First Impression: Chanel Collection Notes de Printemps

Chanel Collection Notes de Printemps

Are you ready for more spring pieces? Today I have something pink and purple from *Chanel Collection Notes de Printemps (available in Belgium on Janury 17th) to share with you! Again, as I have just laid my hands on everything, this is more like a first impression post. Full reviews and looks will come as soon as I can squeeze them out!

Chanel Quadrille (537) Lumieres Facettes

(I accidentally nicked the darkest shade before I could photograph the quad…)

Chanel Quadrille Lumière Facettes (RRP in Belgium: 50 euros) has a satin lavender gray, a beige with a golden tint and some sheen, a satin pink coral, and a cool-toned dark brown with a reddish undertone. Most shades are pretty subtle when swatched dry, but I’ll try them wet to see if I can achieve a bolder look.

This is how Quadrille swatches dry:

Next up, we have Chanel Impulsion Illusion d’Ombre (RRP in Belgium: 30,50 euros).

Chanel Impulsion (93) Illusion d'Ombre

I own several Illusion d’Ombres, but Impulsion has to be the one that sparkles the most! Impulsion has an almost glazed finish, and the multi-chrome shimmer catches light like crazy! It is smooth and as opaque as such a light shade can be.

There are two other Le Vernis in the collection, but the dark eggplant, Charivari, (RRP in Belgium: 22,50 euros) has to be my favorite!

Chanel Charivari (603) Le Vernis

It doesn’t really scream spring to me, but then again this wouldn’t be the first time Chanel sneaks a dark nail polish in their spring collection (Accessoire from 2013 is a good example). In any case, I am glad there is something for those of us who can’t do pastel!

The most exciting part about any spring release for me is the lipsticks, particularly the coral ones. There are 6 lipsticks in total in Collection Notes de Printemps with three different formulas (two Rouge Cocos, two Rouge Allures, and two Rouge Allure Velvets, so hopefully everyone can find something they like!

Chanel Triomphe (60) Rouge Coco

Chanel Triomphe Rouge Coco (RRP in Belgium: 33 euros) is a soft peachy coral.

Chanel Mélodieuse Rouge Allure (33 euros) is a bright pink coral.

There is also a Lèvres Scintillantes, Sonate (27,50 euros). It is a sheer coral red.

I personally prefer a bit more pigment in my lip products, but Sonate will most probably layer well on top of both Triomphe and Mélodieuse!

Chanel L'adoree Rouge Allure Velvet

Last but not least, Chanel L’Adorée Rouge Allure Velvet, a rich mauve.

  • Shari

Beautiful lipsticks!!! I feel like I welcome corals for spring more than pastels. The IdO looks like a pass for me esp since you noted it’s the sparkliest of all the IdOs you own. The quad looks pretty but it reminds me so much of other past ones (Seduction, at the top of my head). Maybe if I see a comparison post of all similar ones and notice there’s a stark difference, then maybe that 😉 The polishes also stand out to me! Charivari esp (cos of the color and the name, vain Jane in me is amused at the sound of Shari-vari LOL).

  • MyNewestAddiction

Gorgeous photos! :) The purples are looking the best to me!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Laura! Same here. I’m big on purple 😉

  • Bella

Agree, the lipsticks look lovely. And how did you get your hands on a non-baked quad :D? Nothing here really screams *I’ve never seen anything like you and I must have you NOW”, but knowing myself, I shall visit a Chanel counter and not come away empty handed. Le sigh ;).

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Bella, there is only one version of this quad all over the world (because it is a Lumiere Facettes instead of a regular Chanel quad)! You should swatch this and see how the colors look on your skin tone. There is only one darker shade in here, and I don’t know if the rest would be too pale for you!

  • Lily

I bought something from this collection – their Le Blush Creme De Chanel in Intonation. It’s gorgeous :-)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

YES I’m glad to hear you like it! I’d love to lay my hands on it as well!

  • beautiesatwork

the lipsticks and the liploss got my attention :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Yeah those are gems!

  • Samantha M

Charivari is gorgeous!! I can’t do pastel either so thanks, Chanel! x

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha I really want to like pastels, but I don’t think I’ll ever love them the same way I love vampy and quirky nail polishes!

  • BeautyLoves

It’s the first time I’ve seen (or maybe I’ve never noticed before) the square eyeshadows here in Belgium. Are these not baked like the usual Chanel eyeshadow? Which to me, would be great, because I want the US pigmentation!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Stamatia, this quad is a “Lumiere Facettes” which is different from the regular Chanel quads. The shades in there are pretty subtle, but I haven’t tried other Lumiere Facettes in the past so I can’t tell if that’s a general thing or not!

  • Lys

Nail polish looks good! I’m curious about the lipsticks, too.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lys, I think I’ll get along well with the coral ones, but there are other shades if coral isn’t your thing :)

  • Anne

What wait what does that mean we get the pressed powder version of the quad in Europe now? PLEASE SAY YES.
What mostly interests me here are the lipstick, especially the rouge coco! And, of course, the cream blush. But that’s a given, duh.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Anne, I don’t think so! This quad is a “Lumiere Facettes” which is apparently a different formula, and there is only one for all over the world! I really want Intonation but I don’t know if I should get ANOTHER one. Cream blushes don’t stay good forever, and I already have a handful of them!

