Pursuit of an “Autumn” Blush: Bobbi Brown Plum Blush

Bobbi Brown Plum (5) Blush FOTD

I have not learnt to truly appreciate blushes until very recently, which might explain why there isn’t much variety in my stash. In pursuit of something I didn’t already own and an “autumn” blush, I got Bobbi Brown Plum Blush. The verdict? I think I could use some more plummy pinks in my collection!

Bobbi Brown Plum (5) Blush

Bobbi Brown Blushes contain 3.7 grams (0.13 oz) and go for 28 euros here. The clear-top packaging is simple and practical.

Bobbi Brown Plum 5 Blush

Plum (5) is a matte plummy pink. When it is blended-out, I see more pink. However, it is also possible to build it up and make it look as intense as it does in pan!

Bobbi Brown Plum Blush (5) closeup

Plum is finely-milled without being powdery, and it is easy to pick up enough color without kicking up any excess. While Plum is not one of the blushes that practically blend itself out, it is not tricky, either. It pretty much stays put all day, which is a big bonus!

If you are around my skin tone (NC 25) or fairer, you might want to use a light hand. Otherwise, it could be difficult to achieve a natural-looking result. I actually think Plum would look delicious on people whose skin tone is medium and above, since it’s a brightening shade that shows up easily!

Here is how Plum swatches. Left: built up. Right: blended out.

You have seen Plum on me in this look:

Bottom line: All in all, Bobbi Brown Plum Blush is a fairly good blush. If for nothing else, I like the plummy pink that both freshens my complexion as well as adding a touch of “autumn” to it. The formula is decent, though not the best I have tried (it’s hard to explain, but it doesn’t “melt into” the skin the way some blushes do). However, the great lasting power probably means I’ll reach for it often enough!

Do you have a plummy blush? If so, is there anything you would recommend? What is your go-to autumn blush?

SO pretty!!! It’s a gorgeous colour on you! I wish I could wear plummy blushes easier-they are so hard when you’re fair. You can really look like a crazy person if you’re not careful-which I AM of course, but I don’t want to look like that old lady who plays bingo all day wearing too much blush-YET. hahahaha! You need to get more for sure! Like NARS Sin! That’s a great one!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Tracy! LOL you made me laugh, and now I have to look into NARS Sin! I already need to use a light hand with this one, so I think you might even need a fan brush ;)

  • Marijke

Pretty!! I love the Pink Coral Blush!!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Marijke! This one is not as powdery as Pink Coral. It’s much more pigmented but a little less blendable. Still, it’s pretty easy to wear!

  • Lily

This looks great on you, Sunny :-) I don’t have enough plum blushes in my stash.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Lily! I’ll have to start looking around for more as well ;)

  • corallista

Beautiful on you! Sadly there isn’t really an Autumn/Fall season where I stay. In fact, its very hot in Mumbai right now. I wish there was more seasonal change so that I could change my look accordingly!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Ankita, I get you! Back in Taipei there was some sort of season, but it could get pretty warm all of a sudden ;) Still, you can try to incorporate some seasonal shades in your looks!

such a beautiful plum blush!! it looks gorgeous on you, Sunny!
I have few plum blushes , love them esp for fall and winter. :))

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Pamela! I agree: plums are great for the season!

  • beauties

    i don’t have plum blushes :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You should give it a go, Eva! Maybe it’ll work so well that you’ll start collecting a whole bunch :)

  • Chris El

I just realized that I don’t own any plummy blushes. Will definitely try this next time I’m at a BB counter.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Chris, I think Plum will look lovely on your skin tone!

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Nope, I don’t have anything plum in my blush collection. I always go for pinks, peachy pinks or corals. And while this blush definitely doesn’t look bad, I am still not drawn to it.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Melissa, that sounds like the grand majority of my collection LOL I like some variety. Plus my new blushes are allowing me to rediscover some berry lipsticks I have in my stash!

  • Jacqueline Ma

I can’t do plums, I tend to stick to peach and coral because those look the most natural on me. This gives you a just out from the cold look, very pretty.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Jacqueline! I think I can do some cooler shades, but I suppose there is a limit somewhere!

  • http://www.lenallure.com L e n a

i have a few but nothing like this. this looks very rich and complex. looks beautiful with your lipstick color. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lena, I love plum on you! It works really well for your skin tone :)

  • peggy timmermans

It goes very well on you, i love a nice plummy pink, I don’t find this a plum coulour, more an in between one.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Peggy! Indeed this is not as plummy as a blush can go. I like it because it’s easing me into the world of plums ;)

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

I’ve never tried a BB blush, although there are a few times I”ve been tempted. There is a really deep wine colored one that was released for fall that I really like, but I’m not sure how often I’d wear it, lol!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Larie, ooo you mean Berry! That one is in the scary pigmented category for me and I am a real wimp. I bet you can rock it though! If you tread lightly it’s actually pretty natural!

