Get Matchy-Matchy with Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Couture & Gloss d’Enfer

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum Couture, Gloss d'Enfer review

There seems to be a lot of “rules” regarding matchy-matchy. Apparently it’s chic to match your lippie with your nail polish, but it’s a big no-no if you do your mani and pedi with the same shade. Guerlain took matchy-matchy to a different level by naming some lipsticks/glosses after their classic fragrances. Since La Petite Robe Noire is quite a hit, the franchise has expanded to include a new perfume, *La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum Couture, as well as a *Gloss d’Enfer. Let’s do matchy-matchy the Guerlain way!

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Couture review

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Couture (RRP for a 50ml bottle as pictured: 89 euros) is conceived as a glamorous chypre fragrance. If you’ve read some of my thoughts about perfumes, you might remember that I am huge on chypre. It’s the first genre I fell in love with, and I am still infatuated with it!

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum Couture

Interestingly enough, I really don’t get much of the chypre vibe from Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Couture. In fact, it feels like a more tart and streamlined version of La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum. The top notes include bergamot and raspberry, which is a bit of a twist of the original cherry and red berries. Rose is the only heart note here, but I can’t quite pick it out. As a matter of fact, most of it smells, like I said, like a more tart and simplified version of La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum.

The base notes are supposed to be where the chypre comes in with patchouli, vetiver, tonka bean, and moss. However, all I get is a more powdery cherry, and that’s about it. La Petite Robe Noire Couture has become very faint after 7 hours. It won’t be completely gone for another 3 hours, but it is very elusive at that point. This is another slightly surprising part, since the original EDP lasts forever and a day on me!

All in all, I would say that Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Couture is slightly less assertive than the original EDP, which is a scent that you can’t fail to notice. It is a bit less gourmand, but it doesn’t stray far from the original.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Gloss d'Enfer (463) review

Now let’s move on to the namesake gloss, Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Gloss d’Enfer (463)!

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Gloss d'Enfer (463) closeup

La Petite Robe Noire Gloss d’Enfer is quite a darling shade! It might not be something that makes you go “wow” in the tube, but if you swatch it, you might be able to see it’s actually quite unique! I would describe it as a plummy peachy pink with multi-chrome shimmer.

La Petite Robe Noire is slightly paler than my natural lip color. It is semi-sheer, so my natural color comes through. I can’t really feel the shimmer on my lips, and it is comfortable to wear as well as hydrating. In other words, it is as good as the other Gloss d’Enfers I have tried!

You see the shimmer quite well in the lip close-up:

Here is how it looks in context:

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Gloss d'Enfer FOTD

It’s rather nude on me. In real life, I might layer it over a lipstick!

Have you sniffed Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire? I associate the scent with bleak daylight, long nights, and a nip in the air. Now come to think of it, I have a sample of the EDT somewhere as well. I might have to dig it out and see how I like it!

  • TracyBeautyReflections

This is pretty! I’d wear it! I’ve never sniffed La Petite Robe, but I like the sounds of a nip in the air!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Tracy, they are gourmand scents. I guess I just don’t think about food that much when it’s nice and warm LOL

  • syrena85

This is sooo gorgeous!! I have La Petite Robe Noire Couture left at my favourite Guerlain counter, waiting for me to finally arrive. I have also notice that the fragrance doesn’t last as long as the original edp which is a bit of a shame, cause I totally love it. Guerlain’s lip glosses are one of the better ones I have been using till now. They have lovely shades 😀 You look perfect, just as always.
I have only two days of hard work left now and then I will be finally back at home. Can’t wait!!!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Irena! Glad to hear you’re almost done with work! Have you tried the EDT? I must compare the three different versions at some point!

I am really not a gloss girl, but Gloss d’Enfer is really pretty great!

  • Whitney

Whooo, I have the La Petite Robe Couture, and if this couture version is not too different from the original, I won’t be tempted to try out another perfume! I thought they would’ve changed the bottle design, but they look exactly the same!

I wish I could get a nude lip using a pink lippie…does not work. I can never find anything that gives me a nude lip and looks good. By the way, love the collar detail on your top!!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Whitney, if you have the original, you might be able to skip this one. The bottle is a homage to vintage ones, so I think it’s here to stay!

Nude lips don’t tend to look all that great on me, either. I get much more of a kick out of everything else :p This is something I’d layer over a lippie in real life.

  • 38noodles

I’ll admit I’ve not given this frangrance a sniff simply because I dont like the bottle at all. If it was without the Robe design, maybe it’ll irk me less. Lol!
The gloss looks pretty on you though, and it would def be the type that adds extra dimension to a lippie underneath.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hahaha oh OK I haven’t thought about that! Totally agree with you on the gloss though!

  • Redhotjillypeppers

I absolutely love la petite robe noire ! Haven’t tried the couture version yet.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jill, you should take a whiff and see if you like this one! For me the two versions are very similar, although this one is tart and simpler.

