Even This Shimmer-Phobe is Converted by Chanel Accent Joues Contraste!

Chanel Accent (84) Joues Contraste

While I adore shimmery eyeshadows, face products that contain shimmer always make me want to back away very slowly. I mean, what if the shimmer gets stuck in my pores? What if I end up looking like a disco ball? What if it magnifies the flaws? When I swatched Chanel Accent Joues Contraste, I swear the amount of shimmer made the hair on the back of my neck stand up a little. After I tried it on however, I was more than converted!

Chanel Accent blush

Chanel Accent Joues Contraste (84. please note that the version I have is the rest-of-the-world baked one) is a satin rosy beige with quite a bit of shimmer content. The texture is very soft, but not so soft that it becomes powdery or blends into nothing easily. It seems like I can pick up just enough color with a dab of my blush brush in the pan, swipe it on, and I’m ready to go! It blends beautifully, and here is the interesting thing: once it’s on, I can’t see any of the shimmer!

Chanel Accent (84) Joues Contraste closeup

I have no idea what optical illusion Accent manages to pull off, but it looks nice and glowy instead of “shimmery” on. I wouldn’t say it is too glowy either, and it doesn’t seem to stress my pores. It also lasts really well! Besides the great texture and wear time, this shade is just oh-so-easy to wear. Despite the beige in it, it doesn’t read all that warm-toned on me. Therefore, I have successfully paired it with a cool-toned red lipstick without it looking “dirty!”

Here is how Accent swatches. Left: built up. Right: blended out.

Chanel Accent (84) Joues Contraste swatch

I have been wearing Accent in almost all of my holiday collection looks. You have seen it in the following pictures:

Givenchy Ondulations d'Or Unique Eyeshadow FOTD

Chanel Nuit Infinie de Chanel FOTD

Guerlain Illusion RA FOTD

Bottom line: I honestly didn’t expect to like Chanel Accent Joues Contraste as much as I do, but it turned out to be a real stunner! Besides the great texture, lasting power, and beautiful glow, the shade is extremely versatile. If you see it, don’t bother “swatching” it. Try it on instead. It might just blow your mind!

Do you like shimmery blushes, or do you usually avoid them?

Hmmmmmm, really! I hated this upon swatching it! But if I can find it I will try it on as you say! It does look nice and neutral of a blush on you!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Tracy! Accent literally made me cringe when I swatched it, but you have to try it on to see how the shimmer pretty much disappears!

  • http://www.beautyaddiction1.blogspot.co.uk/ syrena85

I bought this blush too and I love the shade. True- it would be nicr if it had less of that shimmer as I don’t like to feel like a christmas tree ;-p I haven’t tried it on just yet so we will se if I will be amazed by that ;-)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Irena, you should try it on to see how it really works! I tread very carefully when it comes to shimmery blushes, but I’ve been really enjoying this one!

  • beauties

this is totally my kind of blush :) i’m a fan!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      It’s really easy to wear!

  • http://lipstickintheattic.blogspot.com/ Judith

What a lovely blush pink with a hint of lavendar. It looks lovely on you!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Judith! This is a really interesting shade that just doesn’t go wrong!

  • http://www.colormeloud.com/ Sara_BeauTime

Looks stunning! I love this one, so unexpectedly beautiful and found myself reaching for it over and over.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sara, I’m glad to hear you’re a fellow fan! It really is very versatile!

  • Icaria

Oh Accent is so tempting! I’m not really a fan of shimmery blushes but have been curious about a few recently. This one would really nicely complement a smokey eye! Decisions, decisions! :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, you should try it on to see how you feel! It goes with everything really, from simpler looks to more full-on ones!

  • peggy timmermans

That’s not too bad, it gives a lovely glow and you’re nowhere near from a disco ball :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha thanks, Peggy! I’d dig a hole and hide in it if I look like a disco ball :p

  • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

I am glad you love it as much as I do, sunny!!! Can feel the excitement in your words. Ive been wearing mine a lot, too!! I think it suits our skintone well!! :-) Love all the looks you posted, too. My fave is the last one – so fierce!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yaay you picked the great pieces from this collection, Shari! It really just goes with everything. I have no idea how they did that!

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I’m not afraid of shimmery cheeks at all but this one seemed too much even to me. Nice to hear it’s wearable though!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, I am really careful with shimmer in my face products, but I swear all that shimmer goes SOMEWHERE once you apply Accent on your cheeks!

  • Bellyhead

Sunny, so gorgeous on the skin! I’m running around trying to see a tester but having been able to! :(
The blended out color looks so luminous. I LOVE!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Belly, aww I hope you’ll lay your hands on a tester soon! It is just luminous on. No visible shimmer!

  • Eileen

I have the US version of Accent and adore it. On my NC15 complexion, it translates as a warm and delicate rosewood that has a soft glow and no overt shimmer. You younger ladies are always concerned about emphasizing pores, but I’m 69 and women of my age are more concerned about emphasizing wrinkles! Glad to say, Accent doesn’t do that at all :-) It applies smoothly and evenly and doesn’t call attention to any irregularity in the texture of my skin. I don’t know where the shimmer goes when it is blended out, but it completely disappears from view, leaving a soft flush of healthy color behind. Accent is not matte or satin-matte, but it is definitely not the “glitter bomb” many people expect it to be. The US version of Joues Contraste tends to be smoother, creamier, and more densely pigmented than “the rest of the world” version and so I use a light hand and a soft brush to apply it. Accent is one of my favorite blushers for these crisp autumn days.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Eileen, wow I’m glad to hear you like it so much! I’m still wondering where all the shimmer goes as well, but fortunately it really just disappears! I have tried on blushes that are too shimmery/frosty for my taste (like Benefit Coralista), but this one just leaves a nice sheen!

