Take this from me: 2014 is going to be the year of hybrid lip products. One of the first examples, Lancome Lip Lover, will be available soon (April 1st for Belgium)! With a total of 18 shades divided into Basic Chic (more nude and MLBB shades) and Creative Chic (bold and fun), the formula boasts the color intensity of lipsticks, the shine of glosses, and the moisturization of lip balms!
Lancome Lip Lover has the same mechanism as Gloss in Love. In other words, if you are obsessed with the “click” of luxury lipsticks, you won’t be missing out here!
Just press the little button and voila, you can pull the applicator out. There is a little “window” through which you can see the color. It contains 4,5 ml (0.15 oz) and the RRP here is 25 euros.
Among many features, one thing I really like about Lancome Lip Lover is the applicator. It comes to a pretty fine point, which makes defining lip shape easy. What’s more, it is very soft and bouncy. I don’t know about you, but between a bouncy applicator and a traditional one, I’d always favor the bouncy version!
I was presented with most (if not all) shades in the line-up and was allowed to choose one. The moment I laid my eyes on *Rose Attrape-coeur (316), my heart was set!
Lancome Rose Attrape-coeur Lip Lover swatch. Left: one pass. Right: built up.
Rose Attrape-coeur is a lovely watermelon pink with the finest shimmer you can imagine. It has a light rose scent that is very different from everything else I have smelled before (although to be honest, this is the first Lancome lip product I own. If it is identical to their other formulas, I wouldn’t know). In any case, it is pleasant and disperses quickly. Fun fact: remember when I said the shades are divided into Basic Chic and Creative Chic? Apparently each category has a different scent!
Here you see Rose Attrape-coeur on my lips:
It goes on easily, and with one pass it is semi-opaque (with some translucency, not unlike certain lipsticks). Here is the thing: at first I thought: OK, it’s nice, but how is it different from a more pigmented gloss? 2 hours and a couple of drinks later I had my answer: the shine had faded at that point, and Rose Attrape-coeur started to look like a moderately pigmented lipstick! It took at least another 2 hours for it to fade, but even then, it left an even stain. I seldom say this, but my mind was SO blown! The “balm” aspect is also true, as Rose-Attrape-coeur is very comfortable and hydrating!
Here you see Rose Attrape-coeur on me. A large part of my surprise stems from the fact that most moderately pigmented lipsticks with a glossy finish wouldn’t even last half as long as this one does. In fact, most of the time I feel the need to reapply after a couple of drinks. If are also looking for a glossy nude that will last, I would encourage you to check Lip Lover out!
Just to give you a better idea about what you can expect…
Aren’t Creative Chic shades really bright (some of them look positively neon)?
Bottom line: Lancome Lip Lover is really a bit of everything. It goes on with a glossy shine, wears like a lipstick, and provides quite some hydration. It is truly a hybrid since it is also different from liquid lipsticks (most of them “set” and the finish isn’t as glossy). I like how it doesn’t migrate out of natural lip lines, which means the bolder shades are most probably worth looking into as well!
Are you sold? Come April, will you be checking Lancome Lip Lover out?