      • Anne

I just checked on Temptalia and Christine lists the US quad of the last fall collection (Mysterious or something like that) and this one as containing 0.24oz of product, so I’d guess it’s the same formula? I sure hope it means they’ve stopped those baked atrocities (well, not atrocities, but still, a lot of them are frustrating!). Though I’ll probably be disappointed.
Well, I’m getting both at one point or another, I’ll tell you how I like them! :)

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Anne, hmm I hope so too, but we’ll have to wait and see! I’ve been told there is only one version possibly because Lumiere Facettes is a different formula to begin with, though I’m really not sure!

  • Birkie Birkster

What a superb collection and I really like Chanel having deeper colours for eyes and lips included for Spring. But how comes Holland is always the last in receiving any Spring collections? It’s not like the distributors have to drive for a 1000 miles or such? :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girl, really? I thought WE are the slower ones! This collection won’t be available in Belgium for another week. I suppose you guys have a similar launch date?

  • Mariella (Musing on Beauty)

I do have Diapason already, hehe, and it’s gorgeous! I think I want Charivari too, and possibly a lipstick although I have a lot of those colors already.
Did you change your layout? It’s beautiful!!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

OOOOO you do? I have to swatch it, but it does look nice. I hope it won’t pull reddish on me, because my skin tone kinda hates that. Yes I did! Thanks, Mariella!

  • Rainy Days & Lattes

This collection looks really nice. I especially like the lipsticks! Corals are always a win!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, I think you’ll rock the eyeshadows better than I can!

  • rachlovespenguins

I’m waffling on the lipstick, as I know I still really want the blush. So far Chamade is winning that race because I’m feeling daring lately and Intonation looks relatively safe by comparison.
I’ve also been rummaging in the stash like a madwoman hoping to find a polish similar enough to Charivari. I might be willing to drop nearly 40usd on a blush, but as much as I adore the colour I just can’t find it in myself to spend 27 on a polish. I just…can’t. It’s kind of funny because I always considered myself a nail addict, and while the colours in most high end collections have never completely appealed to me before (I’m a huge fan of the vast offerings of OPI and the like) it appears I’ve finally found my limit in this one. When confronted with the choice of having the polish, lipstick, or blush – but one and only ONE of them – my hand is inching towards the lippy or blush instead.

O.o blogs have turned my nail fiend self into a blush addict!!!!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Rach, I see your point! The thing is Chanel tends to be the trend-setter in terms of nail polishes, but other companies will soon follow (remember Peridot? There are at least 20 dupes on the market). The only difference is you get to own it a few months earlier. I started out with nail polishes as well, but now I’m way more obsessed with everything else!

      • rachlovespenguins

Oh yeah, they’re definitely trend-setters with colours like Peridot, Paradoxal, Graphite, etc! I can’t help but feel that this one has already been done though. I mean maybe there’s not a spot-on dupe out there yet, but I’m pretty sure there are some wildly similar shades in my already vast collection of purples. I have this problem with accidentally-on-purpose creating ombre arrays of my favourite colours, It just so happens that THIS smoky eggplant creme has caught my magpie eye and I want it now now NOW. lol 😀

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Rach, now I want to see your collection of purple nail polishes! I think I have a lot, but maybe not as many!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Hey no baked eyeshadows for you guys! I wonder if that means here we’ll get this version too?

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, this is a Lumiere Facettes which is not exactly the regular Chanel quad. I’m relatively sure there is only one version!

  • Larie

I dunno what it is, Chanel just doesn’t make my heart sing, hahaha. Sometimes I fall for a polish! But I feel like they’ve put out pink after pink after pink lately, and pinks just aren’t my thing!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha well pink is big this time of the year, though I can definitely see your point!

  • Sofia

Last week I bought my first Illusion d’Ombre (yes, I’ve been very late to jump on that bandwagon, I know). I got the lighter colour from the Christmas collection, beige and very sparkly. I have to say that yesterday I put it on at 7am, then I went to take it off at 12pm at night, yes, thats 17 hours on, I remembered to check it and it was practically perfect with no primer! Amazing! Sunny, are they all that good? Because if so I’ll be getting some more… I’m loving the 1st two lipsticks and the lipgloss shade here.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sofia, wow it lasts SO well on you! The formula does last well on me, but I don’t think I’ve tried to wear it for 17 hours 😉 Hmm among the ones that I have, I would say lasting power is pretty consistent. Some of them are more like a sheerer wash of color, and others are more pigmented. It depends on what you usually wear!

      • Sofia

I usually wear darker colours, but I went for that one because I was beginning to only have dark colours and needed a change… Well if the quality is quite constant I’ll be watching out for more colours I like :)

  • Isabelle

I love the Quadrille pallette!! I’ve been smitten with pinks lately, and this one.. ahh.. Spot on! Especially the first shade. It’s quite special.

