Enjoy the Sun with Clinique!

Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Cream

Summer is all about enjoying some sunshine (sunny days are few and far between where I live), and taking care of your skin will guarantee some healthy color without the unpleasant damage. I’ve been using a few Clinique body products this summer for this purpose, including Clinique Sun Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Body CreamAfter-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe, and Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Cream.

Clinique Sun Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Body Cream, After-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe

Clinique Sun Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Body Cream boasts “SolarSmart” technology. Besides shielding the skin against UVA and UVB, it is supposed to trigger the skin’s repair mechanism to prevent signs of aging. It also packs antioxidants, and I don’t have to tell you it’s always good to slather some of those on!

The texture is reasonably thick for something that has an SPF 30, but it’s not too heavy or greasy. I used it every day when I was in Taipei, and it’s not uncomfortable at all even in that kind of humidity. I can’t comment on how the antioxidants work, but I gained color slowly and I never got burnt!

The After-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe is a lightweight body lotion. It is supposed to sooth the skin after sun exposure. In general, this is a lightweight gel that hydrates the skin well. It feels like the gel melts onto the skin, and it is somehow cooling. It has the typical “Clinique” smell (it doesn’t contain fragrance, so it smells like the ingredients. Still, if you are familiar with Clinique skincare products, you probably know the smell I’m talking about). Great for a beach/tropical holiday!

Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Cream content

Last but not least, we have Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Cream. It contains polyethylene (plastic) beads, so it is not one of the salt/sugar scrubs that I normally use. Here’s the thing: there is a good dose of menthol in this scrub, and it is incredibly cooling. I tried it for the first time on a really warm day, and I was so happy the cooling sensation lasted for a good quarter of an hour after I got out of the shower!

However, I know full well that menthol is an irritant, and this scrub will not work for everyone. If your skin is on the sensitive side, you might have to tread carefully. It cleanses and scrubs well, but this is not the mildest body scrub you can find.

Have you tried any of these? What’s your go-to sunscreen this summer?

Yes! A lot of menthol! When i first used it i was going like ‘aweeee’ because i didn’t read what was in it first but i most say, i do like it!

Hahaha I was so surprised too, but it was a 30-degree day and I had to blow dry my hair afterwards, so I fully enjoyed the mint!

  • beauties

haven’t tried anything from clinique yet :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Really? I got to know the brand when I was in high school, but maybe it has been more popular in the USA/Asia?

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Strange that Clinique would come with a scrub that contains an irritating agent… But luckily my skin can tolerate quite a bit, so I might check it out anyway.

Hey Melissa, this irritant thing is pretty personal though. For example, some people can’t have any lavender oil in their skin care, but mine is fine! The skin on my body isn’t too fussy, and when it’s 30 degrees outside, I welcome the menthol ;)

  • Icaria

What, no kitty belly? :) Loooove that body scrub! Like you said, on a hot day it’s so refreshing. For body I have no issues with menthol and this has always been around for like, forever. I revisit often. That cooling gel I should try next summer. Must be nice too on a hot day. This summer I haven’t used ss much, always in the gazebo but when I did it was mostly La Roche Posay. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha no, that’s the bonus photo you get on Facebook and Twitter (OK fine. The truth is I took the kitty photo after I finished writing the post, and I was too lazy to edit it)! I’ll definitely try a sunscreen from La Roche Posay next summer! I really like the Effaclar range, and I need to try more from the brand :)

My body sunscreen this summer has been Mustela, and we’re also using up bits of other mineral sunscreens that we’ve had around. We’ve been trying to move into mineral sunscreens only, and I’m happy that now there are more options!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

I’ve heard great things about Mustela! It’s so easily available here. I just never looked into it because it looks like a “baby brand” to me. Now I need to take a look!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

I love menthol in body products! It’s so cooling and refreshing. As long as it’s not near my face haha! Clinique makes such great products-ya gotta love em!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, oh I don’t think it’s a good idea to put menthol on your face :p

  • Lily

I remember the days when I missed the sun, and how I got happier just by seeing the rays through the clouds! Not here though. It’s hot and sunny every day, and sometimes it’s too hot to handle. LOL! Surprisingly, many people here do not apply sunscreen on their body. I wonder why…

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

They don’t? Girls in Taiwan are mostly very diligent about sunscreens, or at least that’s the impression I get from commercials and so on.

  • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

I used to use the clinique sunscreen that came in a green tube! I hope the exfoliating cream is in Canada :O I love exfoliating products for the body, and I’m a huge fan of menthol and all things cooling and minty; my parents call me a grandma!

My go to sunscreen is neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch sunscreen, la roche posay anthelios, and I had a sample tube of Dior snow white reveal UV Shield!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Whitney, I think I did that too! You should check to see if it’s available. It’s not an expensive product, and the tub is huge!

I don’t think we get that many Neutrogena products here, unfortunately. I’ve been meaning to get into La Roche Posay/Vichy sunscreens tho. Perhaps next summer!

  • Krystle Kouture

I love Clinique’s skincare line (stay matte hydrator and city block). But I’ve never seen that body cream. I’m never used anything besides sugar scrubs to exfoliate so I’d love to try this!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Krystle, I personally prefer sugar/salt scrubs, but I get a real kick out of the menthol in this one LOL

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I always meant to get into Clinique’s body care – mostly because I have an affinity for those big tubs. :) It’s hot here this week and all that menthol sounds like heaven!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, oh that menthol saved my life! I’m hoping it won’t ever reach 30 degrees here this summer, but if it does I’m jumping into the shower with this tub!
