As part of my trying more NARS lipsticks project, I picked up Montego Bay Pure Matte Lipstick a while ago. When NARS says pure matte, they mean it! Montego Bay definitely has one of the most matte textures I have tried!
NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks come with the same packaging as their concealer sticks. The thin black tube has a slightly rubberized finish.
Montego Bay is a matte rosy pink. The texture is harder because the finish is quite matte. As a result, I wouldn’t say it glides on. At the same time though, it doesn’t really tug. It deposits an extremely thin layer of product that packs a lot of pigment. When I press my lips together, they feel slightly powdery, but it is not uncomfortable to wear. For such a light shade, Montego Bay has amazing staying power. It doesn’t really transfer when I drink, and basically it will only break down if I eat. It leaves a light stain as well. It is not moisturizing, but it is not drying, either. For such a lightweight shade with a rather matte finish, I find this acceptable.

What I like the most about Montego Bay is the fact that it makes my teeth whiter for some reason. Most of the time, shades that lean warm don’t tend to do this, but Montego Bay does!
Just to prove my point (you have seen this look here):
Bottom line: For a lipstick with a pretty matte finish, NARS Montego Bay Pure Matte Lipstick manages not to be drying. It is lightweight and packs a lot of pigment. Understandably, it has a harder texture. However, the good lasting power might make up for that!
Have you tried any NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks? What is your favorite matte lipstick formula? I was going to say Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet, but I have only tried two so far, and I have no idea how representative those are!
