Remember how several brands launched liquid lipsticks last autumn/winter? The trend died down in spring and summer, but it’s coming back with Estee Lauder‘s The Metallics Fall Collection in the form of Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer! I got to test out Wet Plum, which is incredibly rich and juicy!
The packaging of Estee Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer (RRP in Belgium: 24,83 euros) is identical to their lip gloss. The formula has a light vanilla scent, but I can hardly smell it both during and after application. The sponge applicator is on the larger side, but with a little patience, it is possible to apply precisely with it.
Wet Plum is a deep plum. The texture resembles a thick gloss, yet it is not sticky, tacky, or gloopy. It goes on smoothly with an insane amount of pigment. This is a formula that doesn’t set, so there would be quite a bit of transfer when you eat/drink. However, it does not migrate. I repeat: it does not migrate. I was fully expecting it to smear all the way down on my chin after a full meal, but except for a little bit of shine that got a little out of my Cupid’s bow, everything was in place! I would say that if I look very closely, it feathered a tiny little. Nevertheless, this didn’t get worse or even become visible within the normal viewing distance. Estee Lauder promises 6 hours of wear time, and I’d say you can hold them to it. Wet Plum endured a full meal and many, many drinks. It’d probably take two full meals before you need to reapply! It fades evenly as well, so you don’t have to worry about the awkward dark ring around the edge!
Here is how Wet Plum swatches. Left: one pass. Right: built up.
A couple more shots with Wet Plum on me:
Isn’t this pretty intense? It fades to a soft and pretty plummy pink as well, which I adore! Also, did I mention it’s hydrating? My lips are soft and plump after 6 hours!
For those who might want to see it more clearly, here is a closeup:
Bottom line: Liquid lipsticks are tricky, but Estee Lauder has a winner in their new Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer! It packs an insane amount of pigment, goes on smooth without being tacky. and lasts forever! This is a formula that doesn’t set, but it doesn’t migrate. Wet Plum is a rich show-stopping shade that is great for autumn. It’s definitely worth checking out!
Have you tried any liquid lipsticks? I have tried a few, but this one and the Guerlain one are the only two that are practical enough in my book (no smudging or flaking off). Also, I need your opinion: do you guys want to see closeups or not? I think it’s great for the details not to be lost in a full-face photo, but it’s also a little unnerving to see one in a way. Maybe I’ll continue to do both?
