Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II review

I might be one very late in jumping on the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair bandwagon, but boy am I not glad I did! This legendary little brown bottle has existed for 31 years (!!!), and the latest generation, Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, hit the market not so long ago.

In essence, ANR (RRP in Belgium: 112,76 euros for 50ml) is powerful antioxidant/hydrating serum. The new formula purifies and protects the skin from pollution on top of fighting free radicals and providing hydration. The serum is fragrance-free (I use it for my eye area as well), and the consistency is a little thick. I always use a generous dose of 4-5 drops every night after cleansing my face. I drip the serum onto my palm, bring my hands together, and pat it onto my face/neck. It absorbs pretty fast. Afterwards, the skin might be a tiny bit tacky, though it depends on the humidity/skin type. For example, during a long-haul flight not so long ago, I discovered that I can double or even triple my usual dose, and my skin would suck it right in! Layer a moisturizer on top (sandwich a dry oil in between if you want), and your skin is ready to enjoy some serious beauty sleep!

Estee Lauder new Advanced Night Repair

I know that remedying damage done during daytime or fighting free radical damage are really elusive concepts, and the result can’t be measured as accurately. However, here is what I have experienced: ANR instantly delivers a good amount of hydration to my skin so that it is plump and supple. It also brightens and smooths the skin. I am blessed not to have sleeping problems, but even then, I can definitely see that my skin is healthier with this serum than without.

I have been using it daily for three months now, and I am simply unwilling to part with it. I ask for sample packets of this serum whenever I can, , just so that I can take them on trips. If you are a frequent flyer, this is something you need to pack in your clear plastic bag. With the terribly drying recycled air and fitful sleep, ANR is a good bet if you want your skin to still look somehow presentable after 12+ hours.

What I love the most about ANR is the fact that I really haven’t found one single product that is comparable. What’s more, it does everything it does without being comedoenic. While I can see my beloved dry oils don’t necessarily work for everyone, this is a serum I would recommend to a wide age as well as skin type range. As for the price, I have been using a generous dose of my 50ml (1.7 oz) bottle every night for about 3 months by now, and only about a third is gone. This means a bottle can be reasonably expected to last 6+ months, and there is always a sale somewhere/opportunity to do some duty free shopping.

Here is the ingredient list:

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II ingredients

Bottom line: I would absolutely urge just about everyone to try Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II. Even if you have great skin without any particular concerns, this serum will still make it better. You will see me repurchase this when my bottle runs out!

Have you tried anything from the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair line? Are you just as impressed?

Mostly Sunny disclosure

  • Lily

My HG skin care! Glad you like it too :-)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yaaay I’m definitely going to stock up when there is an F&F sale somewhere next time. For the moment there’s still enough in my bottle for me not to panic 😉

  • TracyBeautyReflections

I tried this and loved it for about a week. But then it broke me out. :( Made me SO SAD because I just LOVED how my skin looked the next am. I want to try it again though. So GOOD, except for that one problem for me.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww yeah I remember you saying that :( Was it the new version that you tried?

  • beauties

heard great things about it =) i’m in love with the packaging

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Apparently it’s still pretty much the same with what it was 31 years ago!

  • peggy timmermans

I am impressed too! I must say it’s better then the previous one they made, there is something different about this…

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Peggy, I have tried sample packets of the previous version, but probably not enough to really feel the difference. I’m glad they seem to be moving in the right direction though!

  • Icaria

I’ve been using ANR on and off for like, forever! I haven’t tried this one yet but it’s on my list. I know it’s been critisized because some of the ingredients aren’t all that according to some but man, it does good to my skin too. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, I have heard this could break some people out, but then it’s the same story with almost every skincare product! It’s been working very well for me as well :)

  • Yak Man

Wow that sounds so good! But it out of my price range haha, maybe I will try it later, ahah. ^^

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Yak Man, I’d say this works across a big age range, but since you’re still very young, you might not experience as much of a result. You can indeed wait several years before you start!

  • BeautyLoves

I already have a big love for the ANR, so I’m actually a bit scared I won’t love the new version as much as I do the ‘old’ one.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww but you’ve got to give it a proper go! I really like it!

