“Life Is Not Black and White… Life Is Gold!” Dior J’adore L’Or Essence de Parfum

Dior J'adore L'Or Essence de Parfum bottle

While some scents are easygoing and perfect for everyday life, others only come to life at night. They are so rich and opulent that they are not really meant for anything else but an occasion for which you can don your most glamorous dress. Think luxurious, elaborate, and decadent. In other words, think Dior J’adore L’Or Essence de Parfum!

Dior J'adore L'Or Essence de Parfum notes

Dior J’adore is a family of floral fragrances. Besides the top-quality raw materials, what makes J’adore L’Or (40ml/1.35 oz. RRP in Belgium: 131,50 euros) stand out is the fact that is is an oriental floral. It opens with jasmine from Grasse absolute and rose de Mai absolute. The combination is potent, and it attracts just enough attention.

The heart notes include vanilla absolute and tonka bean. Vanilla is one of my favorite notes in perfumes, but it is easy to go wrong. It could be too fake, sugary, and it often lacks the voluptuous “body” that real vanilla should have. Fortunately, when Dior says they selected the best materials, they mean it. The vanilla here is mellow and very present. At the same time, the flowers from the head notes linger in the background. Notes such as amber and patchouli are supposed to constitute the base, but the mixture of jasmine, rose, and vanilla is dominant for the most part.

Since Dior J’adore L’Or Essence de Parfum is a parfum, you can expect excellent longevity. I would conservatively say it lasts for 24 hours. This is the result of spraying it on my wrist as well. On my neck, I swear I can still smell it after 2 days! Since it is highly concentrated, two spritz are plenty.

Isn’t the shape of the bottle very feminine and elegant?

Dior J’adore L’Or Essence de Pafum is not a scent I would pair with T-shirt and jeans. For me, it is much too precious to be worn that way. I see this as a fancy special occasion fragrance that I reach for only when I am all dressed-up, particularly on a chilly night. It is a fragrance you wear when you want to remember the day, as well as when you want to be remembered.

Do you have a special occasion perfume? Also, have you seen this clip? It’s pure Dior Christmas magic!

Oooh! Sounds really strong! Although I’m not a huge fan or orientals, but I like spicy!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, it’s not overwhelming in autumn/winter, but I can see it being too much for warmer climates/weather in general. This isn’t what I’d call spicy though!

  • birtegovarts

Hmmmm… Mayby I’ll put this on my Christmas-wishlist ;-). Sounds great!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh yeah this would make a great present!

  • Memoiselle

Dior J’ADORE is a classic perfume. I’m not a fan of the scent though, it’s too strong for my liking ;)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Meryl, I think J’adore L’Or is better for colder weather, and I can see it being a bit overwhelming in Singapore!

  • Bellyhead

Such a beautiful bottle! Vanilla notes in general don’t appeal to me, but I love how elegant this fragrance sounds, Sunny! I need to go back and sniff.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Belly, this one is definitely the going-all-out all-glammed-up type! Do give it a sniff :)

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.com/ Kiss & Make-up

I do adore this one! I let my Dior insider* spritz me with the J’Adore L’Or perfume last week and I loved it. I was engulfed in a cloud of yum all day, lol. (* just the lady who works opposite where I work, but insider sounds so much cooler, don’t you think)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Melissa, yes insider does sound a lot cooler! I love how professionals perfume people. They tend to use a generous amount from a distance, so you end up being enveloped in a veil of fragrance!

  • Marijke

LOVE the bottle, so pretty! I like the smell also! :-)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Indeed! The bottle is pretty legendary!

  • http://polished-polyglot.blogspot.ch/ Nati

What a wonderful review! It’s so hard to write about a fragrance and you’ve done it beautifully.
Then you’re right I own a scent like that, one I only keep for special moments. I think every girl should! (I’d also add life is gold WITH pink shimmer hihihi, but that has nothing to do with Dior)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Nati! So what’s your special occasion scent?

      • http://polished-polyglot.blogspot.ch/ Nati

That might be not very original: Chanel N°5. I’ve had it for … 8 years! I only use it few times per year and there is still plenty :)

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

OOO that is also a timeless classic!

  • Diana Na

This fragrance is in my list to try! Lovely review :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Diana! I hope you’ll like it!

  • Strawbry_Blonde

This sounds incredible Sunny! I loved the original too, must check this out.

Hey Nic, I’d like to know what you think of this one!

  • Lily

J’adore was my first spritz of perfume, because my mom used to have it when I was little. So now, every time I sniff it, I think “MOM”! Heh… To think about it, I should get her one for Christmas.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh LOL I’m actually beginning to wonder which scent my future kids will associate me with. I think Miss Dior has a better chance though!

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

You make it sound wonderful! I’m now wanting to look for it and try it. I’m always on the lookout for the next perfume I will really love and then maybe buy. My last one (which may sound a bit heavy and old) is Chanel Coco (the normal one).

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sofia, that’s also a classic! I’d like to find out how this fares in your climate! This is not something I’d wear when it’s remotely warm, but since I have several months of chilly weather ahead of me, it will do just fine ;)

      • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Hehehe “my climate” is winter and freezing here at the moment ;( I suppose it will act just like in your climate :)

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh OK because I have a friend in Barcelona who is always boasting about how warm it is LOL

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

that bottle is so classic and i can’t ever see it w/o thinking of charlize theron in the j’adore ad. can’t say i’ve ever given it a whiff though it sounds super fancy!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, oh yeah that is a very memorable one! You should take a whiff! Out of the 5 or so variations, there might be something you really like!

  • http://www.latinolook.com/ Liss Cope

This is my next perfume for sure!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liss, this is such an amazing one for the holiday season!
