A Palette of Perfect Lid Shades: Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs

Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs FOTD

If you’re still kicking yourself for missing out on Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs, there is good news and bad news. The good news is it is still possible to lay your hands on it without paying a grossly marked-up price on eBay. The bad news is you might need a plane ticket for Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Korea. That’s right, the limited edition eyeshadow palette is actually permanent in certain countries! I failed to resist the temptation during my most recent trip, and that’s why you’ll be drooling over it today!

Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs packaging

It remains a total mystery as to why Dior made such a decision. I can see why certain shades will only be available on certain continents, but in selected countries? This has to be the first time I noticed this.

Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs

Nevertheless, let’s focus on the palette itself. Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs (539) packs 5 delicate iridescent shades. The finish is very beautiful and glow-y, which is exactly what I prefer for the inner two thirds of my lid!

Here are the swatches:

All 5 shades are very creamy, pigmented, and completely fallout-free. Rather than a typical Dior texture, Iridescent Leather reminds me of something you would see from Urban Decay. Theoretically speaking, yes this is another neutral palette which you might be tired of by now, but the nuance and depth set it apart!

For the look, I used the shade on the bottom right for the inner two thirds, upper right for the outer third, the darkest shade in my outer v as well as my lower lash line, and the lightest shade in the inner corners:

Can you see how much they glow?

This is the complete look with Rouge Bunny Rouge Florita on my cheeks, Guerlain Illusion on my lips, Guerlain Crazy Terracotta Healthy Glow Powder around the edge of my face, and Guerlain Les Voilettes pressed powder to set everything (review coming up soon).

Bottom line: Dior Iridescent Leather 5 Couleurs contains 5 shimmery shades with a lot of nuance and depth. It can definitely function alone if you don’t object to wearing shimmery shades all over, but for me it is the palette of perfect lid shades. Quality-wise, there is nothing I can nitpick, either!

Would you be hunting Iridescent Leather down?

  • Lily

One of my favourite Dior palettes of all time! I need to use it more :-)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Oh yeah, take it out!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

So pretty Sunny! It is perfect lid shades! I don’t remember this one, but I’m not a huge Dior eyeshadow fan so I probably ignored it. BUT DANG IT it’s not typical Dior! I would have liked these! Oh well that’s what you get when you just assume things are the same always!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Tracy! This is really not typically Dior. I have no issue with their eyeshadows, but these are just SO creamy and pigmented! They could just about be from Urban Decay, although the finish is a bit more delicate.

  • http://onedrawerfull.wordpress.com/ Kirti

How weird that it isn’t permanent everywhere! The colours truly are glowy and I love the browns in particular

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Kirti, I know! Or at least why it’s not permanent in Asia, but only in these three countries from what I can see.

  • Chris El

This is like my perfect neutral quint. Would love for it to be permanent where I am.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Chris, I know! It’s really weird that they arbitrarily decided to make it permanent in these countries but nowhere else!

  • Chia-Yi Liu

I just happen to be going to Taiwan soon! anything else you recommend I check out besides this palette?

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

OOO great! In that case, check this one out! Hmm you mean from Dior or in general? I know that they get different Rouge Dior shades in Asia, so if you’re more into softer shades, take a look at those!

      • Chia-Yi Liu

Cool, thanks! how about in general?

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

I also got some stuff from Cle de Peau this time. The price seems lower in Taiwan, and the counters are pretty much everywhere! You should also look into Hada Labo and drugstore products in general. There’s a lot of fun stuff that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

          • Chia-Yi Liu

  • http://www.colormeloud.com/ Sara_BeauTime

Oh this is interesting that it is permanent in some countries. Can it explain me getting that palette almost half the price in eBay? Lol, I also didn’t understand why but I am happy with it. Only that it is a bit too frost for my liking and resting somewhere deep in my drawers but there wil be a day I start searching for it ;-)
Looks gorgeous on you, as always!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sara, yeah that might be why! I’ve seen it going for 90 bucks on eBay though. It’s pretty insane! I love these shades as a light wash, but I would actually use a matte in the crease on most days to create more depth (god knows how much I need that)!

