Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows Are Quite a Summer Sensation! Moon River, Jade Shore, Blue Bay, & Black Stream

Chanel Moon River Stylo Eyeshadow FOTD

Your lids are in for a treat this summer with Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows! First impression? They feel like a glass of cold water on the skin! When you see these around, give them a quick swatch because I can guarantee this is something you have never experienced before! After testing them out for some days, I am also glad to report that all in all, this is something I would happily recommend!

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow packaging

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows come in big, pencil-style packaging. It is very solid, and the ring of color at the end makes sure you will be able to grab the right shade when you have more than one of these.

The best part? They have a twist-up mechanism so you will never have to endure the mess and waste of having to sharpen them! I also like the slanted tip quite a bit. I find it much easier to navigate around my inner corners where the space is quite small.

From left to right, the four colors include Moon River (07), Jade Shore (37), Blue Bay (47), and Black Stream (57)

Moon River is my first pick out of the bunch. This light taupe with silver sparkle can be toned down or glammed up. It’s up to you! The great thing with Moon River (or all of these in general) is it’s very light-reflecting, so again with one shade you can create a lot of dimension.

I didn’t pay much attention to Jade Shore when I saw the promo images. Another pastel? I have definitely maxed my pastel quota out in spring! If you’re ready to write Jade Shore off as just another pastel, you have to reconsider. This sparkling jade green actually has a gray tinge to make it look way more sophisticated and grown-up than what I had imagined!

This is how Moon River and Jade Shore swatch. One pass/built up:

Blue Bay is another shade that took me by surprise. Again, this sparkling mid-toned blue has just a bit of something mixed in to make it bright yet rather wearable.

Black Stream is a sparkling charcoal black. All of these are pigmented and opaque, but Black Stream‘s pigmentation level goes straight through the roof!

Here are the swatches of Blue Bay and Black Stream:

The formula of Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows is amazing. I would say they are fairly opaque with one pass, but if I really look there might be a bit of translucency lurking around. It goes on smooth, it’s easy to blend the edges out, and the lasting power is something to write home about. Not all cream/hybrid shadows stay put on me. Some require a primer, others require a primer and pressed shadows on top, and still others will simply not stay put whatever I do. Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows? I’ve tried it with and without a primer for around 11 hours. The edges of the primer-less side was a little faded at the end, but there was no creasing or smudging. The side with the primer was absolutely intact, and it stays better on my lower lash line than many eyeliners I have tried!

The only two minor things I would like to caution you about these is they do set, but they don’t set instantly. I can open your eyes right after I put them on my lids and they won’t crease, but sometimes going over the same area removes a little of the product that was already there. Don’t worry, you can lightly pat the tip on the area and it’ll be good as new! I also find that with a primer this doesn’t happen. The other thing is with the cooling effect, these aren’t the safest thing to use on the waterlines. I have attempted to line my lower lash line and waterline with one of them, and let’s just say Moon River instantly became Cry Me a River.

I have done two looks with these. The first one incorporates all four of them. I have Jade Shore all over my lids, Black Stream along my upper lash line, Moon River in the inner corners, and Blue Bay on my lower lash line. I also layered Blue Note Inimitable Waterproof over regular black mascara. If you look at my right eye (your left) you will spot a hint of blue:

I have Chanel Les Beiges in 30 buffed in all over my face, as well as Envolée Lèvres Scintillantes on my lips.

The second look features Moon River all over my lids, and Black Stream on my lower lash line (smudged with pressed eyeshadows). I used Lime Light Inimitable Waterproof on the tip of my upper lashes (layered over regular black mascara) as well as on my bottom lashes:

For the rest of my face, I have Edward Bess Secret Affair Blush Extraodinare (review coming up soon) on my cheeks, and the bronzer side of Dior Coral Glow as my contouring powder as well as on the high points of my face. For my lips, I lightly dabbed Chanel La Favorite on as a stain before putting Envolée Lèvres Scintillantes in the middle of my lips.