The Illusion d’Ombre seems almost identical to the one in the Lancôme French Ballerine collection.. Perhaps just a little less pigmented. The lacquer looks like another one of those must haves.

I think I know which collection to spend my IPXL voucher one, haha! :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha yeah I was thinking the quad is very you! If you like reddish shades, there are SO MANY of those this time of the year!

  • Lena L

The polish has to be my favorite, too!
And the lippies are so you, Sunny :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lena, yeah that is a fun one! My love for coral is REALLY not a secret 😉

  • MyLuciteDreams

Coral and mauves, I approve! I’m not big on pastels either. The two corals looks so similar, both gorgeous! I think this might be one of the ore exciting collections for the season

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Taylor, I’m glad to hear you like it! It’s nice how Chanel has two lipsticks in every formula for people who like different finishes!

  • Dovey

    Hi Sunny,

Sigh, CHANEL Notes de Printemps is more and more beautiful, the more I look at it! I can’t think of one piece I wouldn’t want in my collection. I love the look of CHANEL Rouge Coco in Triomphe — what a pretty shade!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Dovey, I’d love to hear about it if you decide to pick something up! I am big on the coral lippies, but I have to work a bit harder for everything else to work!

  • Jenny

Hi Sunny, I knew you’d get the coral lippies! Can’t wait to hear what you think!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah this really surprises NO ONE LOL

  • jenn @Abeautifulzen

do you think you can wear impulsion sheerly over other shadows? just to add a bit of that shimmer onto your eyes but w/o too much color?

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, I think that’s what I’ll use it for. Just a dab of it in the center of the lid!

  • Whitney

My favourite out of them is the gloss! The packaging looks the less fancy compared to the rest, but that colour looks so wearable and perfect for spring!! The lipsticks are also gorgeous! I’ve barely finished my one and only Chanel lipstick, and I should finish it before I jump at any more chanel lippies though :(

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Whitney, yeah it’s interesting but Chanel never seems to do special packaging! I guess they want to adhere to something more classic. I’m digging the corals (of course), but there are shades in their permanent line-up that are equally good. I know there is a new collection of lipsticks coming out a couple of months from now as well. If you have finished yours, it’d be a great time to get a new one then!

  • Liz

I freaking love this collection! It’s my favourite out of all the spring stuff, although I unexpectedly picked up something from Dior. Sonate and the creme blushes are really tugging at me though. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, I KNOW THE CREAM BLUSHES! I really shouldn’t accumulate more, but Intonation is calling my name really loudly!

  • Dominique33

It’s a pretty collection but Sunny I really miss Peter Philips. He knew for sure what the word delicate meant. The spring collection looks colourful but honestly I wish Philips would come back !

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Dominique, yeah I’m beginning to feel that way as well :p Let’s see what the rest of the year has in store for us!

      • Dominique33

Yes Sunny, let’s wait a bit but I really think that Peter Philips’ work for Chanel is unforgettable.

  • Chia-Yi Liu

impulsion has definitely caught my eye! can we see you do a look with it?

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Chia-Yi, yup I’ll be working as fast as I can and do looks with all these pieces!

  • Nati

I don’t know what is it. “Chanel, is it you, or is it me?” I’m not diggin’ this collection… And last holidays season… I don’t want to use the word disappointing, but I’d say I expected a bit more. Now I’m waiting for those new lipsticks. I really loved last year’s rouge allure velvet for Spring, and I expect Chanel will surprise us again in 2014. do you have this impression too, Sunny?

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

I liked the holiday collection quite a bit, but if I had to pick, the Guerlain one was my fave! Oh yeah, La Favorite is really, really good. What I feel about Chanel is while their collections aren’t usually the ones that scream my name the loudest, a lot of my staple pieces do come from Chanel. For example, I don’t even own that many Chanel blushes at all, but most of my no-brainer go-to ones are from Chanel!

  • Joyce (bronzer bunny)

i love the new layout by the way! :) <3 anyway, nothing from spring is really catching my eye, except maybe the new rouge double intensite shade that i haven't been able to find at counters yet

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Aww thanks, Joyce! I don’t think we get that here to be honest! There is NO information about it in the file I received!

      • Joyce (bronzer bunny)

        interesting! and strange lol

  • fancie

The quad and L’Adoree are gorgeous!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Fancie, oh I bet L’Adoree will look a thousand times better on you than it does on me!

  • Icaria

Oh to think I almost missed this one! I intend on picking up Quadrille this week. I swatched it when I purchased Diapason and Charivari and I really liked the textures of the shades. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, I still haven’t got the opportunity to play with Quadrille, but I’m glad to hear you like it! Not sure how the shades will look on me but we’ll see 😉

  • Jacqueline Ma

Babe have you checked out Diapason? The egg plant purple is so gorgeous. I bought Impulsion and the quad too, I couldn’t help myself. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jacqueline, nope not yet! I have doubts about it pulling too red on me, so I really have to swatch it and see for myself :)