  • Kiss & Make-up

I have been using the ANR serum for a little over two months now, and I am hooked. Totally, completely and utterly hooked. I so agree with you when you say that it cannot be compared to anything else. I actually got the eye serum now as well (I just HAD to get it!) and I plan on doing a duo review on both products soon.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Melissa, same here! Hooked is the right word! I actually use this for my eye area as well, even though I own the serum. I reckon more layering of the good stuff can’t hurt!

  • Redhotjillypeppers

Sounds great ! I’ve heard a lot about the serum but haven’t tried it myself. Maybe I should finally give it a try.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jill, see if you can score some sample packets! I hope you’ll like it as much as I do!

  • Siri Lovise Eliassen

Couldn’t have said it better myself 😉 I love this stuff!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Yaay I’m glad you’re also a fan!

      • Siri Lovise Eliassen

It’s great for daytime as well. You can even use it on top of your makeup during the day for a bit of perk-me-up. You just drip a few drops in the palm of your hand, swirl a big brush in the liquid, and layer it on top of it all using a light hand. Feels great!

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girly, thanks for the tip! I’ve never tried this! I know you can mix some in the foundation. If my skin gets dry in winter I’ll definitely try this trick!

  • Larie

I’ve got to get a bottle of this stuff, too, but I haven’t been to the mall in ages and Sephora doesn’t carry it online, lol!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Larie, I’d love to hear what you think! I didn’t know Sephora doesn’t carry this online. That’s a little strange!

  • Natalie

I got a sample of this a few weeks ago and am still trying it out. I hope I have as amazing results as you have!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natalie, give it sometime and I hope you’ll notice the difference!

  • zozo

That’s such a good idea to stock up on samples for trips! Interesting ingredients in this product…kola nut also has caffeine and then there’s more caffeine added in the list. I know topical products with caffeine always make my skin look plump!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Zozo, I always make a point of asking for little mascaras or sample packets of a skincare product I like. They’re great to have for trips! I haven’t noticed too much of a distinctive effect of caffeine on my skin. I do have an eye cream that contains some, and whether it’s a placebo effect or not, I think it makes my morning puffy eyes go down a little 😉

      • zozo

It’s included as kola nut and as pure caffeine in the serum/oil you’ve reviewed here probably for its possible anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh thanks, Zozo! I think this makes a lot of sense!

  • jenn @Abeautifulzen

very very interesting. i think the missha one i mentioned was formulated with much of the same ingredients ( i think they were purposefully trying to recreate Estee’s formula)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, I have to look into that one! I know Paula’s Choice made something similar as well. I guess that means there are merits to this formula!

  • Cassandrapamela

I’ve just used up my first bottle of ANR2 and I loved it! But I have a deluxe sample of YSL youth liberator that I am using atm, and I think I like the YSL one a little bit better.. I am a bit confused

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh wow you used that up FAST! I haven’t tried the YSL one, though if you like it more than this, I’d definitely want to look into it!

  • ValleyDoll

I would love to try this one out ! I have used the original one often and the results are so good ! Excellent stuff.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Eva, you might really like this one indeed! I think the consensus is that the new version is better than the previous one!

  • fancie

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this serum! I’ll have to get a sample soon. I wasn’t sure if it would be suitable for younger skin but now you have me curious lol. thanks for the review Sunny!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Fancie, I don’t think this has a specific age range, but since you’re so young, you might see less of a difference. Still, get a sample and see how it works!

  • Man Yee Lau

I integrated this too a month back and I love it! I am combining the ANR with the pore minimizing serum and the even skintone illuminator. My Three Musketeers!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Man Yee, I’m glad to hear you love it, too! I haven’t tried other skincare products from EL, but I’d like to explore!

  • birtegovarts

I’m a VERY big fan of this product!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girl, I’m glad to hear that! So happy to finally join the ANR cult :)

  • Jacqueline Ma

I am a big fan of ANR. When my hubby had a very bad sunburn many years back on vacation, I made him put ANR all over his face. It about 3 days, his face calmed down with no peeling. I was a believer then. I haven’t tried the new formula though, time to go back to it.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jacqueline, oh wow that’s a good story! I hope I won’t get sunburnt anytime soon, but if I ever do I’ll try this one! The consensus is the new formula is better than the previous one, so do check it out!

  • Joyce (bronzer bunny)

I haven’t tried this yet but I definitely want to eventually!!!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Joyce, you totally should! I can really see the difference in the morning!