Bottom line: I know what I’ll be sporting often on my lids this summer! Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows are easy to use, function well alone, and have great lasting power. They have a shorter shelf life (good for 6 months after they’re opened), but I would encourage you to swatch them and maybe pick one (or two) up, simply because the formula is perfect for summer!

Have you seen these around? Which shade is your favorite out of these four? Am I the only one who has the Moon River song stuck in her head after seeing this beautiful taupe?

  • Tracy@Beauty Reflections

LOVE them! I got two of them and am really happy with them too! They look great on you Sunny!

    • Sunny

Hey Tracy, I’d love to see the two shades you picked up!

  • Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog

Ah these look very beautiful. I, too, would pick Moon River as my favorites. Jade Shore is gorgeous as well.

    • Sunny

Hey Angela, Moon River is probably the easiest to wear and I don’t think it’ll look bad on anyone!

  • Teri

I’m so happy with Moon River! Jade Shre actually really looks great on you too, I love those pretty shimmers! And yep, these are just great for summer ^^

    • Sunny

If I could only pick one I’d go for Moon River as well! I get such a kick out of the cooling sensation!

  • peggy timmermans

Moon River is so nice! It’s a perfect colour for every day! I love the blue ones…but they don’t suit everyone…although I understand they have taken these colours in a summer collection.

    • Sunny

Hey Peggy, blue is so big this year! I do think it’s possible to find a shade or two, or maybe different ways to use blue to make it work for everyone. However, I understand it’s not something everyone will want to wear on a daily basis!

  • Kiss & Make-up

Moon River is definitely my favorite!

    • Sunny

Hey Melissa, check it out when the collection is available. A sparkling neutral will take you everywhere!

  • beauties

nice colours :) I would go for moon river

    • Sunny

Moon River seems to be many people’s favorite (for a good reason. It is mine too)!

  • Diana

Moon River is totally my thing!

    • Sunny

Hey Diana, Moon River is pretty versatile. I’m so sure it’ll go everywhere with me this summer!

  • Caise

Moon River is gorgeous! I would like to try out these eyeshadows but I really don’t like such shimmery products:-(

and no, you are not the only one… :))) I love this song!

    • Sunny

Hey Daria (I’m getting your name right for once. Yay!), if you don’t like shimmer then these are probably not for you. You can use a matte shade in the crease to tone it down a little, but that’s about it!

  • Icaria

Love Moon River but I wonder if it would be too shimmery for me. With Black Stream it would be a perfect work look. You said it could be toned down, did you mean to more of a satin than shimmer finish?

    • Sunny

Hey girl, Moon River is pretty sparkling, but if you blend a matte shade into the crease it’ll be more work-friendly. I don’t think it’s too much (but then again I’m not scared of sparkle on my lids), but you might want to swatch it first if you don’t wear a lot of shimmer!

      • Icaria

Thanks Luv, I’ll see how it goes when I swatch it.

  • Rabbit

    Your makeup is gorgeous!
I would pick Moon River :)

    • Sunny

Thanks girly! I’m pretty sure Moon River will sell out fast! Everyone seems to love it!

  • Beauty Box

Moon River is my favourite of the lot….so gorgeous!

    • Sunny

It is! It’s one of those colors that just don’t go wrong!

  • Procrastinator

Ooooh Jade Shore is pretty! It’s more mint than I picture for jade, but shockingly wearable!

    • Sunny

I agree! There is a bit of gray in it, so it’s not a very candy pastel type of color. That’s something I have problems pulling off!

  • Undraa

Gorgeous… so going to check them up at the counter. Love the Moon River and Black Stream!!! Yepii by the way, how much do they retail?

    • Sunny

Hey girly, oops I forgot to add the info here! The RRP is 28 euros. I think you get a 10% discount in most stores too!

      • Undraa

Coo,l, I hope it applies to Inno :)

  • Catherine (@bcrueltyfree)

These aren’t shades I usually wear, but they are very pretty. I always feel such an urge of creativity when I see crayon/marker style products… there’s just something about them that’s so fun!

    • Sunny

Hey Catherine, there are two other shades that aren’t showed here, and I wonder if they’ll be more up your alley! I love shadow sticks because they’re just so easy to use (when the formula is good), and you can layer eyeshadows on top to see how they transform!

