Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer & Malt Shimmer Lip Colors

Bobbi Brown Malt Shimmer, Raspberry Shimmer Lip Colors

Bobbi Brown says YES to shimmer with 12 new shimmery additions to her Lip Color line. They are supposed to be lightweight and moisturizing with a sheer yet multi-dimensional effect. Let’s take a quick look at *Raspberry Shimmer and *Malt Shimmer to see what they’re like!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Color packaging

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Colors (RRP in Belgium: 25 euros. Availability: March) come in the same packaging as the rest of her Lip Colors, and the formula is barely scented (when I really sniff I think I can smell something, but otherwise no).

Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer Lip Color (1) closeup

Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer Lip Color (1) is a medium bright pink with mostly gold shimmer. The color payoff is semi-opaque, which makes it very easy to wear. I can feel a bit of “texture” when I press my lips together, but otherwise the formula is comfortable to wear. It lasts for about 3 hours on me. If you eat or drink, the shimmer does travel a little.

This is how Raspberry Shimmer swatches. Left: one pass. Right: built up.

You see the shimmer better in the lip closeup:

(I have no idea how I nicked the tip of Malt Shimmer!)

Bobbi Brown Malt Shimmer Lip Color (5) closeup

Bobbi Brown Malt Shimmer Lip Color (5) is a coppery brown with a good dose of gold shimmer. Remember how I always whine about brown lipsticks not being flattering on my skin tone? This one has to be an exception! Like Raspberry Shimmer, I can feel a bit of “texture” of the shimmer, but it wears comfortably otherwise.

That’s a lot of gold shimmer! I have the impression that the shimmer in Malt Shimmer is a bit more tenacious, so if it migrates out of your natural lip lines, it’s not quite easy to clean up.

Finally, a brownish lipstick that doesn’t make me look sick!

Which would you pick if you had to, shimmery lipsticks or non-shimmery ones? I enjoy some shimmery lipsticks, but hypothetically if I had to pick one kind to stick to for the rest of my life, I might go with non-shimmery ones!

  • Kate Driveller

    Non-shimmer! Jelly FOR LYFE!
Um, but I’m really distracted by your collar peeping out in the second look. Gorgeous!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha thanks, Kate! I don’t mind shimmer, but it’s so hard to get shimmer RIGHT!

  • Charlotte MacDonald-Gaunt

Raspberry shimmer looks lovely and subtle, great color :o) Xx

    Makeup by Candlelight

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Charlotte, indeed. This is a formula you can wear with ease because it’s not in-your-face!

  • Eva

I expected a little more pigmentation to be honest

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh OK. I would say these are pigmented enough for me (great for every day), but the pigmentation level is indeed not through-the-roof.

  • Diana

I thought they would be SUPER shimmery and glittery but they’re quite subtle and cute!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh you see the shimmer well in real life, but it’s not obnoxious!

  • Lily

I was sent both of these, but Raspberry looks more pink and Malt looks more brown on me. And, erm, I prefer lip products without shimmer >_<

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

I think my lips are more pigmented, and since this is not a fully opaque formula, my natural lip color probably interferes with how the color looks! I like shimmer, but it’s so hard to get it right!

  • Bella

Mmmm, Bobbi’s lipsticks never disappoint! I am not a shimmery lipstick fan, though. I think it could be pretty ageing on someone of my vintage ;). I like my lipstick moisturising, not toooo matte, but not gloopy or shimmery either. Think Chanel Rouge Coco and Rouge Allure Velvet, Bobbi Brown Creamy lip colour, Nars Sheer Lipstick, Mac Lustre lipstick.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Bella, oh I’m sure you can pull of shimmery lipsticks! It’s strange, but the only NARS formula I like so far is their Satin Lip Pencil. Their lipsticks don’t really impress me much!

      • Bella

The lip pencils are definitely better (the Velvet Mattes are stunning too, actually they’re the only true mattes I don’t find drying) and the Nars lipsticks are definitely not the stars of their line-up. Do try the sheer lipstick in Dolce Vita and Damage, though ;).

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh yeah, EVERYBODY seems to love those two! I want to wait till I can go to a counter though.

