So This Is How You Make Glittery Liquid Eyeliners Work! Rouge Bunny Rouge Tanzanite Essence Quartz Eyeliner

Rouge Bunny Rouge Quartz Eyeliner packaging

I never “get” glittery liquid eyeliners. Actually, scratch that. It took me a while to figure out why I favor gel liners in general: I never got used to the evaporating sensation of liquid eyeliners on my skin. Then one day I saw this post on Makeupandbeautyblog (thanks, Karen!). I had this Rouge Bunny Rouge Tanzanite Essence Quartz Eyeliner lying around (gift with purchase from a previous order), so I thought I’d give the idea a go!

RBR Tanzanite Essence Quartz Eyeliner

Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner is a line of sparkling liquid liners. Each contains 2,5 ml (0.08 oz) and goes for 28 euros. Do remember to shake it up and mix everything nicely before you pull the applicator out.

The applicator has decent yield for easy control, but not too soft or too scratchy. Tanzanite Essence is a medium blue with an insane amount of sparkle and a glazed finish. It does take a few seconds to dry, so don’t open your eyes too soon! The formula stays put on top of a gel liner the way I wore it, but it is not waterproof. After a few hours, I could see some stray sparkle in the undereye area, but that was about it.

This is how Tanzanite Essence swatches:

For the look, I used minimum eyeshadow with Rouge Bunny Rouge Bohemian Waxwing and Bobbi Brown Slate. I did my regular winged-out liner with Bobbi Brown Black Ink, before layering Tanzanite Essence in the middle. This is what I got:

Naturally, the only difference is with my monolid, the second I open my eyes, the pretty sparkling part just disappears…

But that doesn’t matter! At least when I blink, magic happens!

How do you use glittery liquid liners?  Is there another trick I should try?

  • http://redhotjillypeppers.com/ Redhotjillypeppers

I’m not really into glittery eyeliner but you make it work wearing it that way.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Jill! I don’t think I’ll start wearing one every day, but it’s nice to know this is an option!

  • http://beautyreflectionsblog.com TracyBeautyReflections

Love it! I do this too if I wear glitter liquids! Looks really pretty on you!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Tracy! I’m just happy that I figured out how to work with them instead of just sighing and putting them away!

  • http://lipstickintheattic.blogspot.com/ Judith

You can always wear it on the bottom if you want people to see it! It looks lovely layered, but not so practical when you’re in a rush in the morning!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Judith, yeah that’d be a great idea as well! I think this is more like “going out” makeup. Doubt very much I’d do it in the morning :p

  • 38noodles

Wipes drool off my face!! This is a stunning shade, and you made a beautiful look! Going to add this to my RBR wishlist

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, girl! Another shade that I think will look really cool on is Tiger Eye Essence!

  • http://truecolorjoy.com truecolorjoy

nice! is that tanzanite on your lower lashes by itself or something else? if it were a light or bright color glitter, i like them on my lower lash line or another line above my black liner sometimes.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Joy, nope that’s UD Gunmetal on its own! It’s such an under-utilized color in my Naked palette. Now come to think of it I should really try this on my lower lash line. I am just not big on the evaporating sensation :p

  • Icaria

Liquid is so hard to master but I do this once in a while with a purple one I have, somehow with a dark base it seems easier to apply. Too bad the sprakle of this one doesn’t last but it’s still a pretty color!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Helene, this one is really sparkling so even after it has lost a little, it stays that way! It’s not A LOT of fallout either ;)

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Interesting! I’ve never tried a glittery liquid liner and I’m with you there that the heavy liquid then evaporating feeling is weird. I have the Dolce & Gabbana black one (two absolutely brilliant sales assistants/amazing make up artists convinced me to get it – and I did not regret) and though I love the results I have to say I don’t use it often because of the weird feeling, I can feel its there. This glittery look though looks so artistic!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sofia, yeah same here. It took me a LONG time to figure out what it is about liquid eyeliners that bothers me, and I think it’s the evaporating thing (especially because I line between my lashes). This is actually super easy because you don’t need a lot of eyeshadow at all, and this particular eyeliner is easy to work with!