  • Jasmine

    Black stream looks incredible!

    • Sunny

It’s so super pigmented and smooth! If you do smokey looks often you’ll love it!

  • Angie

Oh these are so gorgeous! I am so excited about this collection! :) I have an appointment this week to see all of it. I can’t wait to see what I pick up. These are definitely on the top of my list – they look so soft and smooth and unique! Thank you for adding the tip about the waterline – I always attempt to stick anything like this in my waterline and my eyes are sensitive so I will know to avoid this! :)

    • Sunny

Hey Angie, I can’t wait to find out what you’ll pick up! You should definitely try at least one of these. The formula is unique and it performs well!

  • ValleyDoll

Ooh I love blue bay !

    • Sunny

I did a look with it today! It’ll be up on the blog along with the nail polishes on Wednesday :)

  • Liz

My favourite Chanel lady showed me these at my favourite Chanel counter and I was sorely tempted. Gah, I wish they were permanent!

    • Sunny

Aww well I’m guessing since the formula gets positive feedback, they might make a comeback next summer! Fingers crossed!

  • Taylor

These sound amazing! I especially love Moon River! It creates a more dramatic look than I thought it would. I will have to swatch these up!

    • Sunny

Hey Taylor, you should definitely swatch these! Moon River is not a loud color, but all the sparkle in there definitely gives it quite a bit of glam!

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

Didn’t think I wanted these but WOW, your swatches…they’re gorgeous! I’m really eyeing that Blue Bay–I don’t usually wear bright blues like that but it’s soooooo pretty! 😀

    • Sunny

Thanks, Becca! I actually did a look with Blue Bay and it’ll be up on the blog tomorrow along with the nail polishes!

  • Shannon @Makeup Magpie

I love both looks you did! I also picked up Jade Shore — even though I don’t wear a lot of greens, I think this one is such a pretty color :)

    • Sunny

Hey Shannon, thanks so much for passing by and leaving a comment! I’d love to see Jade Shore on you! I like green to begin with and I think it’s actually very wearable!

  • Kristen @ Glambunctious

Super pretty!!! LOL @ maxed out your pastel quota!

    • Sunny

Haha sorry but it felt that way! I can make pastels work and it was fun trying to make them work, but I don’t see myself becoming a big pastel person!

  • Claire

:O now I want jade shore even more, what an amazing colour. great swatches sunny and everything looks tempting now 😀 love the looks you did <3

    • Sunny

Aww thanks Claire! You should definitely check Jade Shore out. It’s more wearable than what I had imagined!

  • Ruby

my friend and i fell in love with jade shore and moon river when we swatch them but we are resisting, lol

I personally like the 2nd look you created with moon river.

    • Sunny

Haha well you know you’ll cave in soon, right? 😉

Thanks Ruby! I’ll definitely wear Moon River a lot this summer!

  • VickyM

I love Moon river 😀 such a pretty everyday shade! But I really rarely use eye makeup so I would really have to think about it before I buy. However it really suits you very well and looks really natural on you.

    • Sunny

Aww thanks, Vicky! Moon River has to be my favorite too just because it’s an easygoing neutral!

  • Isabelle

Great review as always Sunny. With my recent infatuation for creamy eyeshadows, this really appeals to me!! The ease of these kind of products is just.. ahhh.. Moon River is really pretty!

    • Sunny

Thanks, Isabelle! You should take a look at Moon River! They’ll be available tomorrow. I know what you mean with being infatuated with cream shadows as well. I’ve been that way for a while ever since I found out there are formulas that will stay put on me!

  • nawi

Hi Sunny how does the chanel jade shore compaire to the Dior mono feather?

    • Sunny

Hey girl, great question! I swatched the two side by side on my hand, and I think Feather is more blue. The finishes are obviously very different, and Jade Shore is more pigmented when actually used. Hope this helps!

      • nawi

Hi Sunny thank you very much it does help now I can justify getting both! Ha, ha

        • Sunny

          Haha good to know 😉