  • rachlovespenguins

I really liked the colour but the shimmer totally turned me away from it. Glad to hear it disappears! I’ll have to keep that in mind not only for this exact shade but for other products that look completely frightening in the pan as well. One never knows what they’ll really look like on the face until you try them. I need to keep repeating that to myself. lol

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Rach, I know exactly what you mean! The first time I saw this I thought someone must have been on crack when they made this shade, but once it was on I was sold!

  • Bella

I love Accent too. There is shimmer of the right and of the wrong kind. Nars Orgasm is the wrong. Nars Oasis, Outlaw, Sin and Chanel Accent are the right kind :).

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

LOL good to know, Bella! I have swatched Orgasm a couple of times but I’m really just not sure about it. I should follow my own advice and have it applied next time, just to see how I feel.

      • Bella

I think you would like Deep Throat or Daydream better, if a peachy pink is what you’re after. But go on, play at the Nars counter ;). Mostly nice things will happen!

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

The strange thing about me and NARS counters is whenever I am near one, I can’t seem to see anything I want LOL I tried a couple of times this time I was in Taipei, but I just didn’t seem to spot a blush I’d like to try. It’s really really weird!

  • Man Yee Lau

I have this one too and I adooooooore it! So beautiful!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yaay I’m glad to hear you like it as well! It’s amazing how they made something that looks so uninspiring in pan but is actually so gorgeous on!

  • petra

Waauw, such a pretty product! And also really love the eyemakeuplook in the last picture!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Petra! That’s Chanel Fatal and Charming!

  • ValleyDoll

It looks like a peculiar shade, yet it suits you very well !

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Eva! I don’t own anything that is remotely similar to this one!

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

I love how it lightens up your face. I’m also quite scared of shimmer in cheek products in case it gets in pores and makes them look worse. I have to say though that I do have a shimmery blush I adore and it is Chanel! (one of the tweed blushes) so I guess they must do this well…

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Sofia! You should have this applied at the counter to see how it works on you! I really don’t have the impression that I see “shimmer” on!

  • http://redhotjillypeppers.com/ Redhotjillypeppers

Looks great on you ! Nice running into you again btw :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Haha thanks, Jill! Same here!

  • Jacqueline Ma

I was so glad that it wasn’t too shimmery for me because I like my shimmer muted or no shimmer at all. Although it has brown tones it matched my skin tone well. Sunny you have to try the US version, it is definitely softer in texture and much easier to pick up pigments. I found that my old non-Us versions have hardened and are now harder to pick up. It still doesn’t stop me from buying them though. I love Chanel JC.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jacqueline, ahhh I know that! I like the couple of Joues Contraste I own, but I remain curious about the US version!

  • http://beautyandtheeyeliner.wordpress.com/ Natalie

What a nice fall/winter blush! It looks beautiful on you.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Natalie! I actually think it’d work pretty much all year round!

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

very pretty! i swatched all the contrasts b/c i wanted to get my mom one for xmas and i was a bit surprised by how shimmery they all swatched but when the SA told me she was wearing one, it really didn’t look that shimmery. just goes to show, as always, things look different on the rack/in the pan, than when worn. glad you were pleasantly surprised with this product :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, I only own a couple of these but none of them looks shimmery ON. The only way to find out is having it applied at the counter or just buying one to try at home LOL

  • http://www.cuteandmundane.com/ Dovey

    Hi Sunny,

CHANEL Accent is so pretty and subtle on you! I’m quite tempted by the shade :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Dovey! I think it’ll work really well for you as well, so check it out before it’s gone!

  • Lily

OMG, you look super gorgeous and this blush is totally you, Sunny! I’m now chanting away… *I don’t need another blush*

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Lily! Accent turned out to be amazingly easy to work with and pair!

  • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

Pretty!!! So natural and your skin is perfection!!I love the blushes that glow rather being shimmery/glittery. This one reminds me of the Kiko baked mineral blush I have; that shade is gorgeous!!

    Ps; how’s the tea/salted caramel? :D

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww thanks so much, Whitney! I haven’t tried Kiko but I really should try to get myself into a store ASAP!

I need a thermometer before I can start making salted caramel, so not yet! ;)

  • http://www.glambunctious.com/ Kristen / Glambunctious

What a beauty this one turned out to be! I love it! I do tend to avoid anything with chunky sparkles, but I’m slowly but surely opening up to the possibilities of shimmer blushes. I’m in love with NARS Madly, a shimmering “nude” shade. Even though it makes my skin look oily sooner, it also makes my face look a little more youthful. So it’s a trade-off I’ve been into lately!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Kristen, oh Madly does look adorable! I still can’t stand frost or chunky sparkle, but for some reason this one doesn’t look that way at all on the cheeks!

  • http://www.project-swatch.com/ Emi at Project Swatch

I am loving neutral blushes lately, I am very tempted by this one. hmmmmm.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Emi, see if you can have it applied at a counter. Our skin tones are somehow similar though. I’m guessing it’ll work well for you!
