Mr. Tom Ford for sure knows how to drive the ladies wild, and this time he’s doing it with the help from 50 boys! The Tom Ford Lips & Boys collection relaunches today. You’ve got to act fast because it’s an understatement to say they’re selling like hot cakes everywhere in the world! Let’s take a look at my picks, Francesco and Diego. Maybe one (or both. No judgement here) of these fine Mediterranean boys will find his way to your heart!
From left to right: Tom Ford True Coral, Tom Ford Diego, and Tom Ford Cherry Lush.
In my humble opinion, part of the reason why the boys have had so much success is related to their size (OK, that didn’t sound so risqué in my head…). They’re smaller than Mr. Ford’s regular Lip Colors, and bigger than the miniature gift-with-purchase version. I find it easier to get a clean application without a lip brush (which is something I can’t say about the regular ones), but at the same time, they aren’t dinky to the point that they become hard to maneuver. What’s more, the price tag is a lot more palatable. Per gram/ounce, they are a slightly better deal.
Packaging-wise, it is not because they aren’t full-size that the brand phoned it in. They still have some heft, and none of the details is lost. However, do note that they are a bit of a fingerprint magnet!
I picked up Francesco (30) and Diego (37). I would have loved to own Giacomo as well, but that was one of the first shades to sell out here. Never mind. Between a fuchsia-tinted berry and a slightly reddish coral, I’ve got the whole world in my hands!
Formula-wise, Francesco and Diego aren’t all that different. The texture is smooth so it glides on beautifully, and it is more lightweight than some of Tom Ford’s regular Lip Colors (which are more densely pigmented but feel thicker). They deliver great color payoff in the sense that they are pretty much opaque with one pass, but they aren’t so saturated that you can’t wear them with ease (at least in my book. Your comfort level might vary). They both wear for around 6 hours while being decently hydrating. The fading is an even process, and they leave a bit of a stain.

I find that Francesco pulls a lot more berry and less fuchsia on me than the swatches I was able to find, and Diego a lot less red. I do really love both anyways tho!

This is actually my Christmas look!
All in all, while I wouldn’t name the boys as my favorite lipstick formula ever, I would highly encourage you to pick one or two up (or at the very least swatch some) if you like lipsticks. I mean, let’s face it: a) It’s Tom Ford. You know you want it. b) They are impossibly cute, and by weight they are a better deal than their full-size counterparts. c) With 50 shades to choose from, there’s got to be one or two that speaks to you! d) Didn’t you hear me? It’s Tom Ford!
PS: I’m going to let you in on a secret here. I purchased two of each shade so that I can make someone happy by hosting another giveaway! Keep your eyes peeled sometime next week. In the meantime, I’ve got to say the giveaway I’m currently hosting is pretty killer, too!
Have you indulged in the boys? Which ones did you pick? If you walked away with just one or none at all, I salute you! Also, out of sheer curiosity: does any of the 50 names remind you of someone in your life (or someone who was in your life. No need to go into detail)? I’m afraid that’s not the case here!
