I celebrated my 29th birthday last week (a friend kindly reminded me this is my last year as a twenty-something *sharp intake of breath*). The birthday girl’s lipstick of choice? Guerlain Shalimar Rouge Automatique (166)! I had seen it not so long ago on a fellow Lipstick Bandit‘s blog, Rocaille Writes and put it straight on my wish list. As luck would have it, I found this baby in the nice birthday parcel arriving a day before my birthday! Long story short, up on this older girl’s lips it went!
I have reviewed the packaging of Rouge Automatique many times before, so I won’t waste your time here. I did take a few more photos this time because I somehow felt more inspired. I got the card a while ago when I attended the Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Toilette launch. I had a lot of fun stitching the dress up on my way home!
Guerlain Shalimar Rouge Automatique is a bright pink with subtle fuchsia shimmer. The undertone is rather neutral on me, and the shimmer is so subtle that I find it hard to spot on the lips! As other Guerlain Rouge Automatiques I have tried, Shalimar has a nice creamy sheen. It is mostly opaque with one pass, very lightweight, moisturizing, and long-lasting (I get 5-6 hours with food and drinks. It also stains a little).
Here is how Shalimar swatches. Left: one pass. Right: built-up:
A couple more photos to show you how it looks on me!
Guerlain Rouge Automatique is the first lipstick formula I really fell in love with, and even after everything else I have tried, that fact remains unchanged. I am systematically blown away by how easy it goes on, how shiny the finish is, how much pigment it packs, and how moisturizing the formula is on my lips!
Bottom line: Guerlain Shalimar Rouge Automatique is a stunning shade in an excellent formula. It’s bold enough, but at the same time easy to wear. If bright pink is your thing, do check out Shalimar for the coming season!
Do you own a Guerlain Rouge Automatique? Which shade is your favorite?
