What’s On My Night Table (Mini Aesop & Caudalie Reviews)

Mostly Sunny Night Table

“What’s in my bag” posts are popular for a good reason. I have never attempted to do one because I carry minimal makeup around, and I will more likely bore you than anything else. The amount of stuff I have on my night table however, is a different story. I thought I’d combine a sneak peek at my night table with some short reviews, so sit back and enjoy!

The first thing you spot is probably the Philips Wake-Up Light. I’ve had this for a few months, and I can testify it makes getting up less painful! During the winter months when natural daylight was scarce, it was a life-saver. It works by giving light bit by bit half an hour before the alarm goes off, and a lot of the times I find myself awake before the birds start tweeting (you can pick other sounds such as a running creek, the radio, or combining with your iPhone though that requires a different model)! It’s much more gentle than the sharp noise most alarm clocks make, yet my body is more awake than ever! Highly recommended for people who have problems getting up in the morning!

Caudalie Vine Body Butter, Hand and Nail Cream, Foot Beauty Cream

On the left you see three Caudalie body products, including the Foot Beauty Cream, Vine Body Butter, and Hand and Nail Cream. All three smell gorgeously fresh and typically Caudalie, and all of them have an agreeable texture. I’ve been using them for a bit more than two months now. Since I started in winter, I can say they are moisturizing enough (unless your skin tends to be painfully dry). I have purchased and repurchased the Hand and Nail Cream in the past. It is something I prefer for daytime, as it is absorbed very fast with no residue while leaving a film of protection (if I just rinse my hands with water it doesn’t come off). I haven’t gone as far as to having a different foot cream for daytime, but the Foot Beauty Cream is something I can use right before jumping into my socks without this awkward greasy feeling. At the same time, it has definitely kept my feet soft! Sandal season is coming and it will be the ultimate test. I can’t wait to see if it can measure up!

You have read about the Escents Aromatherapy Roll-On here, and the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Honey Lip Balm here. I am halfway through my second pot of Nuxe lip balm, and I’m pretty sure I will repurchase when it’s gone!

Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Balm

A while ago I found out Aesop launched the new Reverence Aromatique Hand Balm. I owned and loved their Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm (I have no idea why I never reviewed it, but it’s long gone now), so when a supposingly more potent version with lactic acid came out, I needed to give it a try!

I have to start by saying the smell is probably not for everyone. It contains bergamot rind and petitgrain (an essential oil extracted from the leaves and green twigs of the bitter orange plant), but it smells most strongly of vetiver root. It is incredibly earthy and instantly addictive for me, though I have to acknowledge it isn’t a crowd pleaser. You might want to at least sample the scent before taking it home!

You can see how big the tube is and the ingredient list here:

Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Balm ingredient list

Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Balm is a wonderful hand cream because it’s something light enough for daytime. However, if I slather more on, it works well throughout the night. My nails instantly feel stronger with this cream, and this is not something every hand cream does. Most of the time I can tell if I prefer a certain hand cream for daytime or bedtime, but Reverence can definitely be both! Out of the two Aesop hand creams, Reverence is my favorite. It is more moisturizing, and OK, let me just admit the scent had me at hello!

Next to Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Balm you can see Aesop Rosehip Seed Lip Balm. I have reviewed this before here. If lipsticks tend to dry your lips out, I would strongly encourage you to give this one a go. I can use a thin layer or two when I’m doing the rest of my face. By the time I’m done most of the cream has already been absorbed my my lips (with hardly any residue), and they will be prepared for some color!

What’s on your night table? What are some of the body care products you’ve been using?

Girl, I didn’t know you had a wake-up light like that! I need to know all about it! Love this post so much, gimme more! ^^ I’m kinda curious about the Aesop hand crème scent now, I wonder if I like it, lol! :p

    • Sunny

The Wake-Up Light is great for anyone who finds waking up difficult, I’d say! I’ll show you the hand cream next time. It’s “interesting” according to Dr. D, but I loved it the second I smelled it!

  • http://www.unprofessionalbeautyblog.com Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog

I love the reviews, but I’m most interested by that wake-up light. I didn’t even know such thing existed. The concept sounds really cool, and I wonder if they have it here in the U.S.

    • Sunny

Haha yeah the Wake-Up Light is genius no? I think it is available in the US as well. You should definitely check it out!

  • http://kissandmakeupsbeautyblog.wordpress.com/ Kiss & Make-up

Organized night stand. It almost looks like a display, lol :-) I have that wake-up light as well, by the way, but because I could only bring so much when we first came to Switzerland, I left it in Belgium (stupid stupid stupid). I have to wait until July when the moving truck comes to get it back… :-(

    • Sunny

Oh I am a bit of a neat freak so everything kind of lines up in my house (but no, I’m not a psychopath LOL)! I’m so sorry to hear about you having to leave your Wake-Up Light here! There must be a lot of natural light in Switzerland now no? You should be OK till July I hope!

