Your lids are in for a treat this summer with Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows! First impression? They feel like a glass of cold water on the skin! When you see these around, give them a quick swatch because I can guarantee this is something you have never experienced before! After testing them out for some days, I am also glad to report that all in all, this is something I would happily recommend!
Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows come in big, pencil-style packaging. It is very solid, and the ring of color at the end makes sure you will be able to grab the right shade when you have more than one of these.
The best part? They have a twist-up mechanism so you will never have to endure the mess and waste of having to sharpen them! I also like the slanted tip quite a bit. I find it much easier to navigate around my inner corners where the space is quite small.
From left to right, the four colors include Moon River (07), Jade Shore (37), Blue Bay (47), and Black Stream (57)
Moon River is my first pick out of the bunch. This light taupe with silver sparkle can be toned down or glammed up. It’s up to you! The great thing with Moon River (or all of these in general) is it’s very light-reflecting, so again with one shade you can create a lot of dimension.
I didn’t pay much attention to Jade Shore when I saw the promo images. Another pastel? I have definitely maxed my pastel quota out in spring! If you’re ready to write Jade Shore off as just another pastel, you have to reconsider. This sparkling jade green actually has a gray tinge to make it look way more sophisticated and grown-up than what I had imagined!
This is how Moon River and Jade Shore swatch. One pass/built up:
Blue Bay is another shade that took me by surprise. Again, this sparkling mid-toned blue has just a bit of something mixed in to make it bright yet rather wearable.
Black Stream is a sparkling charcoal black. All of these are pigmented and opaque, but Black Stream‘s pigmentation level goes straight through the roof!
Here are the swatches of Blue Bay and Black Stream:
The formula of Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows is amazing. I would say they are fairly opaque with one pass, but if I really look there might be a bit of translucency lurking around. It goes on smooth, it’s easy to blend the edges out, and the lasting power is something to write home about. Not all cream/hybrid shadows stay put on me. Some require a primer, others require a primer and pressed shadows on top, and still others will simply not stay put whatever I do. Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows? I’ve tried it with and without a primer for around 11 hours. The edges of the primer-less side was a little faded at the end, but there was no creasing or smudging. The side with the primer was absolutely intact, and it stays better on my lower lash line than many eyeliners I have tried!
The only two minor things I would like to caution you about these is they do set, but they don’t set instantly. I can open your eyes right after I put them on my lids and they won’t crease, but sometimes going over the same area removes a little of the product that was already there. Don’t worry, you can lightly pat the tip on the area and it’ll be good as new! I also find that with a primer this doesn’t happen. The other thing is with the cooling effect, these aren’t the safest thing to use on the waterlines. I have attempted to line my lower lash line and waterline with one of them, and let’s just say Moon River instantly became Cry Me a River.
I have done two looks with these. The first one incorporates all four of them. I have Jade Shore all over my lids, Black Stream along my upper lash line, Moon River in the inner corners, and Blue Bay on my lower lash line. I also layered Blue Note Inimitable Waterproof over regular black mascara. If you look at my right eye (your left) you will spot a hint of blue:
I have Chanel Les Beiges in 30 buffed in all over my face, as well as Envolée Lèvres Scintillantes on my lips.
The second look features Moon River all over my lids, and Black Stream on my lower lash line (smudged with pressed eyeshadows). I used Lime Light Inimitable Waterproof on the tip of my upper lashes (layered over regular black mascara) as well as on my bottom lashes:
For the rest of my face, I have Edward Bess Secret Affair Blush Extraodinare (review coming up soon) on my cheeks, and the bronzer side of Dior Coral Glow as my contouring powder as well as on the high points of my face. For my lips, I lightly dabbed Chanel La Favorite on as a stain before putting Envolée Lèvres Scintillantes in the middle of my lips.
Bottom line: I know what I’ll be sporting often on my lids this summer! Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows are easy to use, function well alone, and have great lasting power. They have a shorter shelf life (good for 6 months after they’re opened), but I would encourage you to swatch them and maybe pick one (or two) up, simply because the formula is perfect for summer!
Have you seen these around? Which shade is your favorite out of these four? Am I the only one who has the Moon River song stuck in her head after seeing this beautiful taupe?
