love the look you put together with Rosewood!

    • Sunny

Thanks so much, Dovey! I like to think this is my “polished” look 😉

  • nawi

Just bought my first Burberry shade last week Rosewood. I combine it with the taupe and santal eyeliner from chanel as whell beautiful! Just adore it! I wanted to get Pale Barley but it is has not been avaible for a while here in Holland. Do they still have it in Belgium Sunny and where is the departement store that sells Burberry?

    • Sunny

Sounds like GREAT pairings! I think Pale Barley is still available here. There is ONE Burberry counter in Belgium, and it’s located at Inno Louiza (Brussels). I know that Burberry is repromoting Pale Barley in their autumn collection though. If you don’t want to make a trip here you can maybe wait a little!

      • Nawi

Thank you so very much how wonderfull that its being repromoted! Do you know that your picture covers the end of your sentences in your reply?

        • Sunny

Hey Nawi, nope I actually never realized that! Thanks for letting me know. I’ll look into it!

  • Claire

I think Burberry has done an amazing job on their makeup line, I am more than impressed. The soft murkiness in all their e/s makes me want to buy them all and collect like pearls D: Rosewood is beautiful but to be hinest, I can’t think of any e/s that isn’t nice. My newest addition to my babies is gold trench, worn so much (the best crease colour ever to add warmth) that it already has a small dip :O I couldn’t choose my favourite colour, Mulberry, Pale Barley, even the lighter shades are just perfect. I just wish they would come in refills, I am really bad at depotting.

    • Sunny

Hey Claire, haha I know what you mean! Every time I go I think I picked up my favorite shade and I won’t need more of them, but the same thing just keeps happening! For some strange reason I really want Trench, even though I have found good highlighting shades for my brow bones! I don’t depot these. I just keep them as they are because I am too scared I’ll do something wrong and ruin my precious eyeshadows!

  • Peggy Timmermans Visagie

It’s ideal as a base colour my opinion! I would definately use it!

    • Sunny

Yeah it’s definitely great for your kit!

  • Taylor

Looks gorgeous! I though Rosewood was a little darker. The lipstick is beautiful!

    • Sunny

Thanks, Taylor! Rosewood is a pretty sheer light wash on my lids, though I think it’ll look different on different skin tones!
