NEW from MAC: Sweet Grenadine Sheen Supreme Lipstick

MAC Sweet Grenadine FOTD

In general, I have a preference for creamy and very pigmented lipsticks. However, when the summer heat strikes, wearing something along that line becomes an unbearable idea. MAC has some good new solutions for this problem! The So Supreme Collection includes 6 Sheen Supreme Lipsticks and 8 Sheen Supreme Lipglass Tints this year. Today I’m showing you Sweet Grenadine Sheen Supreme Lipstick!

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick packaging

I personally prefer the packaging of MAC Sheen Supreme Lipsticks to the one of the regular line. It’s glossy and rather hefty. As a matter of fact, it reminds me quite a bit of Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colors!

MAC Sweet Grenadine Sheen Supreme Lipstick

Sweet Grenadine is one of this year’s hottest lip colors, a bright orange. It’s not so bright that it falls into the neon category, but it is definitely not a very tame shade!

The formula is very lightweight and buttery. It truly melts onto the lips with a smooth and glossy finish! It’s a lipstick that applies very easily, but it does pack quite a bit of pigment! It does seem sheerer than the original Sheen Supreme Lipsticks from what I can see, but it offers decent coverage and color.

Left: one swipe. Right: built up.

MAC Sweet Grenadine Sheen Supreme Lipstick swatch

Sweet Grenadine holds up for around 3 hours on my lips. A meal will finish it off, but it will survive a couple of drinks. The best part? It’s moisturizing!

Here I’m wearing one swipe of Sweet Grenadine:

I have Chanel Convoitise Illusion d’Ombre, Bobbi Brown Sable, and Dior Aqua Green on my eyes, as well as Dior Bikini Diorblush Cheek Creme on my cheeks.

MAC Sheen Supreme 2013 review

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a great summer lipstick, take a look at MAC Sweet Grenadine Sheen Supreme Lipstick! It’s a great way to ease into wearing bright orange. The lightweight, glossy finish as well as moisturization makes it great for warmer weather!

Random question: do you guys wear makeup to the airport? As a general rule I don’t, but I needed to get these photos done before catching my flight to Taipei. I removed it after dinner was served, and all in all the experience wasn’t bad. Still, I don’t think I’ll make a habit of wearing makeup to the airport. I was a little paranoid about not having cleaned my face properly (I used Bioderma, because everything else requires a lot of water and effort)!

Mostly Sunny disclosure

  • Chris El

    Orange looks amazing on you!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Chris! I don’t think I own a full-on orange yet!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

I love MAC Sheen Supremes actually! They feel really good on.
I wear makeup to my destination on the plane-not a lot of eyeshadow though. On my way home I don’t. But I never take flights any longer than 3 hours. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, I can probably wear makeup on the plane if it’s just 3 hours, but for long-haul flights I practically look like I’m ready to hit the sack 😉

  • Kiss & Make-up

Oh it doesn’t look too orange on you at all. I guess it’s because of the sheerness of it. I like it!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Melissa, I think it looks more orange in real life! I am not as obsessed with orange, so it’s a good one for me (less intimidating)!

  • Anna Lajourdie

I’m never seen in public without make up. My staples are concealer, pressed powder, brow powder, mascara and lip gloss.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Anna, the only thing i

      • Anna Lajourdie

Ok, if I had to narrow it down it would be in this order. Mascara, lip gloss, brow filler 😉 I feel “naked” without these!!

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha I wear glasses most of the time (I’m worried about contact lenses drying my eyes out on the plane), so I kinda skip eye makeup! A brow filler is indispensable for me though!

  • Carina

Ahhhh this looks so pretty on you, Sunny! I’m sure it would look like I rubbed a Cheeto all over my mouth if I wore this shade. So beautiful. :)

I do wear makeup to the airport but usually if it’s only a short flight. :) If it’s a long flight, I don’t really even bother.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Carina! I don’t think so really! I don’t see a lot of yellow in this one if you know what I mean!

  • Icaria

Oh the presentation of these is so much more elegant then their regular line which I’m not a fan of, I have one but rarely take it out because of that.

I do wear makeup but it’s quite minimal. Concealer, liner, mascara, bronzer and tinted lip balm. If I don’t, I feel like looking at a stranger when looking in the mirror. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

The packaging is pretty much identical to that of Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color! Nice and hefty!

So how do you remove it on the plane? Or do you almost never take long-haul flights?

      • Icaria

Less than 3 hours I don’t bother but years ago for my Australia trip I used baby wipes. In those days I wore only blush with a little eye makeup. On my next one I’ll likely have a small micellar water in my bag. :)

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah micellar water is a great idea!

  • Claire

beautiful! I recently got some MAC products, so unusual for me, haha. I really like the eye makeup as well :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Claire, I can’t wait to see what you got! I do my eyes like this often when it’s warm.

  • Catherine

omgomg I’m dying over your cat plate. ADORABLE. I have a sheen supreme lipstick, in Bare Again… long ago, there was this slimshine in Bare that I loved, then when that got discontinued and MAC came out with this, I hoped Bare Again would be a replacement, but I preferred the slimshine. This is a very “you” color, Sunny :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha my bestie gave it to me! I love it too!

It must be sad when a favorite is discontinued. I haven’t had that happen to me, but I’d totally cry if Dior Spring Ball gets discontinued for example!