  • beauties

I like it a lot :) wouldn’t mind having it

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah it’s great for quick looks, since you can’t really go wrong with them!

  • http://www.beautyaddiction1.blogspot.co.uk/ syrena85

It looks just stunning. I have actually never heard of that palette before. You look great as always.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Irena! This came out in 2008, so it’s not until Dior brought it back on the US market for a limited amount of time earlier this year that I heard about it! I was so surprised to find out it’s permanent in Taiwan!

  • Samantha M

Gorgeous! I never get tired of neutral shadow palettes xx

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Same here. I hoard them LOL

  • http://kissokill.net/ robin valentine

i LOVE this palette! it’s the prettiest. and so are you

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww thanks so much, Robin! <3

  • Icaria

This is lovely! I wouldn’t do an all over look with this one but using a few at a time would work nicely. I like the fact that it seems to be more on the cool side too. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, same here! I personally prefer a matte in the outer third/crease, but nice neutral iridescent shades actually aren’t THAT easy to find!

  • http://eyespaintedblack.com/ Natasja

I really don’t want to buy any dior eyeshadow palettes yet, because they’re crazy expensive and most of my money is going to expensive lipstick or Urban Decay (for eyeshadows).. but this one.. It’s just amazing, even for brown-toned colors of which I have plenty… my… oh my. I am tempted. Gorgeous swatches… I shouldn’t have checked out your blog today :P

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natasja, haha sorry about that! I consider this a quint that can’t really go wrong, although most of the shades do lean light.

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

Pretty! But it’s not really screaming my name, despite everything! Also, the confusion about it being permanent in some places and not in others is weird. I wonder what went on there?

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Larie, I THINK it’s because the Asian market prefers shimmery light shades, and there’s no doubt this is popular back home. However, I have no idea why it isn’t available in China or Japan, for example.

  • Christina

Ohh, it was LE? *kicks at the floor*

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah. I think the story is it came out in 2008 as a holiday palette, and then Dior brought it back on the US market earlier this year for a limited amount of time. They did sneakily make it permanent in certain countries though! I only realized that recently.

  • Diana

I’m not crazy about this palette. But the pigmentation looks great though!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girly, pigmentation-wise this thing doesn’t get any better! I can see how it’s too light or shimmery for some though!

  • rachlovespenguins

Ooooh lovely! This is pretty much the go-to look out of my Urban Decay stash though, so I think I’m safe from the hunt. So far (aside from Bonne Etoile, which I am kinda sad I don’t own) I’ve found most Dior 5 Couleurs to be pretty, but not screaming my name enough to purchase.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Rach, good to know! Another one I really like is Golden Savannah from autumn 2012, but that one is the opposite of Iridescent Leather because it packs mostly darker shades :)

  • JaguayanFlawer

This one looks lovely… but I wonder if it looks frosty. I stopped buying Dior eyeshadows since they seemed to be too frosty for my liking. This one does look a bit, but I wonder if that could be corrected using a dark matte shade to give depth (I’m thinking Nars Coconut Groove)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girly, I think there is a frostier shade in there, but otherwise it’s just shimmery. I would normally throw a matte into the look myself as well, but this is personal preferences ;)

  • http://www.lenallure.com/ Lena L

    Sunny, you look absolutely stunning!
This is a brown palette I would wear! I adore the iridescent glow and the dark brown that flashes a bit of purple as well.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww thanks so much, Lena! Yeah that’s what I mean: the shades just have so much depth!

  • http://beautyandtheeyeliner.wordpress.com/ Natalie

This palette looks stunning! I would use it the same way you do, paired with other shadows.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natalie, yup I favor some depth in my crease, so I’d throw a matte shadow in the mix :)

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

an aweomse palette! weird about the different marketing/permanency in different countries. i wonder what the logic behind that is…

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, I really can’t say. I know that Rouge Diors have softer shades in Asia, but I can see it. Making a palette permanent in a handful of countries though? It’s very puzzling!

