Remember the craze MAC RiRi Woo stirred up several months ago? It was sold out within hours everywhere, leaving many heartbroken. Fear not, my friends, because it’s coming back with the RiRi Hearts MAC Fall Collection! Here in Belgium, it will be available both online and on the counters tomorrow (October 5th. 20 euros). Let’s take a quick look to help you make up your mind!
MAC RiRi Woo Retro Matte Lipstick comes in a reflective rose gold packaging with Rihanna’s autograph. It feels lighter than regular MAC lipsticks, but it has the signature light vanilla scent all the same. The autograph is also engraved on the bullet.
MAC RiRi Woo Retro Matte Lipstick is a very cool-toned red with a very matte finish. It is extremely pigmented, and the texture is pretty dry and stiff. When I swatched it for the first time, I was very surprised about the texture (most probably because I had not tried anything so matte, or anything from MAC‘s Retro Matte line). It is not very practical to apply this straight out of the bullet, so you might need some help from a lip brush.
Since the texture is stiff and very pigmented, you need a little patience to pick up the color with a lip brush and trace your lip lines. However, it is precisely because of the texture that RiRi Woo will never ever stray out of your natural lip lines (no lipstick on teeth)! It feels slightly “powdery” on the lips, but not in a bad way. On me, RiRi Woo lasts for 6-7 hours after a full meal and multiple drinks, leaving behind a light stain.
Here is how RiRi Woo swatches. Left: one pass. Right: built up.
Here is how RiRi Woo looks on me:
I’m actually very amazed that such a texture doesn’t actually look dry on the lips, and it is not drying, either. After 6-7 hours, my lips might be very slightly drier than they were before, but that’s about it. The finish is so matte and bold that it practically screams “LOOK AT ME!”
Bottom line: If you want a very matte, cool-toned red lipstick, check out MAC RiRi Woo Retro Matte Lipstick. It might require a little work to put it on, but it is not drying (on me) and it stays in place perfectly well!
Have you tried anything from MAC‘s Retro Matte finish? How about a very matte lipstick? Are you grabbing RiRi Woo, or do you already own it?
