Whee it’s my turn to answer the Beauty Spotlight Team‘s questions! I hope this post is entertaining without being TMI, but I can’t promise you anything! Read on and let me know what you think in the comments!
1) When you shop for makeup, skincare and perfume, do you do it with the blog in mind first and foremost– or with your own use in mind?
I am more inclined to purchase makeup that has more “blogging value” than just for my own enjoyment, but skincare and perfumes are purchased purely with my own use in mind. I’d rather keep repurchasing skincare that I love and blog less about skincare than gambling about with new products all the time!
2) How much time do you spend blogging per week?
Like you don’t even want to know! I’ve never counted, but from taking photos to editing them, from testing stuff out to actually writing the posts, oh and let’s not forget about replying to comments and tweeting… I’m not even sure I want to know!
3) How do you find the motivation to keep making the effort to keep the blog going?
I think about everyone who reads my blog!
4) Is there a category of products you like (or dislike) blogging about in particular?
I like to blog about lipsticks the most, because they don’t take quite as long to test out (for example, I can only test one eye look/blush per day, but I can test 2-3 lipsticks in a day if I want to), and by now my preferences are clear. I dislike blogging about foundations the most, because there are so many factors at play, and it can take days to figure them out.
5) Last book you read?
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I have read pretty much every book she has published, and the new one does not disappoint!
6) What makes you feel beautiful?
A good skin day, something coral, winged-out eyeliner!
7) Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Oh I have several! Salted caramel, carbs in general, and did I ever mention I have an unhealthy attachment to Mr. Reese, aka Jim Caviezel’s character in the TV series, Person of Interest? I know that sweet and emotionally-mature guys are the trend, but I am not going to pretend I don’t have a thing for guys who are smart, capable, but emotionally bottled-up.
8) What time do you wake up in the morning?
It really depends. Since I work from home and my schedule could change a lot, it could be anywhere between 7AM and 12PM (if I had to stay up late at night)! While we’re on the topic of working from home, have you seen this? It is hilarious, and it pretty much sums up my lifestyle!
9) Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Oh uh, I guess from all the cat photos you have seen here over the years, it is pretty clear that I am a cat person. I don’t dislike dogs, and I actually learnt more about them at some point. It’s just that I don’t think I will ever make a good pack leader, and dogs really need one!
10) What was your first real job?
English teacher! I tutored people English throughout my undergrad years, and when I wanted a gap year between university and grad school, I landed a job teaching adults conversational English. It was really fun! I got to meet people from all walks of life, and most of my students were very nice to me.
11) If you were given a shopping spree at one store, what store would you like it to be?
If I were allowed to cross the English channel, let’s say Harrods or Selfridges. If not, I’m sure I can go nuts in a Karen Millen store here! My black lace period is far from over, and they also have nice hand bags as well as leather jackets…
12) What is your most favorite discontinued item?
Since I haven’t been into makeup for too long, I could never answer this question until very recently: Dior Spring Ball Addict Extreme! I have mentioned it a million times here (just to give you an example), and it is the first lipstick I ever stand a chance of finishing. However, it is being discontinued! I grabbed two when I found out, and I am praying that by the time those are gone, I will have found a suitable replacement.
