Apparently I am riding the blue wave this week, so I thought I might as well show you *Guerlain Beaugrenelle Écrin 6 Couleurs while I am at it. Do things get better beyond the spectacular compact and embossing? Let’s find out!
Guerlain Écrin 6 Couleurs is housed in an exquisite metal compact that snaps shut with a magnet. It is pure eye candy and just feels incredible to hold. Trivia of the day: an Écrin 6 Couleurs compact weighs 170 grams (6 ounces), which is the equivalent of two Rouge G’s.
After opening up the lid, you will see a black cover with mirror on the other side as well as a duo-ended brush.
Guerlain Beaugrenelle Écrin 6 Couleurs is a blue/grey-themed palette. It packs 5 eyeshadows as well as a gel liner. The eyeshadows range from matte to shimmery, and the shades go well together.
Guerlain Beaugrenelle Écrin 6 Couleurs swatches:
Guerlain never officially reformulated their eyeshadows, but with the new quads they launched last year and the singles earlier this year, it seems clear to me that the texture has changed. Nowadays the eyeshadows feel softer, but they are more powdery. I don’t think everybody experiences the same problem, but I tend to get quite some shimmer fallout with the non-matte shades. It is as if the shimmer were not properly bonded with the rest.
Beaugrenelle swatches fine, but it is a different story on my eyes. I couldn’t get most shades to show up much, so there isn’t a lot of intensity or gradient. I tried my best to pack the shades on, but this is all I could do:
Before you ask, I did use a primer. Much like Dior Smoky Design, I think it could look better on top of a base. On its own however, this is as far as it goes.
Here is how Guerlain Beaugrenelle Écrin 6 Couleurs looks in context:
I have Dior Avant-Garde Dior Addict Fluid Stick on my lips and Chanel Rose Initiale Joues Contraste on my cheeks. I was thinking about using a more nude blush, but figured the look would clash a little too much with my skin tone that way.
All in all, I think the lippies from Bloom of Rose are definitely going to be more worth your while. Beaugrenelle certainly looks the part, but you need to want nothing beyond a soft wash of color to appreciate it. My friend Linda seems to have a better time with this palette, so check out her review if you are interested!
