Ever since I saw Chanel Taboo Le Vernis (583. RRP in Belgium: 23 euros) in the blogosphere, I had been counting down the days till its release. Let me put it this way: if you have always wondered if luxury nail polishes are “worth the money,” for me this one really is. I own several similar shades (comparisons are included), and I have to say Taboo is not only different but definitely better!
Taboo looks like the galaxy in a bottle with its dark purple base and flecks of violet, red, and silver. The formula is excellent. It is smooth and opaque with one coat, but I prefer two because the flecks show up better that way. If this is not stunning enough for you already, try it with a gel top coat!
Here is two coats of Taboo underneath Dior Gel Coat (which I will review soon):
Since I have always been obsessed with purple nail polishes, I pulled some similar ones out from my stash. Clockwise from left: Zoya Yasmeen, Chanel Taboo, Zoya Jem, and China Glaze Let’s Groove:
From left to right: Zoya Jem, Zoya Yasmeen, Chanel Taboo, and China Glaze Let’s Groove
I would say the base color of China Glaze Let’s Groove is is the most similar out of the three, but Chanel Taboo is darker, and the amazing flecks just hit it out of the park! As a side note, I didn’t use a top coat on any of these. As you can see, the Gel Coat gives Taboo a glossy finish as well as bringing the flecks out better!
The whole galaxy thing reminds me of The Little Prince:
Bottom line: I am unabashedly in love with Chanel Taboo Le Vernis, and if you like beautiful nail polishes, I think you will be as well! As far as I know, Taboo is not limited edition. However, I hope I have managed to get the message through: you need it, and you need it now!
Is Taboo calling your name? What are some of your favorite nail polishes so far this year?