  • Sofia

This bottle is really cute! I love this scent (when I’ve tried it in stores) and it was the kind of scent I would have bought without hesitation when I was “younger” – I may be wrong but it reminds me of Calvin Klein Euphoria – but for some reason I’m buying more oriental type scents now. The lip gloss does seem very pretty, but yeah I would wear it over a lipstick too!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sofia, hmm I actually used to own Euphoria, but I can’t remember if the two are similar! So what are some of your favorite oriental scents? I don’t think I have many of those at all!

  • Syirael

That gloss is so pretty! A perfect pink nude gloss for a smokey eye to wear with a little black dress (or rogue outfit for sophisticated dungeon raiding). I had a sample of the LPRN Eau de Toilette, and quite liked it, but I’ve never had a whiff of this version. I do like the pink gradient bottle, though!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Haha you always crack me up, Syl! I really must dig the sample of the EDT out. I took a whiff in a department store a while ago, and I think it has real potential!

  • BeautiesEva

the original PRN was too heavy for me :) i’m gonna test the couture one for sure

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Eva, that or try the EDT! I am not always in the mood for this scent, but sometimes it feels more right than everything else I own!

  • SmashinBeauty

In love with the Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Gloss

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You should check it out! The shimmer is even more stunning in real life!

  • Siri Lovise Eliassen

That lipgloss’s been on my wishlist since I started wearing LPNR edp. Still waiting for the Couture to launch here, but I’ve got a big haul coming once it does.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girl, let me know what you think about Couture! Also, maybe it’s a great time to pick the gloss up 😉

      • Siri Lovise Eliassen

I absolutely LOVED it! It’s a shame we’ve only got the 30ml in stock, because that won’t last for long. At first whiff it went weird, but I let it sit for ten minutes and then it went all lovey-dovey magical on me. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrists for the rest of the day. Don’t think I’m not considering it 😉 But I’m also still considering getting a new rouge automatique – Nahema’s tempting, as is shine in Pour Troubler. They just make too much pretty.

        • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

I have Nahema (it’s love) and I remember wanting Pour Troubler (then I got distracted)! Decisions decisions!

          • Siri Lovise Eliassen

I know, it’s fab on you 😉 I’m just worried, seeing as summer is short here, that come August I’d be all over my reds and berries, and Nahema’d be a regular in my box of Guerlain lippies, instead of in rotation. But it’s so on-trend, and lovely with a taupe smokey eye.

  • Kiss & Make-up

Ack! I think I need the La Petite Robe Noire Couture…!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Have you tried the other two versions?

      • Kiss & Make-up

I have the original yes. Love it!

  • peggy timmermans

I like the gloss colour and you’re right, it would work really wel on top of a lipstick.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

With my pigmented lips, lighter glosses need a base most of the time! I bet it’s really pretty layered though!

  • Judith

I received a sample of that fragrance. I will test it and get back to you.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Oh great! Keep me posted!

  • Icaria

I love LRN Couture! I like the fact that it’s a little more tart than the original and you’re right, it doesn’t have the same lasting power but it’s still pretty good. Sadly like LRN, Couture doesn’t develop much on me but that’s ok, I still like it! :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, I don’t even know why this smells like cherry to me because it doesn’t even contain any! For me the original is more like an explosion of all the notes at the same time as well, maybe except for the citrus in the beginning!

  • Shayne♥

aww how adorable is that ballerina pink color, this is one shade i wish i could wear but it just doesnt work well with my skintone. PS : i didnt know it’s a big no-no to do your mani and pedi with the same shade hehe :)

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Shayne, aww have you tried to layer it on a lipstick? Or is it the slight mauve in it that makes it tricky for your skin tone?

I don’t wear the same nail polish on my fingers and toes systematically, but I’ve done it and I don’t think it should be a taboo :p

  • Beauty Frontline

Looks quite subtle on you! xo

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Yeah I need a base for this to pop on my skin tone!

  • fancie

Such a pretty gloss! It looks so nice on you!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Fancie! It’s shimmery glossy goodness :)

  • Lys

Looks like a great combo. I love the design of the perfume bottle!

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

It’s actually the same bottle that they used a long time ago for their classic fragrances! It’s an homage to the brand’s history :)

  • Liz

Funny, I was just looking at the gloss today (so pretty!) and recently sprayed one of the versions of Petite Robe. I’ll have to check to see which one – think it was the EDP. I liked it but it’s going to be hard to wear as the weather warms up.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liz, yeah that’s the thing. It’s not a go-to for me, but when it’s cold and dark, sometimes it’s the only one I want to wear!

  • Liss Cope

The gloss is lovely! you’re right, it must look gorgeous over a pink nude lipstick – xxx

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Liss, I must try that sometime :)

  • Emae

I love that gloss, Sunny! Too bad I’m not a fan of glosses. :(

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Emae! I definitely wear lipsticks more often myself 😉 It’s such a windy country, and I have so much hair that can get stuck on my lips!

  • jenn @Abeautifulzen

after you reminded me that chrype was characteristic of one of my fav perfumes, i think i could go for this as well! ha matchy-matchy i remember hearing my aunt say those words once and i bursted out laughing. it just sounded so funny coming from her lips.

    • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hahaha your aunt sounds cute! I don’t get that much of the chypre vibe from this one, but try it on because you never know how it’ll work with your skin chemistry!
