A Solid Lighweight Moisturizer with Calming Benefits: Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator

Kiehl's Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator

What do you do when you are stressed? I make an herbal infusion, hug a kitty (maximize the result by making the kitty purr. It has been proven to lower blood pressure), or catch an episode of something funny (like The Big Bang Theory. Man, that show is hilarious!). What do you do when your skin is stressed? My new answer is Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer Stress Minimizing Daily Hydrator. I’ve had both hits and misses with Kiehl’s, so I don’t really know what to expect when it comes to this brand. Fortunately, this time it’s a happy ending!

Kiehl's Skin Rescuer pump

In short, Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer (75ml/2.5 oz will set you back 35 euros in Belgium) is a solid lightweight moisturizer with calming benefits. It comes in no-muss no-fuss packaging with a pump, and there is a guard on the pump. Just in case you want to throw the bottle in your luggage, the guard will minimize the chance of a lotion explosion.

Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer is unscented. The texture feels lightly creamy when it is pumped out, but it can be easily spread and absorbed by the skin. It is not a heavy lotion, so it will depend on your skin type whether you can use it alone, as well as if it will make a good day/night cream. Usually I layer this over a serum in the morning, and at night it is a serum, a dry oil, and then this lotion. It hydrates and protects well without much grease, which is something most will favor.

Besides keeping my skin hydrated and healthy, Kiehl’s Skin Rescurer has kept it calmer than usual. Redness is not usually one of my main concerns, but my skin could act up due to hormones, fatigue, and seasonal changes. In those situations, my skin becomes uneven- and tired-looking. On top of that, a lot of products that usually work well could end up doing nothing or even being slightly irritating.

Ever since I started using Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer, I have noticed less episodes of these angry outbursts. I’m not saying it eliminates them (hormones are a powerful thing, my friend), but when my skin starts flaring up, I minimize my skincare routine and fall back on this lotion. Usually the situation improves fast enough. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I haven’t had one of those nightmarish allergy episodes this season. Perhaps this has helped as well!

Bottom line: Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator is not exactly a miracle worker, but particularly if your skin is on the sensitive side, you might appreciate the calming benefits it provides. It is a solid, basic moisturizer I know I can rely on. Depending on your skin type, you can layer other products beneath it to achieve the desired amount of moisturization. On its own, it is lightweight and pleasant to use.

Oh this was in my buy list until you showed the ingredients. Unfortunately capric triglyceride doesn’t work well on my face, it’s one of the key ingredients of coconut oil – which clogs the hell out of me :( Though I like Kiehls, as you mentioned it’s a hit or miss brand for me too but right now I’m enjoying their hair products: Amino acid conditioner and Olive oil leave in conditioner. They are a bit expensive but works good on my hair!

Hey Daria, aww I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s good that you know though! Better that than buying it and having it break you out! I have the olive oil leave-in conditioner as well. I think I have maybe one more use left in the bottle!

I have never tried Kiehl’s. I am pretty set in my skincare ways…I used to use Sisley for 5 years and now I’m onto Murad cleansers and La Mer creams (I am, shall we say, no longer in my twenties). When my skin is stressed it is usually a sign that I need to moisturise better. My skin is pretty oily, but in the colder months it can become dehydrated, and then I temporarily use a richer moisturiser (La Mer the Moisturing Soft Cream instead of the lotion). I may also use a moisturising serum underneath. And furthermore, I minimise makeup changes during those times.

Hey Bella, Kiehl’s has a lot of “miss” and “meh” products for me, but I definitely see myself finishing this one (it’s in Taipei with me for the moment). I have tried very little to nothing from the brands you mentioned! I also agree that less makeup is the way to go when your skin is acting up!

  • beauties

I haven’t tried any kiehl’s products yet :) when my skin gets angry I just get sad xD

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh nooo you’ve got to DO something about it! :p

  • Icaria

Creme de Corps, Avocado Eye Cream and a lip gloss are all I’ve tried from Kiehl’s which I find a little on the expensive side. When my skin isn’t happy or needs more I turn to Nuxe Crème Fraîche, feels so “fresh” and soothing, love it!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, I didn’t even know they make glosses! I also use the Caudalie Sorbet for the same purpose ;)

      • Icaria

They do. I think they have 6 different colors. A little sticky but I like that it has moisturizing properties and it tastes like berries. :)

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You know glosses are not food, right? LOL

  • peggy timmermans

Hmmm… maybe this would have been good for me a week ago. Sounds goud anyway!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah you can use it even when your skin isn’t going crazy, as a preventive measure ;)

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Hah! I do the same things when feeling stressed :-) Except that I don’t have a cat, so I just cuddle the boyfriend and try to make him purr. As for this Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer, sounds like something my skin could use.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

LOL how does that work for you? Hehe

It’s good even when your skin is not freaking out! Nothing goes wrong when it’s well-hydrated.

  • TracyBeautyReflections

I want this! I need some more redness reducers for sure!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, see if you can get a sample packet or two! I hope it helps :)

  • LifeOfBun

Awwww doing a kittty purr :3 you’re too cute Sunny! Redness is such an issue during winter, and flaky skin, bah! Need me a remedy.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha it’s SO soothing when they purr! See if you can get a sample packet or two of this one! I hope you’ll find something that works for you!

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

Interesting! I’m starting to see squalane a lot in products. Still haven’t tried a Kiehl’s but this sounds great.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, this is one of the better Kiehl’s products I have tried. If you ever need any redness control, see if you can try a sample packet or two!

  • http://beautyandtheeyeliner.wordpress.com/ Natalie

Hi Sunny, hormones are powerful! Its awesome that this helps, I have a lot of redness, I might have to give this a try.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natalie, yeah hormones are a crazy and powerful thing! Kiehl’s is generous with samples, so see if you can lay your hands on a sample packet or two!

  • Lily

I haven’t tried much of Kiehl’s products and when I walk past their store, I don’t feel like going in either. I have no idea why. LOL! Sounds like a good one, but I’m enjoying Dior Capture Total moisturizers. Love what they do to my skin.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lily, you really can’t force brand affiliation and I totally understand :) I haven’t tried much, if any Dior skincare at all! I keep thinking I probably should, but I’m really happy with brands like Caudalie and so on. I think I’ll stick to them for a while.

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Gosh I know what you mean with this brand, the products either go so well with me or its a total hate. The last time I bought a moisturizer from them I threw it out because it only made my face feel STICKY no matter how little I used – and it was even supposed to be for oily skin. Yuk! However I do like their scented lip balms in the tubes and their dry oil. This cream here sounds good though.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Ahhh that sounds bad! I think there are hits and misses for everyone in every brand. Since Kiehl’s gives samples, I normally try to ask for one before making up my mind!

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

did you know that women get more benefits from touching than men? esp when they’re stressed? lol i always say to my bf ‘i have a hug deficit’ when i’m having a bad day so i understand hugging your cat.

having a guard is so key! i have a few pump products and have to put them into little containers when i travel. its just annoying and having a guard would be so great.

this product looks pretty promising .i’ve never tried a khiel’s product and i have a pretty good stash of asian skin care that i need to get through. sometimes i imagine just going in to khiels and getting a whole new skin care regime..but that’s crazy LOL.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha that’s interesting! I had no idea!

If you want to try new stuff, incorporate it slowly into your routine one product at a time. That way if something doesn’t work, you’ll at least know what it is! Kiehl’s gives samples very generously too, so perhaps you can try those first!
