Have you found your taste in makeup changes over time? Mine certainly has. Or rather, I am obsessed with different things at different times. For the moment, I am fixated on the idea of neutral shades I can wear as a wash on my lids. They have to have a lot of dimension to stand out in my stash, because I own enough neutrals as it is. The undertone has to be rather neutral, because I want to be able to incorporate them into both warm- and cool-toned looks. They can’t be too sparkling, but I need enough shimmer to bring light to my eyes. With all that in mind, I proudly present you my latest discovery: Rouge Bunny Rouge Bohemian Waxwing Long-Lasting Eye Shadow!
Rouge Bunny Rouge (When Birds Are Singing) Long-Lasting Eye Shadows now come in refill pans. Not all shades do, but from what I can see, the line-up does include most of their bestsellers. Rouge Bunny Rouge has duo and trio “keepers,” but this fits in older MAC quads/palettes, and that’s how I store it. It contains a healthy amount of 2 grams (0.071 oz) and goes for 17 euros. All Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows are named after birds, which is a romantic touch true to the brand’s Russian heritage (they definitely have their brand of romanticism up there).
Bohemian Waxwing is described as an iridescent bronzed champagne, but on me it is a shimmery taupe with multi-chrome pearls (I can see some red, silver…). I am sorry for not being able to offer a more precise description, but here is the thing with taupes: they never look the same on two people. I have seen the same shade looking much more cool-toned or bronzed on other bloggers, so it will ultimately come down to your skin and undertone.
Here is how Bohemian Waxwing swatches on me:
What I can tell you for sure, is that quality-wise this shade is best of the best! It is extremely creamy and finely-milled, and the color pay-off is out of this world! It is shimmery enough to bring light into my eyes, but not too shimmery for even the most conventional work place. I am trying not to sound like a fan girl, but the dimension Bohemian Waxwing has is incredible! It seems to ooze magic when I blink or turn my head!
I compared Bohemian Waxwing with some shades in my stash that I thought might be similar. From left to right you can see Burberry Rosewood, Burberry Pale Barley, Rouge Bunny Rouge Bohemian Waxwing, Urban Decay Suspect, and MAC Satin Taupe:
I hope you can see how much more dimension the Burberry ones and Rouge Bunny Rouge Bohemian Waxwing have!
A couple more photos with Bohemian Waxwing on the inner half of my lids:
See how it glows? For the rest of my face, I have Bobbi Brown Wheat on the outer half of my lids, Rouge Bunny Rouge Orpheline on my cheeks, and Dior Diablotine Addict Gloss on my lips.
Bottom line: For the incredible dimension, buttery texture, and excellent color pay-off, Rouge Bunny Rouge Bohemian Waxwing Long-Lasting Eye Shadow is definitely a keeper! If you like taupes, or good neutrals in general, I would encourage you to do some research about this one. It might end up looking different on your skin tone, but you will most probably fall in love with it!
What do you think? Too plain for you or right up your alley? What kind of makeup are you obsessed with right now?