  • http://nothingspaces.com Carina

I love the Illamasqua liquid liner in Wisdom, though it’s not technically a glitter liner~!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Carina, ha I got that one and then promptly forgot about it, because I wasn’t using it right! I’ll have to dig it out and give it a second chance!

  • http://www.thepaintedrogue.wordpress.com Syirael

SO PRETTY :-D Although I’m having a hard time getting over the disappointment at this not being what I think of as the colour of tanzanite (my favourite stone!). ;-) Talk about first world problems, LOL

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hahaha I had to Google tanzanite, and you’re right, this needs to be a bit more violet to really match the color! It’s still pretty though ;)

  • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

quite pretty, especially under the eye. and i like the idea of a little ‘reveal’ when you blink lol

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, it’s actually UD Gunmetal on my lower lash line :p But yeah, I’ll have to line my eyes SO thickly for anything to show when my eyes are open. It’ll all be way too much if I want something glittery as well!

      • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

for a moment i thought i owned Gunmetal and my heart did little hurrahs but i dont :( Uzi (a grey glittery color) might work…

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Jenn, it’s just the Gunmetal eyeshadow in the Naked palette! If you own Naked, just pick some of that shade up with a pencil brush and you’re ready to go!

          • http://www.abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/ jenn @Abeautifulzen

OH! im dumb. lol i KNEW it sounded familiiar.

          • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

LOL you’re not dumb! Now you can try it, too :)

  • http://theconsciencefund.wordpress.com/ Divya

You are perfect with liquid eyeliners! such clean cat eye!

    Summer Skin Saviors | http://theconsciencefund.com

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Divya! I still have some good days and bad ones! Sometimes I can’t get both eyes to look even :p

  • http://eyespaintedblack.com/ Natasja

indeed! magic does happen. I like it! the glitters are nice and unexpected! I have a nice glitter powder thingy that comes in a similar bottle as this one.. but has a different applicator and I very often use this on top of my eyeliner as well.. for some shimmery sparkle :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natasja, great job! How do you make the powder stay tho? Do you get fallout during application (because I ABHOR that)?

      • http://eyespaintedblack.com/ Natasja

Hi Sunny! I really don’t do anything to make the powder stay, it just does.. but I tend to apply it when my eyeliner has started drying a bit so it won’t smudge but the application is still easy. I will look up that product so I can be more specific, if you like. I do have fall out every now and then but I try to prevent it by tapping on the opening or just softly blow it off (but that is a bit of a waste…) or I just do my eyes first and concealer/foundation afterwards.

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Natasja, interesting! In my imagination I’ll probably end up with loose glitter everywhere!

          • http://eyespaintedblack.com/ Natasja

I can completely understand! I should do a review on this product haha. Then I can explain it better after having looked at it thoroughly :)

  • http://modest-mix.blogspot.com/ Lys

This is awesome! The colour is really cool, you wear it beautifully over the black liner :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Lys! I think this will be fun in summer, or for a night out!

  • http://lamajesty.wordpress.com/ Emae

Gorgeous!!!! I should do this hahahaha

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Emae, if you happen to have a glittery liquid liner lying around, give this a go!

  • http://www.lenallure.com/ Lena L

Oh my my my! Tanzanite Essence looks so pretty on you! It is refreshing to see a glitter liner with color depths like this. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lena, I’ve got to say I don’t know that much about glittery liquid liners, but it doesn’t surprise me that RBR aced this!

  • http://shimmeryblack.wordpress.com/ Delia

I like the way you applied it over black eyeliner, it definitely looks more sophisticated!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Delia! It is also partly because I need some definition, and I don’t think a shade like this can do it on its own!

  • http://www.colormeloud.com/ Sara_BeauTime

This liner looks beautiful over a black, I have a few of these from UD, which are glitters suspended on a rather transparent base. RBR one looks to have a little bit of color at the base, which makes it even more interesting, blue always looks so stunning on you, love it. And the magic of it appears once you blink, so beautifully mysterious!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Sara, I’m pretty sure there is a base color here! I won’t start collecting glittery liquid eyeliners, but now I can probably tell what is cooler than others ;)

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Wowza! I LOVE what you did with this, Sunny! *writes down*

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks so much, Melissa! You should give this a go! Karen has so many cool eyeliner tricks!

