My Eyes But Better: Hourglass Suede Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo

Hourglass Suede EOTD

This week probably has to be named the subtle eyeshadow appreciation week on Mostly Sunny. I’m showing you Hourglass Suede Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo today, and it can hardly get more subtle than this!

Hourglass Suede duo

I’m no stranger to Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duos. Since I blogged about Exhibition not so long ago, I am not going into detail about the packaging here. I remain a fan of the enclosed brush. I sometimes use it for my inner corners/lower lash line.

Hourglass Suede closeup

Hourglass Suede Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo consists of a light champagne beige with satin finish and an ever-so-slightly shimmery fawn (I really want to call it a taupe, but it doesn’t have enough gray in it to be one). As what you can reasonably expect from Hourglass, both shades are creamy, smooth, and pigmented. Despite the fact that they do contain some shimmer, it catches light in an extremely subtle way. I can use the light champagne beige all the way to my brow bones as a base (which says a lot because I normally avoid putting anything all the way up to my brow bones), or as a wash of color on the inner half of my lids. The fawn is a great natural-looking contouring shade. I have used it all over my main lids (below my socket line) as well.

Here is the swatch:

You have seen Suede used as a regular duo in this look:

Guerlain Ballade Rouge Automatique + LMdB Coral Rose

Hourglass Suede FOTD

In my Valentine’s Day look I used the lighter shade all the way to my brow bones, and the darker shade on my main lids. It’s hard to really see the colors here since the goal is to have something really blended, but still:

Guerlain Ballade + LMdB Coral Rose

Hourglass Suede, Exhibition, Dune

Bottom line: Do you need Hourglass Suede? You know me. I almost never tell you that you need anything. Is it something you would appreciate once you have seen a lot of neutrals? Yes. The quality is typically Hourglass, and it is versatile in a different sense. You won’t get a smokey eye out of this duo alone, but as base shades they will help everything blend and give the look dimension you would not otherwise have.

Too subtle for you or right up your alley? Have you tried anything from Hourglass after my constant pestering?

Sunny, your beauty culture translator xx

PS; If you live where Hourglass counters are not available, Zuneta carries the brand. Until March 11th, you can get 15 GBP off purchase over 50 GBP with code SPRING (don’t even ask me what’s on my wish list. You’ll spend the better part of your day hearing about it)!

I bought a lot of ‘safe shades’ such as these when I first started out in makeup, so I’ve ventured out into darker and more pigmented shades now. However, these shades are my first loves and I still have a soft spot for them. I have yet to try Hourglass, but I’m eyeing the Mineral Veil primer instead :-)

    • Sunny

OOO yeah I’m curious about that one as well! When I run out of my current Becca I think I’ll get that! I used to hunt for special eyeshadows, and I developed a taste for very subtle shades after I got into lipsticks!

  • nawi

Sorry sunny it hardly shows up on your eyes. Easy pass for me.

    • Sunny

OOO believe you me that darker shade definitely gives my eyes more dimension. Otherwise my entire lids are just flat ;)

  • http://beautiesatwork.wordpress.com/ beauties

    this looks really nude :)

    • Sunny

Yup. That’s why the duo is pretty unique in my collection!

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.wordpress.com Kiss & Make-up

Too subtle for me. The nude look doesn’t work for me, or at least I don’t think it does.

    • Sunny

Haha I understand. I used to go nuts about eye makeup, but ever since I started getting into lipsticks I’ve learnt to appreciate understated eyeshadows!

  • http://memoiselle.com/ Meryl @ Memoiselle

I don’t think this suits my taste, looks a bit too pale for me.

    • Sunny

I know what you mean. They are not too visible on me, but I think that’s why I like them! After all the crazy things I wear, this duo is a welcome alternative!

  • http://myfashiontrendencies.com Chris

This may be too light for me but it’s perfect on you. I don’t own any hourglass shadows but they seem really creamy.

    • Sunny

Hey Chris, you should at least swatch them because they really are amazing quality! I bet both Dune and Exhibition will look fantastic on you!

  • http://aucupariabrumalis.wordpress.com Claire

Suede is the only Hourglass duo I think it is not for me (thank god), I like the other ones I have, very underrated imo. the texture is just devine! I really like the last picture (I seem to like the last ones the most, haha), you should do a tutorial on your liner or something, I think your skillz are very good xxx

    • Sunny

Awww thanks so much, Claire! I still might eventually pick Gypsy up, but for the moment it looks a little too warm for me. Maybe I’ll be all over warmer shades when the weather gets better! I keep thinking I should do new monolid tutorials and eyeliner tutorials. I’ll try to work them into my schedule soon!

  • http://www.blushingnoir.com Brooke @ Blushing Noir

I love this duo! It’s my go-to for an every day look and quite possible the only shadows I own with dips! It looks lovely on you <3

    • Sunny

Haha yaaay glad to hear you like it too!

  • http://www.perilouslypale.com Perilously Pale

I have Exhibition, Dune, and Gypsy. I have always wanted Suede. I know its’ not all that exciting but they are great everyday shades in an amazing formula so its a win win!