  • http://nothingspaces.com Carina

Oh wow, this is freaking gorgeous. They ARE perfect lid shades! :0

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Carina, yup they’re so brightening!

  • Krystle Kouture

I love all these colors! Brb buying a plane ticket

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha that or see if you have a friend who is going there or just catching a connecting flight at the airport. I am not 100% sure, but I think the dutyfree shops of these countries should carry it too.

  • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

This set looks perfect! I would definitely go for Dior over urban decay!I can’t wait to check it out when I’m in hong Kong over Xmas!

BTW, love your earrings! I’m into that shape of earrings lately! It looks like a lock.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Whitney, oh yay go check it out! I hope you’ll like it, too! I got those earrings years ago! I should see if I can take a close-up photo of them at some point :)

  • peggy timmermans

These colours are so wearable! Gorgeous palette indeed!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Peggy, wearable is my middle name on most days LOL

  • http://www.beauty-box-online.com Beauty Box

Can’t have enough neutral shades in my makeup stash haha… I have only one Dior palette which is predominantly purple n was disappointed in how the shimmery light to medium shades looked practically the same on the eye lid – my palette lacked interesting depth and nuance (to steal your words). You are so right in the way you describe UD eyeshadow snow that’s I’m such a huge fan.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Yu Ming, same here! Are you talking about Petal Shine? I have that one and I actually like it, though I do see what you’re saying as well. I was and still am really impressed by UD eyeshadows. I just wish they’d also put out quads and quints, because I am less than useless when it comes to bigger palettes.

  • http://lipstickintheattic.blogspot.com/ Judith

That’s lovely. Actually regarding the decisioon that’s qite frequent, a lot of shades from Nars and Lancôme are available in Canada and the US but not in Europe.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah I understand this if it’s a continent, but specific countries? That seems kind of rare!

  • http://www.nailsandcupcakes.com/ Isabelle

Oh wow, you were right to pick this one up.. The shades are just about perfect! I wonder what gems I’ll find when I’m in Tokyo. *prays for many of them*

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Isabelle, oh I’m sure you’ll find a lot of gems in Japan! I don’t think this particular palette is available there, but if you like more “everyday” type of lipsticks, Rouge Diors have a lot of softer shades in the Asian line-up!

  • http://angelandthings.wordpress.com/ Angel

oh. my. lord. This is so gorgeoussss!! What do you suggest if I were to choose between the Chanel Charming and this? They are both such gorgeous perfect neutral palette with gorgeous packaging!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Angel, hmm it depends on what type of shades you use more often. I like Charming because there aren’t so many good mattes around, let alone in one palette. Iridescent Leather is much more shimmery, but very tastefully-done. Also, Charming packs 2 dark shades while Iridescent Leather leans light!

  • http://www.belletristicbeauty.com/ Jenny

Completely regretting not picking this up when I had the chance–or chances I should say. Definitely regretting it. Oh well. Someday. Looks beautiful on you though :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you’ll be able to lay your hands on it some day :)

  • Memoiselle

    Hey Sunny,

The colors are so versatile and easy to use. Although I am not a big fan of Dior 5 couleurs, I’ll check this out as the color looks so nice. PS: you look so sweet in the pictures above :D

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Meryl, I’d like to hear what you think! Is there a reason why you aren’t a fan of Dior 5 Couleurs? Now I’m curious :)

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I wonder if any of my relatives in Korea would send me this. ^____^ Such a beautiful neutral palette!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hahaha BEG, Liz! You already know people in Korea. That’s a head start!

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

It looks great on you. I’m sure either my local Sephora or the other shop I go to for cosmetics still have this palette because they probably never sold out, I’m pretty certain I recently saw it. I was worried it might be tooooo shimmery but maybe not…

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Sofia! Oh wow, really? I think it came out as an LE palette in ’08! Maybe you saw Earth Reflection? That is one I do plan to lay my hands on some day :)

      • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

I’ll check out which one it has…

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Stacey, aww yeah you pretty much have to be in Korea or Taiwan as far as I can tell. Tell you what, if by next summer you haven’t laid your hands on it, I’ll see if I can grab one for you when I’m back!
