And then the Fairy Godmother Waved Her Wand to Produce Diorshow Iconic Overcurl!

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara

If I were to rewrite the story of Cinderella, the first thing the fairy godmother produces with her wand would be Diorshow Iconic Overcurl. After all, what can be more discreetly seductive than long, voluminous, soft, and fluttery lashes? I got my tube as a gift with purchase a little more than two weeks ago, and it has been incorporated straight into my routine!

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl review

(Also pictured: Diorshow Art Pen that will be reviewed very soon)

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl

I’m going to cut through the technological aspect of the formula and just tell you that Diorshow Iconic Overcurl promises curl and volume. The most special thing is the brush, which supposedly mimics hair and lash-curling tools. I love how the brush “scoops” my lashes up. From what I can remember, the only other brush that has the same “scooping effect” (yes I coined that term) is my sample tube of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara (I have to specify what I owned was a sample tube because the real deal has a different-looking brush). Call it a coincidence, it’s another mascara that can achieve the rare “fluttery” effect.

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl brush closeup

Here you can see a close-up of the brush. I like how fast it can get the job done as well. I remain impressed with Diorshow New Look (it’s wonderful for my non-existent fuzz for bottom lashes), but the tiny brush requires a little more patience.

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl eyeswatch

Ta-da! Here you see my bare lashes (curled), one coat of Diorshow Iconic Overcurl on my upper lashes, and two coats of Diorshow Iconic Overcurl on my upper lashes and one on my bottom ones. The eye swatch was done without my beloved Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum, so things can definitely get even better!

Not only does this baby hold curls like a champion, it volumizes and lengthens well, doesn’t smudge or clump, and can be easily removed (with warm water or just a micellar water). I love how “fluttery” my lashes are with Diorshow Iconic Overcurl. With most mascaras, even if they lengthen and volumize well, my lashes wouldn’t look so natural and fluttery. Instead, they would look more like they had some kind of extension if you know what I mean. With Diorshow Iconic Overcurl however, it just seems like my eyelashes were naturally this soft and fluttery. It gives me lashes I didn’t know I had!

A little tip: if you have just got your tube and think the mascara makes your lashes stick together a little, don’t give up on it. It took mine around a week to 10 days to reach its current consistency which I am more than pleased with. As you can see my lashes aren’t stuck together!

Bottom line: Diorshow Iconic Overcurl has definitely raised my mascara expectations. I have shared many good mascaras with you here (click on the mascara tag to see what other mascaras I have reviewed and looked at the pictures. You’ll know what I mean), but this one truly stands out in the crowd. If you have the opportunity to get a sample tube as gift with purchase, seize your chance and I hope your lashes will flutter as happily as mine!

Have you tried Diorshow Iconic Overcurl or any Dior mascara/lash primer? Are you as impressed?

Ooooh! I love the wands on curling mascaras! They really fit my lashes well! I’m excited to try this now!

    • Sunny

Good to know, Tracy! I hope you’ll give this a try! Keep me posted!

  • http://myfashiontrendencies.com Chris

Ooh another mascara to try! Your lashes look lovely and fluttery. :)

    • Sunny

Yaaay thanks Chris! I’ve been so proud of my lashes if it’s not too vain of a thing to say!

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.wordpress.com Kiss & Make-up

I don’t like this kind of curved brush. For some reason I just never know how to work it… One of my Maybelline mascaras has a similar bush and it just sits there forgotten because of the shape of the brush.

That said, the result of this Diorshow mascara does look very good! I am gonna see if there’s any way to score a sample around here!

    • Sunny

Aww too bad! I understand though. Mascaras are SO personal! I’ve tried one that makes my lashes clump like there’s no tomorrow, but gives my bestie really natural-looking lashes! You should definitely try to score a sample. It has just been launched, so it’s much easier to lay your hands on one now!

    what a difference :D

    • Sunny

Thanks! Without a mascara I have fuzz for lashes :p

  • http://www.chloeash.com Lily (@ChloeAsh)

Oooo I have this!!! And I absolutely love it :-) Curls, volumizes and lengthens too!

    • Sunny

Yesss glad to hear you love it too! Probably the mascara that works the best for me to date!

  • http://wade-ashore.blogspot.com Caise

I am not a biggest fan of this curled brush but I always like to try out new mascaras so probably I’ll be getting it soon:)

    • Sunny

Haha keep me posted about how you like it! I find this a lot easier than a rubber brush. I can’t use those on my bottom lashes AT ALL!

  • http://redhotjillypeppers.com Redhotjillypeppers

The result looks great ! I’m more a fan of volume mascaras. Haven’t tried Dior yet though.

    • Sunny

See if you can lay your hands on a sample of this! It makes my lash SOOOO full!

  • http://www.beautyloves.be BeautyLoves

Haven’t tried it, but it looks like an easy brush to work with! I have used something similar from Max Factor, and that worked well for my eyelashes. Those samples are a nice way to try out a product, too!

