L’Occitane is a brand that is known for its scents, and the latest La Collection de Grasse contains four fragrances that will refresh and delight the spirit! Today I have the Magnolia & Mûre (blackberry) Eau de Toilette (75ml/2.5 oz. RRP in Belgium: 55 euros) to share with you, as well as a sneak peek of two new products (including a BB cream) that are coming out in a couple of months’ time!
The idea of L’Occitane La Collection de Grasse is combining two main ingredients from two different regions of the world in each of the four fragrances. Take Magnolia & Mûre for example, magnolia hauls from the Far East while blackberry grows in abundance in the south of France.
The packaging is rather simple and sturdy. I enjoy the no-fuss approach. At the same time the heft makes it distinguished.
As luck would have it, Magnolia & Mûre turned out to be the best out of the four for me. One word: chypre! It is a fruity chypre with the blackberry giving it a sweet element. However, it is not cloying or sticky. The top notes contain bergamot and blackberry, heart notes magnolia and rose, and base notes patchouli and moss.
The eau de toilette starts out slightly tangy yet floral, and then it becomes a good mix of magnolia, blackberry, and rose. It stays easily detectable on the skin for about 3 hours and a half, and afterwards it becomes softer and softer until it’s barely there (I can still smell something on my wrist after 7 hours, but I have to look for it). That is when you get a bit of the patchouli and moss! It definitely lingers for much longer on my hair and clothes, but in that case it sticks more to the heart notes.
I have sniffed all four in the line-up, including Jasmin & Bergamote, Vanille & Narcisse, and Thé Vert & Bigarade. Except for maybe Vanille & Narcisse (it is richer and deeper), the other three are great summery scents. I enjoy how fresh yet sweet Magnolia & Mûre is, and for an eau de toilette it has great lasting power!
PS: For my Belgian readers, from today (24th of April) till the 28th of May, you can get a free shower gel (175 ml. RRP: 11,50 euros) of choice when you purchase a fragrance. If you buy it online, the code is GDGRASSE.
Also, L’Occitane is doing BB creams! If I remember it correctly, the Sublime Beauty Cream will be available in June. There are two shades (light and medium) available. I swatched them for you here:
Both products smell nice and flowery, but I would caution anyone whose skin is sensitive to fragrance to do a patch test first as they do contain quite a bit of it!
Have you tried any fragrances from L’Occitane? I really enjoyed L’Occitane Eau de Vanilliers that came out in 2004. The limited edition, much sought-after fragrance is still the best example of vanilla done right for me!