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

I like glitter eyeliners, though I rarely find occasions for using it. I also apply as double liner (so above black liner, instead of over).

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Larie, oh I should try that next time!

  • http://loveand-laughter.blogspot.be AnneliesDP

Gives a really pretty effect to your eyes Sunny, love it!
    Love, Annelies

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Annelies! You should give it a go! With your eyes, the glitter will be visible even when your eyes are open :)

  • http://www.vibrantbeautyblog.com/ Jennifer Monforton

Oh wow, what a stunning effect! Looks amazing over the black liner. I’ve never tried RBR, but I’m heard great things! xo

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Jennifer! Oh you’ve GOT to try some stuff from RBR! Their eyeshadows are the best place to start!

  • http://MyLuciteDreams.com/ MyLuciteDreams

This look is stunning! I though the same about glittery liners as well. I recently discovered the Lorac 3D Luste Liner and get it… It’s like bam! Make the eyes sparkle, just like yours do hear. Love!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Taylor, I just had to Google some swatches and WOW, those are SO sparkling! I’ll probably dose it VERY carefully, but I think in moderation it could be really cool!

  • http://www.themistymom.com/ Shari

That looks too pretty! :) I dont have a glitter liner but I’ll make sure it’ll be RBR when I decide to get one!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Shari, I’m still eyeing Tiger Eye Essence here, though I really don’t know how often I’ll use it! I have rediscovered Illamasqua Wisdom which has been sitting forgotten in my stash as well. I might have to give it another go soon.

  • http://www.hellojaa.com/ Jaa

Great tip! Easy to do, too! Thanks for sharing, Sunny! :D

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You’re welcome, Jaa! Karen always has the coolest eyeliner tricks!

  • http://lippylash.blogspot.com lippylash

WAUW!!! I am super impressed! You look awesome. I think I might have to try this but first mastering the eyeliner technique period! ;)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Narasha! Some people don’t need much eyeliner, but I personally do. I think that’s why I “mastered” it LOL

  • http://naturelbellefemme.blogspot.com Pinks (@naturelbellefemme)

Nice tip. Eye look is superb dear. Happy weekend :-)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

You too! This would be so cool for a party or something :)

  • Jacqueline Ma

I love how you layered it to get that sparkly effect. Like you, the moment I open my eyes I basically can’t see any effect but knowing that I’m wearing it makes me feel good. I love sparkly eye liners but haven’t been wearing them often. Thanks for giving me inspiration, I’ll take out my sparkly eye liner today and wear it out. :)

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks, Jacqueline! People will definitely see this when we blink though! It’s pretty sparkling! I hope your experiment went well! xx

  • Replica

Thats a great idea, and you liner application is just so precise, so lovely on you x

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

      Thanks so much, Clare!!!

Thanks for the layering tip Sunny. Will try that as soon as I get my hands on some glittery liners.

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Karen does give the best eyeliner advice! I have a couple of them lying around. Now that I have finally figured out how to make them work for me, I might actually wear them!

  • Lily

Nice! I usually wear a thicker black liner before tracing a thin line of the glitter liner on top of the black. It does crease so a good primer is a must!

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Lily, I should give that a go next time! I always ALWAYS wear a primer though. With my oily monolids, I just never know if I’ll end up with eyeliner on my cheeks (or at least that’s how it feels).

  • http://www.queenofallyousee.com/ Shayne♥

i feel like the glitter liner near the waterline only looks good on girls with flawless under eye areas like yours and kpop stars :) i feel like it can magnify under eye lines which i have, but i will not give up on this idea tho i might try it again sometime :D

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey Shayne, oh you flatter me :p I think it ha a lot to do with the shade, no? Reddish shades tend to worsen the darkness in my opinion. Otherwise, I’m sure you can pull it off!