    • Sunny

It is an easy brush to work with! It scoops so many of my lashes up in one go, so I think it makes the whole process faster! I love mascara samples! I still have some really good ones sitting around. Can’t wait to get to them!

  • http://www.valleydollbeautyblog.blogspot.com ValleyDoll

    It looks really good !

    • Sunny

It really IS good! My lashes are 3 times as long and full! On top of that they’re actually curly!

  • http://candyandtreats.net Liesbeth (candyandtreats)

Interesting, I’ve never tried such an unusual brush, goes straight to my must try list!

    • Sunny

Hey Liesbeth, definitely try to lay your hands on a mini. I hope the brush will make your lashes full and fluttery as well!

  • http://keepingupwiththekelly.wordpress.com Kelly

I also got a sample of this mascara but I haven’t got around trying it yet. This review makes me really curious, I hope it also works as well on me!

    • Sunny

Oh you should!!! I hope it’ll work just as well for you! Keep me posted!

  • http://mylucitedreams.com Taylor

Sunny I was just debating over this yesterday. They had me at ‘curling’, I’m glad to hear you are loving it, I absolutely have to try it out :-)

    • Sunny

Haha keep me posted about how you like it, Taylor! It has definitely hit it out of the park in my book!

  • lydia

Wow! This looks like a great mascara. How do you think this compares to Chanel Le Volume? It’s my current favorite and I have straight Asian lashes too.

    • Sunny

Hey Lydia, I have actually reviewed Chanel Le Volume (here: http://mostlysunnyblog.com/2013/02/13/volume-length-curl-color-what-cant-chanel-le-volume-de-chanel-mascara-in-bleu-and-prune-do/), but the versions I have are the colored ones. To sum up, Le Volume does give a pretty dramatic effect even with one coat, but it seems to make my lashes stick together a little. I took the tubes out to try again so that I can answer your question as well as I can, but apparently they haven’t dried out enough so not much has changed.

I think the special thing about Diorshow Iconic Overcurl is how fluttery my lashes become. My lashes are sparse, so while most mascaras can lengthen and volumize to a certain degree, very very few of them can make them seem so full. If you do give it a try I’d love to know what you think!

      • lydia

Thanks for your reply! I think I’ll pick up a tube of this pretty soon, your lashes look gorgeous with it on.

        • Sunny

You’re welcome, Lydia! I hope you’ll like it!

  • http://willworkformakeup.blogspot.com/ Tiffany

Sunny, your lashes look amazing here! That’s a pretty awesome gift with purchase if you ask me. That reminds me that I’ve been meaning to try out my mini Dior lash primer…I need to see what all the fuss is about! I want to try the lash plumping serum too now. So many different Dior lash products, I almost can’t keep track ;) And that’s so odd that your sample Hourglass mascara had a different brush. Why would they do that? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of testing out a sample? So frustrating. Great review :)

    • Sunny

Eee thanks Tiffany! You REALLY need to try the Dior lash primer (I think it is the lash plumping serum?)! I’m on my second tube now!

I think the brush really is different. I don’t have a photo (kicking myself for it), but when I see photos of the full-size brush it’s much skinnier and not as scoopy!

  • Paige

I could totally see the progressive curling of your lashes from having no mascara on and up to having two coats on. If I remember correctly, Sephora offered a sample of this a week (or 2-3 weeks) ago. I’m kicking myself now for not grabbing one at the time. Oh well, this looks promising enough that I’m willing to order a full-sized tube to try.

    • Sunny

Aww I’m so sorry to hear you didn’t manage to lay your hands on a mini! If you do get a tube I’d really love to hear what you think! I hope it’ll work just as well for you!

  • http://www.bellachique.be/ Teri

Looks like it really works on your lashes, and I love how it seems to keep the curl! Can’t wait to test mine out!

    • Sunny

I hope you’ll like it too! I went through every mascara post I have written and decided my lashes really look the best with this!

  • http://mybeautysample.com/ Becca @ The Beauty Sample

Ahhh why are you doing this to me?!! I usually am not lured in by the hype surrounding these high-end mascaras. I bought Dior’s cult favorite Diorshow Mascara and I HATED it–it was the gunkiest mascara I had ever tried. Totally not worth the money. But gosh do you have me craving this new one! The brush looks fantastic–as do your lashes! :D

    • Sunny

Ouch, I’m so sorry to hear your experience with Diorshow wasn’t good at all! I haven’t tried that one yet. The other Dior mascara I’ve tried is New Look, and I still love the brush a lot (especially for my bottom lashes)! I think I have another mini lying around, but I can’t remember which one it is now. Well, one thing at a time! I’ll definitely use this up!

  • http://www.strawberryblondebeauty.com/ Nic @Strawbry_Blonde

Wow your lashes look amazing… very tempting!!

    Nic x

    • Sunny

Thanks Nic! This is probably the BEST my lashes have EVER looked!