  • Larie

Pretty! I’ve sort of given up on MAC lipsticks, though I still do have a few favorites. I like the juiciness of this shade, though!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Larie! I like Sweet Grenadine, and I do intend to try one of the Mineralize Rich Lipsticks at some point. Other than that I don’t feel compelled to collect MAC lipsticks.

  • Sofia

I have one of these and I adore texture!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Sweet Grenadine actually looks like one of the sheerest ones in the range from what I can see, but the texture is pretty good. I’ll need to check some more out just to see how they are in general.

  • Liz

Thinking of getting this but it reminds me of Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti. Hrm.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, I haven’t tried that one so I can’t really compare. It might stay put better though.

  • Whitney

Oo pretty. I really want to try a mac lipstick, but I get too intimidated when I go into a mac store! The orange one I use is smashbox melondrama because it’s not too clowny orange. For long flights, such as to Hong Kong or Europe; the only makeup I wear to an airport is lip balm/lip tint/lip gloss! I do carry Olay makeup wipes with me, to remove oil and dirt on my face and make it moisturized while on the plane! Last time when I flew from vancouver to vegas (several hours of flight) I had eyeliner on.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Whitney, I get SO overwhelmed in a MAC store LOL I’d definitely love to check out other Sheen Supreme Lipsticks though!

I usually just do my brows and call it a day. Makeup does tend to hold up well on the plane though!

  • Caise

that’s totaly not my shade but I’m surprised how lovely it looks on you!

I always wear foundation to the airport because bb creams don’t last on me that long and I don’t like to look shiny and red:)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Daria! This is my first orange lipstick!

So how do you remove everything? I’m too lazy to go through the whole cleansing ritual on the plane, but I am paranoid about using just a micellar water.

      • Caise

I am paranoid about using cleansing wipes and I don’t travel that much so I just use micellar water

  • Man Yee Lau

This looks gorgeous! I was in the search for a more orange lippie and BANG! this appeared! Is it already available in the MAC shop? Otherwise I will get it in HK next month! 😀

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Man Yee, it will be available in Belgium on August 3rd, so not long to go now! When are you going to HK? 😉

      • Man Yee Lau

Then I will get it in HK. I am travelling there on the 6th of august. ^^ shooooopping! :p and a bit of tourism.

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh wheeee have fun, Man Yee!

  • Bella

I love your necklace, where is it from?

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Bella, it’s from Tiffany! My boyfriend gave it to me for my birthday 2 years ago 😉

  • Lisa @ MidwestGlam

It does look really pretty on you, but I don’t think I could personally pull it off. I am curious about those lipglass tints though.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Lisa! I’m curious about those too! They seem to have a really thin consistency but they’re more pigmented than what I had imagined!

  • LifeOfBun

Beautiful shade but I have to say – that kitty plate just beats it all. Haha! Lovely :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Anouchka! Kinda wish I had a whole bunch of plates that are so cute 😉

  • VickyM

This lipstick looks great on you, I do like orange but a little bit pinker, if it is full on orange I don´t like it on me. I have traveled many times and I do wear makeup to the airport always, just some concealer on under eye dark circles, black mascara and a bold lipstick. I like bold colors since they stay longer and through lengthy flight hours, if needed I reapply them after a while. I don´t wear blush, or other makeup since it would just wear off or become a mess.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Vicky! I actually find makeup lasting pretty well during air travel. I suppose the controlled temperature and lower humidity help!

  • MyLuciteDreams

The kitty plate! Yu wear this shade well. It’s quite intimidating in the tube and very orange in the swatch but mixed with the pink of your lips it lovely!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha thanks, Taylor! It’s not a very full-on type of lipstick. You should give it a go!

  • Jacqueline Ma

That is a pretty pretty lipstick and it looks so lovely on you Sunny.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Thanks, Jacqueline!

  • LiptickBoulevards

it looks lovely on you ;D

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      • LiptickBoulevards

  • Jenni @ lifeandlensofbeauty

am surprised how sheer it swatches to be :) it looks bam! Bright in the tube!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenni, I’d say it’s more pigmented than I expected it to be. MAC intended to make these “sheerer than ever!”

  • Claire

I really like how it looks on your lips Sunny, I also love the eye makeup, I have to take out my Chanel Convoitise, great shade for all year round xxx

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Claire! The best thing about the eye makeup is it’s so simple and fast! A light wash of gold is great for summer!

  • Kristen / Glambunctious

This looks great on you! Orange is not a shade that looks good on me unless it’s more pink than orange. You can definitely pull this off beautifully! I always wear makeup to the airport; I’ve never thought of not wearing it there! I guess if I was going on a super long flight where sleeping would be involved, I would skip it.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Kristen! I don’t think I’ve tried a more full-on orange, though I have tried orange-reds and those are fine on me! I almost always take long-haul flights, and I tend to sleep a lot on the plane, so most of the time I don’t wear any makeup. Except for my brow filler!

  • Isabelle

This looks so pretty on you! It’s not overly orange on your lips, which I love! :)
I don’t wear make-up when traveling, even when it’s in a car instead of an air plane! Sure I’ll wear make-up for a two hour Eurostar or Thalys ride, but anything that takes half a day.. I’ll just be sure to moisturize well.

I love that cat tray by the way! So cute & so you :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Thanks, Isabelle!

Same here. If it’s just a couple of hours and I have an action-packed day ahead, I’d probably make an effort to put on some makeup. Otherwise not really!
