Long-lasting eye makeup is good in my book, and when I had the chance to some of the Make Up For Ever’s new lines a while ago, I couldn’t resist taking 20E Aqua Shadow home! These are supposed to be waterproof and crease-resistant. Do they sound about perfect for summer?
Aqua Shadows come in 12 shades and contain 4 grams. 7 of them are light, shimmery/metallic shades like the 20E I am about to show you, and 5 are dark matte colors. Out of the whole bunch 20E caught my eye the most, and I couldn’t resist giving it a try!
There isn’t too much to be said about the “packaging,” though I do have to tell you that the cap fit on the pencil extremely well. You can close it up very snugly, which will prevent the shadow from drying out. Bonus point for that!
20E is a taupe, but a very shimmery champagne kind of taupe that I imagine is easier to wear. The finish is metallic, and if you blend it out you can see all the fine shimmer. It is a great all-over-the-lid shade as I find it pretty brightening. The texture spot-on. It is creamy enough to glide on easily, but not so creamy that it becomes too soft and melty. I have used it several times now, and still there is no need to sharpen it yet, so I imagine this pencil will last quite a while. The color payoff of 20E is excellent! I need one pass for vibrant, opaque color! Once it’s on, you have a little time to blend the edges out, but it sets fast, and once it sets it’s not going anywhere!
Without a primer, it lasts 8 hours on me. After that it starts creasing/fading a little on the inner corners close to my “crease” (OK this is hard to explain. My “crease” is tucked under my visible lids when my eyes are open. Does that make sense?). With a primer it lasts all day. Alternatively I actually don’t mind carrying this pencil with me for some touch-up after 8 hours. As a general rule I don’t, but this is so much easier to carry than other cream shadows I own, I don’t need a separate brush, and it doesn’t get messy when it fades a little.
Some more pictures with my eyes looking down so you can see the color on me. I used 20E all over my lids with some MAC Satin Taupe blended on the outer half. I find this color easy enough to pair with other shadows though, so don’t worry even if you are just beginning to play with eye makeup!
Excuse the weird expression, but here you see the metallic finish:
Bottom line: I would recommend Aqua Shadows (at least the light shimmery ones. I heard the matte ones work a little differently) for quick summer looks! They’re easy to use, hold up well, and easy to carry for quick touch-ups if you ever want to do that!
Have you tried the Aqua Shadows? What are your favorite jumbo pencils? How do you keep your eye makeup going in the height of summer?
