Emerald, this is Your Year: Get Your Green on with Pantone 2013 Color of the Year!

I really only noticed the whole Pantone Color of the Year thing since last year. It was tangerine tango, and back at the time it was announced I didn’t have any orange in my collection. This year it’s different, because it’s emerald and green is one of the colors that I am the most obsessed with! Today I’m showing you 10 pieces in my collection. They might not be all be strictly emerald in Pantone’s definition, but they’re guaranteed to give your looks an interesting twist!

First up we have the pressed eyeshadows. The darker shade in Hourglass Dune Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo might not be as green as I had wanted it to be, but over time it has proven to be well-used and loved. Wet n’ Wild’s Color Icon Singles have always been a big hit, and Envy does live up to its good name! MAC Humid is one of the first eyeshadows that taught me colors are really fun. Even if you are normally skeptical about wearing green, give Humid a try because it’s so easy to incorporate it with neutrals as well!

L’Oreal Emerald Lame Infallible Eyeshadow (I believe it is called Golden Emerald in the US) is something worth looking for if you are a green fiend, particularly if the Infallibles last well on you. Just swipe it on and maybe blend a brown into your crease, and you’re ready to go!

Bobbi Brown Forest Shimmer Ink Gel Liner is more like an interesting mixture of khaki, brown, and gold. Not only is the color very interesting and versatile (think about how many shades it works with), the formula goes on nice and opaque. A lot of non-black gel liners have quite a bit of underlying sheerness that you have to keep building up to get rid of, but not this one. It’s a softer alternative to black, and since it’s so many of my favorite shades rolled into one, I thought it’s worth mentioning here!

Here we have Tarte SmolderEYES Rainforest Black (from the Tarte holiday pencil set), Urban Decay Mildew, and Urban Decay Stash 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. Lining your lower lash line with a pop of green is a coy way of spicing things up without shouting “COLOR!” if it’s not (yet) your thing. On top of that, they make great eyeshadow bases as well!

Last but not least, let’s dress our tips in green as well! Here we have a england Dragon and China Glaze Jolly Holly (I believe this one is limited edition from some years ago). If you like green or holo, you really really need to lay your hands on a england Dragon!

How about you? Is emerald or green in general your thing? What are some of your favorite green pieces in the collection?

It’s not my thang haha! But I’ll be trying that’s for sure! I want to get an eyeliner I think. Baby steps into the bright greens!

    • Sunny

Haha yes, that sounds like a good idea! I always start experimenting with an eyeliner on my lower lash line. I think that’s how I got into green to begin with!

I do have some green eyeshadows and should wear them more often !

    • Sunny

I agree! You can always pair them with neutrals if you don’t want your lids to shout “COLOR!”

Nice picks Sunny! When it comes to emeralds, I’m more of an eyeshadow/eyeliner person. :)

    • Sunny

Thanks Chris! I bet green looks great on you!

    Hey hun,
I think emerald is a great color mainly for the inner lids.
Btw I just swatched the hourglass eyeshadow duo and the color is fantastic! I am sooo tempted to get it!!

    • Sunny

Hey Meryl, I do like to have a good green all over my lids and blend the edges out with a matte shade that is close to my skin tone. Dune is amazing. I know I was half-hearted about it in the beginning, but I have changed my mind and I reach for it very often!

wow! never seen so much green in one article 😀

    • Sunny

LOL thanks! I guess that is the point 😉

Emerald!! Green in general was my fav of the favs colours for a very long time, I could never have enough, lol. Now it is lavender I would say )or maybe it’s seasonal, I don’t know) but green remains my eyeshadow colour N1 I think. I spotted some of my favs here, ah, emerald! I also like fashion in this colour but I find it hard to find something.

    • Sunny

Haha high five for green fiends! I can’t tell if I like purple or green more when it comes to eyeshadows. I can’t wear ALL greens well, but some are just brilliant!

Great post, Sunny! I’ve been planning my Pantone Emerald post for forever and STILL haven’t gotten around to it. Maybe your post will kick me in the butt to finish it 😛

    • Sunny

Thanks Becca! Can’t wait to see the greens in your collection!

Does MAC Humid have shimmer? I’ve been wearing Putty (a light matte green) as a base & I’m almost out. It was perfect for a neutral look on my green eyes & could be worn with everything. As for the more pigmented green I’m not so sure I could pull them off. I tried a crayon the other day and it was so so. I’ll have to experiment more. :)

    • Sunny

Hey hon, Humid has more of a sheen but not shimmer. I don’t think I can pull of a matte green, but a lot of greens I own have this golden tinge/sheen so they work fine on me! Keep experimenting!

      • http://icarias.blogspot.ca Icaria

Nice! I can work with sheen. Thank you for the extra info. xx

This is a great color that matches a lot of looks ! Must use it more often !

    • Sunny

Yes I agree! Green is less intimidating as it seems!

I’m usually not a fan of greens but these colors are lovely.

    • Sunny

Thanks Marla! There are so many shades of green I’m pretty sure you can find some that work for you!

I don’t love emerald, but do love other greens – khakis, olives, and golden greens especially!

    • Sunny

Haha same here! A matte emerald wouldn’t look too good on me.

I know this is a trend, but, i really don’t like green on myself..

    • Sunny

Haha there are so many different greens though. Maybe some would rock on you!

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

    I loooooooooove green 😀 😀 😀

    • Sunny

Yaaay one more for the team!

  • http://www.chloeash.com Lily (@ChloeAsh)

I love greens, but I’m not too sure about emerald greens though. Greens that flatter me are usually warmer ones and I especially love khakis :-)

    • Sunny

Oh yeah Khaki! That’s definitely one of my favorites ever!

  • http://mylucitedreams.com Taylor

Lovely collection of emerald! I’m eyeing that Bobbi Brown liner, I love them! The loreal infallible definitely impressed me and of course that Dragon polish, love!

    • Sunny

Hey Taylor, you have to give Bobbi Brown Forest Shimmer Ink a chance! Most shimmery gel liners need building up, but not this one.

  • Libby

I AM SO ON BOARD. Sorry for the abuse of capslock there but green has always been a favorite color of mine, especially emerald or forest green, gaaaaaah, I cannot resist and am awaiting all the prettiness yet to come 😀

    • Sunny

Yay I’m glad to hear you like green too! I’m sure there will be many color of the year-inspired launches this year, so we can make our collections even bigger!