    Hello SUnny,
I like the idea of this post! And look at that Caudalie :) The hand cream sounds interesting, it seems like it does its job very well. and I believe it would be great to be put on my office desk too!

    • Sunny

Thanks Meryl! I prefer the Caudalie hand cream for daytime. I’m sure this is my 3rd or 4th tube!

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I totally need that wake-up light! No one I know actually has one so this was the first first-hand testimonial I received. Thanks!

And I want to go on the Caudalie regimen… if only I could finish the 10482 body products already socked away at home. LOL

    • Sunny

Aww you’re welcome, Liz! If you live anywhere the days get VERY short in autumn/winter, the light is such a life-saver!

I don’t tend to hoard too many body lotions, but I know what you mean. I won’t show you what’s in my shower because you’ll see 20 shower gels :p

      • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

Actually, I’d love to see all 20. LOL

  • http://bronzerbunny.com Joyce (bronzerbunny)

i want that philips light!!! i have the philips hue light bulbs and i absolutely love them!!! lol

    • Sunny

Haha I haven’t tried that! For me this was very practical when there was next to no natural light all day!

  • http://procrastinatingpretty.blogspot.com Procrastinator

I am such a nosy person, I love these posts! I’m still so sad I didn’t get to visit you and Phil in the summer to check out the masses of Aesop that you guys have available!

    • Sunny

Haha I knew there’d be a couple of readers like you out there :p Can you get Aesop online? I know some webshops that ship all over the world!

  • http://mirror-reality.com/ Philippe

I got a wakeuplight on the wishlist.. ugh

    • Sunny

You can wait till autumn/winter comes around again though. For the moment we have an abundance of natural light!

  • http://www.glambunctious.com Kristen @ Glambunctious

Fun post! I love these kinds of posts! It’s like getting a sneak peek into someone’s routine versus a standard product review!

    • Sunny

Thanks, Kristen! It was fun to do, though figuring out how to photograph the night table was something else. I think I sat in front of it for half an hour LOL

  • http://lifeandlensofbeauty.blogspot.hk Jenni @ lifeandlensofbeauty

I love both Aesop and Caudalie for their brand philosophy and most important – their SCENTS!! great bedtime staples and I am curious about the wake-up light too!

    • Sunny

Hey Jenni, glad to hear you’re also a fan of Aesop and Caudalie!! If you have problems getting up especially when there is little natural light, I would encourage to take a look at the wake-up light! It wakes me up in the most gentle and natural way possible. No more “OMG my alarm clock is going off!!!” panic moment here!

  • http://www.ziba-blog.com Ziba

Hey Sunny!!! In fact, I’m having a Caudalie giveaway right now on my blog now which includes that very same hand and nail cream. As well a full-size Caudalie moisturizer that I really love!!! So glad I saw your review of the hand cream, I’m going to share this on twitter. And yeah, that wake up light is a great idea if you live high up in the north during winter! Wish I had a wake up light like that this past winter… Bisou ma belle! xoxo

    • Sunny

Thanks for sharing, Kareen! You should get one for this autumn/winter. It really helps! Waking up is much less painful with this baby :)

  • IndigoKirRoyale .

Ooh…nice bedside collection! Love that Phillips light, too – how clever is that! ^_^ I, too, love the Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm which I just repurchased in the pump bottle, because I’m addicted to the scent and feel! I did sniff the Reverence version and I must admit was put off by the strong, sharp scent myself! I have also recently tried the Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream (mini version from a set), which I’m quite impressed with also for the same reasons you’ve described. Now I’m keen to try their foot cream thanks to your review. >_< Thanks for this lovely post. x

    • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girl, I have to bust the light out again! We switched to winter time the day I left, so by the time I go back it’ll be dark all the time! I am so big on the scent of Reverence haha. My boyfriend said it’s “interesting,” and I can definitely see it’s not for everyone. For me it’s wonderfully earthy!

I use Caudalie more often during daytime, and I have repurchased it in the past! The foot cream is definitely repurchase material as well. Here they’re both very reasonably priced, though I don’t even have the heart to ask how much they cost in Australia :(

      • IndigoKirRoyale .

Hi Sunny, I don’t actually know if Caudalie is sold in Australia. I purchased mine in Sephora *grin* (Hooray for parcel forwarding). As for Aesop, the Resurrection Duet (hand wash and balm) 500 ml each retails for AU$130 which is about 90 Euros? How does that compare over there? Wouldn’t surprise me if it was overpriced here – everything else is! *sigh*

        • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hey girly, Caudalie is actually much cheaper on UK-based websites (Naturisimo, Beauty Expert…) just for your reference! They also tend to ship for free with no/low minimum purchase. I get my Aesop from Beauty Expert, and the price is indeed much better than the local price in Oz. So sorry to hear that! I hope now you have more options tho!

          • IndigoKirRoyale .

OMG, thanks sooo much for those recommendations Sunny! I love to save when I can so I will definitely check those sites out! x
