I don’t know if you guys know about Cold Stone. I won’t bore you with the details here (the mere thought of it gives me a major sugar high), but instead of calling their portions small, medium, and big like everyone else, this ice cream chain decided to call them “like it,” “love it,” and “gotta have it.” I am of course not here to discuss ice cream today, but Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum‘s new size, a whopping 200ml (6.8 oz. RRP in Belgium: 197 euros), is clearly in the “gotta have it” category for the loyal fans!
A while ago I received this adorable miniature as a teaser, and it was soon joined by its much bigger sister.
(See just how much bigger it is?)
Out of sheer curiosity, I weighed the bottle: it’s a bit more than half a kilo (about one pound)! I have pretty big hands so I can still pick the bottle up comfortably enough. For those whose hands are small however, it might involve a little extra effort. The packaging is very classic and Chanel. I especially love the texture of the cap!
Chanel dubs Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum as a fresh Oriental perfume, but it is more of a floral chypre for me. It has been around since 2001 (12 years now). The top notes include orange (from Sicily) and bergamot (from Calabre). These aren’t too sharp at all, which is great in my book because when citrus notes are too prominent, they forcefully remind me of cleaning products. The heart notes are rose and jasmine absolutes. It is a good blend where nothing is too dominant and it stays feminine and fresh. The base notes get even more interesting with patchouli (from Indonesia), vetiver (from Haiti), Bourbon vanilla, and white musk. Besides being a big fan of three out of the four notes (I am rather neutral about musk notes), I like the balance here. If the vanilla were too strong, it could be really sweet. If the patchouli or vetiver were too strong, it could be really green/earthy. Instead, everything is just very sensual and put-together!
Since this is an eau de parfum, it has some real lasting power. I can still sniff it on myself the next day, as some of it would inevitably get on my hair! In other words, if you spray this on in the morning, you most probably won’t have to worry about it disappearing on you at the end of the day.
While the 200ml bottle is probably not something everyone would get (just so you know though, it definitely works out cheaper by milliliter), why not try Chanel Coco Mademoiselle on next time you are in a perfumery? For me this is a floral chypre with depth, youthful yet classy. If you have a friend who is a fan of the fragrance, this would make a wonderful present she will enjoy for at least a couple of years!
Have you sniffed Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum? Would you buy any perfume in such a big bottle?
