Well-Worth the Wait: Dior Golden Savannah

You might remember that a while ago, I attended the Dior Golden Jungle launch in Taipei. Besides the Crocodile Leather Effect Nails, another piece that I fell in love with was the Golden Savannah palette. Well, today I can finally tell you if it’s the neutral quint of my dreams this season!

Packaging-wise everything is Dior-standard with Golden Savannah, from the royal blue case, the black velvet pouch, to the sponge applicators. The sponge applicators do serve a purpose pretty well when it comes to this quint, and I’ll tell you why!

The lower-left corner houses my favorite shade of the quint. It is a mid-to-dark-toned brown with a good dose of olive mixed in, and on my skin tone it is very close to a khaki. The sheen is also soft and subtle here. It is almost cool-toned, and I find it interesting to see a khaki that is not very golden or warm-toned.

On the top-left corner, we have a beige with a yellow tinge and golden sheen. I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t do much for my skin tone, but the subtle sheen gives my eyes a soft glow when used on the inner half of the lids.

A warm coppery-bronze can be found on the upper-right corner. It is the shade that has the most sheen here (with the exception of the center shade), but still it is nothing in-your-face.

On the lower-right corner there is a charcoal brown, and at certain angles I can see some plum. This is again something I don’t have many of in my collection, as it is rather neutral.

The four shades discussed above are all finely-milled and pigmented. The beige takes a bit more building up to show on my skin tone, but only just a bit. They also blend into each other effortlessly, which is always a major plus!

Last but not least we have an interesting gold foil in the center. The base is very sheer, and the sparkle flakes are rather big. I am pretty sure it is designed to be layered, and I love a dab of it in the center of my lids. There isn’t much fallout once it’s in place, but inevitably there would be some in the application process. I find it the easiest to use the included sponge applicator to dab it on, and you might not want to swipe this around!

Here is another shot of the 5 shades swatched together:

What I love about this palette is you only use one lighter shade and one darker for delicately-defined eyes as well as cranking it up with the combination of more shades or doing easy smokey eyes with it. I do find it a bit of a pity there isn’t something that I can highlight my inner corners with, but it’s not a problem I can’t solve!

For the look I use the coppery bronze for the inner half, olive brown on the outer half, and the charcoal brown in the outer v and into my crease. There is also a dab of the sheer gold in the center of my lids:

If you feel like going all out with this quint, I bet it layers well on top of bronze, antique gold, or khaki cream shadows!

Bottom line: For the beautiful finish, great pigmentation, and fantastic colors, I love Dior Golden Savannah for the capacity of going from very simple everyday looks to the effortlessly dramatic. I would have loved to see one shade that’s good for inner corner highlight, but it’s something I can fix easily so it’s not a big deal in my book!

Have you got the opportunity to check out Dior Golden Savannah? Are you also a fan of the satin texture? What is your favorite Dior quint? I’d love some recommendations!

Sunny, your beauty culture translator xx

PS: This palette is sadly unavailable in Belgium. However, the good news is it IS in France, and it’s not that far away!
