Peonies might be on their way out, but thanks to Burberry, the glorious scent will go on living in the form of the brand new *Burberry My Burberry Eau de Toilette! Some of you might remember the original Burberry My Burberry Eau de Parfum and subsequently the highlighter from last year’s holiday collection that bears the same scent. For me personally, things are getting better in this lighter interpretation of the original!
In terms of flacon, Burbery My Burberry Eau de Toilette (90 ml/3,0 oz as pictured: 111 euros. Available on August 18th) has kept the same silhouette with a lighter color theme. It will be available in 50 ml and 90 ml sizes. I wish a smaller version would be available, as many of us probably have a hard time using up a fragrance before it expires by now!
When I tried Burberry My Burberry Eau de Parfum, my conclusion was that I like it but wish the notes would be more distinct, as they tend to be so meshed together that at times it feels a little static. While you can definitely recognize My Burberry Eau de Toilette because it retains the character of the Eau de Parfum, I prefer the eau de toilette out of the two as there is a lot more “interaction” going on among the notes!
Burberry My Burberry Eau de Toilette starts of with fresh-smelling lemon blossom and sweet pea. It is somehow citrus-y, but much more fragrant and floral than the scent you would typically associate with citrus notes. The heart notes have to be the best part of this fragrance with peony, peach blossom, and freesia. If you have smelled peonies, you know that they have a slight “sourness” to them. In this case, the sourness keeps the very floral heart fresh and youthful. It also has a fruity aspect that rounds things up a little without being too sweet.
A few hours later, Burberry My Burberry Eau de Toilette dries down to musk, moss, and Damask rose. This is probably the most similar part to the original eau de parfum, but it is less warm and brighter. The scent has decent sillage and great lasting power. For a lighter fragrance, the 9+-hour wear time is impressive!
All in all, while I don’t systematically like the concept of flankers, Burberry My Burberry Eau de Toilette is in a way better. I like that it is lighter and brighter without being unsubstantial, and that all the notes come together while still retaining their character. I might be biased, but I really think peony brings a joyful and fresh aspect to the scent that makes it so much more “alive!”
Have you taken a whiff of My Burberry Eau de Parfum? Do you think the Eau de Toilette would be more your thing? Do you tend to like flankers or not so much?