  • rachlovespenguins

No shimmer for me, please! But you already knew that. Lol
I do own a BB Shimmer Lipgloss though, AND I picked up the new MAC Viva Glam Rihanna lipglass which is ridiculously sparkle-tastic. I’m not 100% shimmer-phobic. Just close. 😛

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yup! We both get whiny when the color fades but the shimmer is still there :p I actually prefer my glosses shimmery, although I really don’t wear them much!

  • Icaria

On that first pic your hair is va va vooom!!! I might enjoy colors like these but would get drugstore equivalent since I wouldn’t wear them often enough. For me the choice is easy, non shimmer. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Helene! Yeah, if I had to stick to one kind for the rest of my life, it’d be non-shimmery as well!

  • Ruby Chua

I feel the shimmers can make the lips look slightly frosty but I guess it depends on individual. I would choose non shimmer. :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Ruby, I get your point! I think it is possible to have some shimmer without the frosty look, but it really depends!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Yeah, I’m a non-shimmer too. I don’t mind shimmer in gloss, but in lipstick it’s just too much for me. These are pretty though!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, OK we’re the same. I actually like shimmery glosses as well.

  • Syirael

Raspberry Shimmer looks pretty in the tube! I was especting it to be a bit more opaque on, though. I don’t think it’ll de-throne Revlon’s Peach Parfait for me as a shimmery lipstick, but it is lovely :-)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girl, oh I’ve tried Peach Parfait but I didn’t like it :( The shimmer feels a bit rough on the lips and it travels around. Otherwise the color is cute though!

      • Syirael

Oh no! I do know what you mean about the grittiness, but fortunately the shimmer doesn’t travel on me. The Dior gloss I have on the other hand…

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha that’s strange! I have several shimmery Dior glosses, but I haven’t had the unfortunate case of traveling shimmer!

  • Larie

I don’t love shimmer in lipstick, either. They’re pretty, though! And they can make reds more interesting 😉

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Hey Larie, oh yeah definitely!

  • Xero

I like the way shimmer looks, but I don’t really like the glitter traveling on my face or getting stuck on other people when I kiss them.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hahaha same here! Some shimmer move around so much I end up finding it on my cheeks!

  • Makeup Morsels

Malt Shimmer looks beautiful on you! Goes to show you never know from the tube how it’ll end up looking on the lips. I’m with you, I don’t mind shimmer but if I had to pick one, I’d happily pass.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, MM! I really wouldn’t have guessed I’d like Malt Shimmer!

  • birtegovarts

    I really like Malt Shimmer!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You should check it out when it becomes available (sometime in March)!

  • Kiss & Make-up

I like the colors but the finish is too shimmery for my liking. Glossy, satiny, matte, creamy, that’s all fine by me. But shimmer is a bit tricky for me.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

This formula packs quite some shimmer, so you have to like shimmer to like it! Oh well, Bobbi Brown does have other great lipsticks!

  • Replica

Lovely shades on you, I haven’t looked at these as assumed they would have that gritty texture but I’ll have to check these out now :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Clare, they aren’t gritty per se but you will feel a tiny little SOMETHING when you press your lips together!

  • Sofia

I prefer non-shimmery ones, but in the swatches and on you they don’t look too shimmery at all!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

If you look at the close-ups, you definitely see quite some shimmer on my upper lip! I wouldn’t call them overly shimmery though :)

  • Liz

I used to not mind shimmer but started to get away from it at some point. Malt Shimmer looks interesting! Might have to test that at the counters.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, I never knew I’d actually be OK with a brownish lipstick on myself! Most of them make me look very ill!

  • Isabelle

Both are very pretty! I love the sheer finish, perfect for work. Just not sure how I like shimmer on the lips – I mostly just go for lots of shine :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

It’s actually pigmented enough to make a difference and last! In my book that’s the perfect amount of pigment for every day!

  • Natasja

Both are quite subtle but pretty… so now I must go try them myself .. thank you very much 😛 I will try to hold back the urge though.. because I have a no-buy.. which I am breaking – but only – for my weekend in Paris. One must buy things when in Paris. Of course. 😛

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha I’d like to hear what you think if you do! You can’t possibly impose a no-buy on yourself in Paris! That’s too cruel!

  • Jaa

I thought for sure Malt Shimmer would be too brown, too, but wow, it turns out a nice color on your lips! I prefer non-shimmer myself but these look gorgeous. I’m tempted! :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Jaa! See if you can have these applied at a counter. You do feel a bit of a texture, though it’s not too bad in my book.