    • Sunny

I might want Gypsy at some point, but for the moment the darker shade looks a bit too warm! I reach for good duos/trios/quads/quints way more often than exciting palettes with many bright colors. I guess that’s just me ;)

  • Rose

I love these colors and are perfect for everyday on my pasty white skin! I may pass on this though because I prefer a matte contour color and I have TONS of neutral colors, matte and shimmers, that would take me a lifetime to use! BTW, after calling every US store I could think of to no avail, I’m finally getting my Jeux de Regard collection from Chanel in Canada! SA could tell I was some crazy makeup hoarder. (I will neither confirm nor deny this…. ;b )

    • Sunny

LOL good for you, Rose! Keep me posted about how you like the pieces you picked up! So glad you managed to lay your hands on the collection :)

      • Rose

I will! The only bummer to this is that the shipping is about $75CAD!! It’s like I’m paying for two quads +! OUCH….

        • Sunny

          Ouch! Wow that’s drastic :(

  • http://redhotjillypeppers.com Redhotjillypeppers

I love these nude colours for an everyday look

    • Sunny

      Definitely very office-appropriate!

  • http://myhighestselfblog.com/ Tina @ My Highest Self

Very nice subtle shades and they sound like wonderful quality. I would probably like the brushes also!

    • Sunny

I’ve actually done a whole look with that tiny brush. It’s totally doable!

  • http://mylucitedreams.com Taylor

I like the subtle definition, I’ve been known to like a subtle look :-)

    • Sunny

Haha yeah then Suede is right up your alley!

  • http://mybeautysample.com/ Becca @ The Beauty Sample

So lovely on you! I actually passed this one on to my mom. I liked it a lot but since I gave her Dune as well, I thought I might as well give her Suede for a more neutral duo to balance out the darker shades in Dune. :) I REALLY want Exhibition now though! Ahhh it never stops…:P haha

    • Sunny

Thanks, Becca! YOU GAVE DUNE TO YOUR MOM? You deserve a gold star! I’d never give any of these to anyone! Exhibition is great. It packs a lot of drama, but if you blend it over a neutral base (like Suede) you can get a very nice and smokey look that’s not over the top!

  • http://www.beauty-reflections.com Tracy@Beauty Reflections

I think they are gorgeous neutrals! And the quality is outstanding in my eyes! A win, win!

    • Sunny

Yaay glad to hear you are a member of the subtle neutral eyeshadow appreciation club as well, Tracy!

  • Yolennie

I think this swatches really beautifully. It’s quite subtle and I guess if that’s the look you were going for, it’s quite perfect. :)

    Yolennie

    • Sunny

Thanks Yolennie! Sometimes Suede is really all I need ;)

  • http://procrastinatingpretty.blogspot.com Procrastinator

I don’t know that this one will show up on me, but I’m looking at picking up Gypsy!

    • Sunny

OOOO yeah Gypsy is probably the next on my list! For the moment the darker shade looks a bit warm, but I’m sure I’ll go ahead when the weather gets warmer and I gain a bit of color back on my face ;)

  • http://drivelaboutfrivol.blogspot.com Kate

I love your subtlety week! Such a palette cleanser on my blogroll (yes even I get tired of garish occasionally, lol) Especially love your cheeky little flick set among these tasteful shades.

I reach for my Hourglass Exhibition duo frequently — such a stellar formula. Glad to see someone blogging about their eyeshadows rather than Ambient powders, which I cannot try until March so life is so unfair omg etc.

    • Sunny

Aww tanks, Kate! Exhibition packs so much impact it’s truly amazing! I can’t wait to lay my hands on the Ambient Powders either. I’m just doing my research to figure out which one I want first ;)

  • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com Catherine (@bcrueltyfree)

Pretty! It kind of looks like nars madrague but with shimmer

    • Sunny

Ha I had to Google that one! I need some kind of satin/shimmery finish, because I don’t tend to wear mattes too well (especially not on the inner half of my lids. I really need a bit more “light” there)!

  • http://www.pinklavenders.com Rainy Days & Lattes

Beautiful and understated :) I like your title aptly named your eyes but better =D It looks lovely on you. I appreciate all eye shadows that have quality like the Hourglass ones :)

    • Sunny

Aww thanks Jen! I used to play my eyes up, but now that I’m into bright lip colors, I need shades that will tone them down instead! Hourglass makes absolutely fantastic eyeshadows!

  • http://willworkformakeup.blogspot.com/ Tiffany

This duo looks so subtle and pretty on you, Sunny! Hourglass’ duos have intrigued me ever since Christine from Temptalia raved so much about them, but none of the shades really stood out to me. I wish they’d release more! Your liner looks perfect, by the way :)

    • Sunny

Aww thanks Tiffany! I also hope Hourglass will launch some more duos. My favorite probably remains Dune, and that’s the first one I’d recommend to just about everyone!

  • http://www.bellachique.be/ Teri

This looks like such a great everyday duo! You seem to be really loving them so I might try one in the future as well! ^^

    • Sunny

You should, Teri! These are actually great value since each shade weighs 3 grams!

  • http://mybeautyhoard.blogspot.sg/ Jacqueline

There is beauty in a good nude eye palette and I bet the pigmentation and quality of this is amazing. If you want to wear red or bright lips, I think this would be a great palette. It subtly enhances the eyes.

    • Sunny

Yup that’s what I’ll be using it for most probably :)