  • Bella

Very pretty blush! What lipstick are you wearing? As far as plum blushes go I only really have Mac Plum Foolery. It’s a relic from many years ago, I seldom wear any Mac products any more. Red berries I have Nars Seduction, Purple berries Nars Sin and Nars Oasis.Closest I have to plum in a powder blush.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks Bella! I’m wearing Giorgio Armani Diva Rouge Ecstasy (reviewed that one a couple of posts down in case you are interested)! I need to check the NARS ones out! People keep recommending them!

      • Bella

You should. It’s really hard to describe what makes them so perfect. they just seem to melt with your skin, with your undertone in a way.Well, with mine anyway, I’m really yellow with tan. The texture and pigmentation are perfect. Actually, they should pay me for my devotion ;).

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha I’m beginning to think they really should!

  • Dominique33

I have a true plum blush, Chanel Plum Attraction !

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Dominique, that one looks SO dramatic! I kinda wonder how it’ll look on my skin tone!

      • Dominique33

It’s a beautiful colour Sunny, I am NW20 just in case. Just a touch of Plum Attraction is enough though, the plum colour is quite intense. But it’s a Chanel blush, so…. :)

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

Love this one! Definitely a good one to have for fall and suitable for a wide range of complexions. I think it’s even okay to overapply a little on lighter skin tones — looks windswept and dramatic. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, I always have to overapply blushes for them to show up in photos, but in real life I’m still not all that comfortable doing it LOL I need more practice!

  • Natalie

This blush looks beautiful on you! My favorite pink/plum blush is NARS Sin, its so pretty.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Natalie! Thanks for the recommendation, too! I need to check that one out!

  • rachlovespenguins

That’s really pretty! I think I need to expand my blush horizons. All of mine are coral. Not that coral is a bad thing though…. ;)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh no it definitely isn’t! I’m just happy that I can now rock plum and berry lipsticks the way they should be worn ;)

  • Krystle Kouture

Really pretty although it looks way lighter in pan!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Krystle, I built it up on my cheeks just so that it’d show!

  • Icaria

Oooh I’m not sure but I think I have a similar shade from M.A.C. This is a very pretty shade and you wear it well! Hmm I might take mine out this weekend and see… :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, I’d love to hear what you think after you rediscover your plummy pink!

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Very pretty for autumn! I do like these colours for autumn, as I loose my tan now and coral (or anything orange) now begins to look weird on me unfortunately…. I was thinking about chekcing this out and it seems cute, it looks great on you!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Sofia! I’m beginning to have the same problem *sad kitty face* I find that pink-leaning corals still work, but I’m slowly switching to plums and berries :)

      • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Just an update here Sunny: I went to the Bobbi Brown counter today and somehow ended up buying the berry blush. Its plummy red! Lets see what comes out of this because its madly pigmented, and I love blush so I don’t usually apply it lightly…

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

OOO thanks for the update, Sofia! I hope you’ll make it work! You’re not too too fair so I think you’ll be fine. Just use a light hand :)

          • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

I wore it today – with a painfully light hand. I love it! :)

          • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

LOL yaaaay I’m glad to hear that! I keep thinking I should invest in a fan brush so that I will be less hesitant about pigmented blushes ;)

  • http://www.glambunctious.com/ Kristen / Glambunctious

I’m so excited that your beauty love has extended into blushes recently! As a blushaholic, I say WELCOME! ;) This is a beautiful color. My favorite fall blushes are Tarte Exposed (hell, this is a beautiful neutral blush no matter the season!), Nars Sin, MAC Plumfoolery (powder), and MAC Britwit (cremeblend). I just ordered Tarte Natural Beauty, which looks shockingly red in the pan, but gives a beautiful natural just-in-from-the-cold flush. I think it’s going to be a big player in my winter makeup stash! :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Whee I know! I really need to look into NARS blushes. I can’t believe I still haven’t tried one! I need to re-try my Tarte ones as well. I loved them in the beginning, but they oxidized badly during my trip to Taipei a couple of years ago, so they have been shunned. They probably deserve a second chance!

  • http://willworkformakeup.blogspot.com/ Tiffany

Plum looks like a great fall shade without being too dark or scary. I only have one Bobbi Brown blush, but I’ve heard that the formula isn’t consistent and can be hit or miss :-/

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tiffany, the one you have is SO SO pigmented! I only own two so I can’t say too much about consistency, because any of the two can be an exception. I suppose some research and swatch will always go a long way!
